Amazing that someone has original fitting instructions! Thanks for everyone’s input again. There are two existing holes in the what I’m sure is the original headlining it’s where I tried to mount mirror with one of the screws out of the sun visor but could not get thread to start I’ll try some smaller self tappers and see what happens.

Thought that might have been the case mcl.
Still haven’t got screws to mount it !  I thought I would try one of the screws from the sun visor it fitted into the stork ok but the thread wouldn’t bite into whatever it connects to under  the hood lining.  Could I ask someone to take one of their mirror mounting screws out and see if they interchange with the Sunvisor if it does then I will try again with a bit more force.

No Vern haven’t got special tool for jets ! have never pulled carbies apart before apart from maybe trying to reset a float level years ago. If they go ok and don’t leak I’ll prob just leave them if not maybe I’ll have a fiddle if that doesn’t work Nigel at extreme will get a job. Ps all the linkage shafts seem to actuate nice and Evenly with no slop that I can detect

Thanks fcwrangler will try the acetone first no hurry so maybe a few applications might work can you still get new windscreens for them do you know ?  (Just in case)

Morning guys my Ute has a crappy after market stick on rear vision mirror have purchased a new no’s mounting bracket from one guy and a second hand mirror I think all I need now is the two course threaded chrome screws that secure the stalk to the roof. So if someone has two happy to purchase. Also any ideas on how to remove old mirror that’s been stuck onto windscreen. Also been chasing and old fashion weather shield with blue or red top section like old blue has on his beautiful Ute that is for sale. Any leads appreciated.

Thanks for feedback guys I live on the northern beaches but it sounds like Nigel from extreme is held in high regard and is the guy to see. Don’t know if carbies need rebuilding they were included in a complete engine I brought last year from one of the members in qld couldn’t drive car but we started it in the car and ran it for a few minutes.

Hello Again Guys
I brought a set of twin carbies  a while ago and want to fit them to the ute  ( bit more time these days) the manifold is an alloy Warnerford brand. Would like to clean up alloy manifold and Carbies before fitting had a look online and some people simply clean them up with carby cleaner and then spray paint them. Is this process acceptable or should I be thinking sand blasting manifold and electroplating carby and linkages. Recommendations appreciated.

Funny you mention the dash light!! My high beam light indicator has never worked if you look at the speedo picture I put up the small cylinder that projects forward has a little red lens cap which I accidentally knocked off ,I looked down the tube and I could see minute insects skeletons inside and on the other side the tube had a mud plug completely blocking the bulb end must have been a mud wasp lair. I cleaned it out put the bulbs back in when reassembling speedo and guess what the high beam red indicator works. So maybe just maybe it might be worth checking !!!

High Guys !! Put it back together last night and just taken it for a test run this arvo to the shops again. 
Happy to report speedo is all good ! thank you again for all your input, if it happens again I should get it done a lot quicker.

Thanks for the extra tip Fraze ! Funnily enough I woke up in the middle of the night with the same thought using the drill. I probably spent two hours last night working in Wd 40 and turning it by hand I can get to about 25 mph but will give the drill a go tonight. It took a while to get the little brass whelsh plug out needed a magnifying glass took out old wick which had gone hard at the shaft end soaked in wd 40 dried out and it’s nice and soft again ready for some sewing machine oil. There was a lot of black gunk that came out of the wick housing as I worked in the wd guess it was the old lubricant but it feels a lot better now.
Will look at your picks Vern bummer you can’t watch the lead wiping process would be fascinating.

Thank you so much for all the replies today. I have taken Robs advice and taken the speedo Out of the dash. The little brass part at the back of the speedo turned fairly evenly but I thought it needed more force than Robs description .
I had forgotten that I had a rare spares replacement speedo cable which I installed today  ( Put some sewing machine oil inside the sheaf as well) so tonight I will disassemble speedo a bit more and lubricate following Robs instructions.
Hey Vern you must be getting very close have you got some more pics of the car  you can post? Look forward to pics of air cleaner conversion.

Hello Everybody and happy Easter,
Took the ute to the shops yesterday to give it a run and on the way back a strange noise a bit like gears not meshing started I thought is it in gear properly? It was, and then I noticed the speedo needle fluctuating wildly from 0 to 100 so I thought the speedo cable drive is partially stripped ( have only taken them out from gearbox end when doing clutches and the like years ago) so question is what do you think ?  I thought maybe it could be a gear in the actual speedo gauge as well ? Haven’t looked at it yet but thought I would consult the “experts”on a diagnosis. ( and also best place To get whatever parts I need)

Thanks so much for all the info guys , all of the diffs I’ve seen advertised are course spline and I didn’t know that fine spline were so rare. Thought it might have been luck of the draw what you actually have installed from factory.
Thought I’d try a 3.36 ratio after reading some threads on the subject of diff ratios with quite a few agreeing that this is an ideal ratio.

Hi Guys and Girls
Thinking of changing diff centre to 3. 36 plenty of diffs for sale but not sure if I have a course spline or fine spline diff n axles! Is there any way to identify what I’m running without popping an axle out?
Also pretty sure a eh, hr, hd diff will bolt straight in without changing uni connections
Any advice appreciate.
