1  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Small chrome strips that run from taillight down to bumper on: June 09, 2018, 11:23:09 PM
Hi, I would like to ask your advice on obtaining a pair of the chrome strips that run down from the rear tail lights to the bumper on the FC special sedans.
1. how much are these things worth (a) in good condition and (b) if they need work and require rechroming etc.

Old Mable didn't come with these on her and its the only chrome she is missing. I wanted to get an idea of what they are worth before posting in parts wanted.

Regards Rod

Roybeth it was only the late 1959 model FC that was fitted with indicators and yellow indicator lenses, they were also fitted with paper air filters and a really nice embossing on the seats.

I was thrilled to meet RET on our club run. The day was absolutely awful and it pelted down rain all morning. You are more than welcome to check out old Mable at the Nationals and I look forward to finally putting names to faces. I am really looking forward to my first nationals. It was both a blessing and a pain that Mable's engine expired just before the Nationals. A blessing because she is now reliable and running like a sewing machine......but the process has severely dented the budget..... no dented isnt the word.....DECIMATED is more like it! On the club run I found out my brake lights had stopped working luckily just a new brake switch.

Thats interesting, I hadn't thought about it, it was black when I got it, my tin can Bosch coil was painted black too. Im not sure what colour it was originally. Starter and distributor are Bosch blue. Should they be black or grey??

Got a look at the new motor today and I'm so cranky. The only thing I asked the company was to not paint the engine in the EJ light grey. I wanted the FC dark grey......

Not much of a restoration if you cant even get the right colour on the engine. What kind of an imbecile would paint an FC engine in light grey?Huh
They never were light grey and should never be light grey unless you own an EJ. Looks like Ill be pulling the motor out and repainting it. Why dont people listen!!!! Rant done!

13  Technical Board / Restoration Help / FC Grey motor colour code on: December 27, 2017, 01:39:30 AM
I know this question has been asked many times but Id like to confirm if the following paint code is for the dark grey almost navy/black original colour and not the light grey that you see on every second restored motor. For me the light grey is not an acceptable colour and definitely not original. Ive seen so many beautifully restored cars with the wrong colour grey. It totally detracts from the build. I want to make sure this isnt the bodgy lighter grey

Dulux Autocolour

Holden Engine Grey GMH

If this isnt the original dark navy almost black grey then could someone please let me know what the colour code is?

My8thholden I think, if you read the above posts the 58 didnt have a black firewall. It was body colour, the skirts etc were black, In the late 59 the whole lot was black.

Fraze on the other hand, thats interesting. Ill be interested to see what some of the Guru's say.

Have you thought about one of these that fits under the dash? That way no holes and your radio still works.

Adjusted the float level quite savagely and that appears to have done the trick.

Thanks everyone for the input.

No the same carby thats been on it since I got it. Could then new pump be higher pressure? Just seems like too much fuel. Ill recheck the float level. Failing that Ill try another carby. Seems too much of a coincidence its only happened since I put a different fuel pump on.

Fitted a non vacum fuel pump today and it works well but Ive developed a problem, At idle the engine stalls and petrol runs out of the shaft area of the carby. Ive checked the needle and seat, all good. Checked the float level, all good. Anyone got any ideas?Huh

Great question Ken, top right of the entry form has a spot for entrants to advise us which club they are with, entitled Club. I am of the opinion that if the club nominated is not a member of the associated clubs then they will be contacted by the organisers. Likewise if no club is nominated they will be contacted by the organisers.

I hope I have that right and I got what you were asking.
