21  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: NASCO door mirror on: February 03, 2022, 09:10:43 AM
Thanks fellas,

Those ones pictured are what I have I think, can anyone confirm that the same mirror and stork was used from FE through to EJ - EH maybe??

22  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Original washer jet - anyone have a spare?? on: February 02, 2022, 03:23:19 PM
G'day,

No response to my request so yes they are pretty much impossible to find. I have a few of the wiper pivot bases and they appear to be cracked through where the jet screw in, common problem??

G'day,

Can someone post a picture of the original door mirror available through NASCO for an FE please and if the same mirror and stork was used through to EJ or EH (not sure there). Thanks, Al
24  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Original washer jet - anyone have a spare?? on: December 22, 2021, 10:30:39 AM
G'day, this is a popular subject judging by all the older posts on washer jets. I will settle for the alternative (Rover jets) if I cant find another original one. Anyone have one original washer jet to match the one I have in the pic they would be willing to let go? I don't need the base, just one more jet, thanks Al

That is the very photo that gave me the inspiration Ken, it is hanging on the wall of my workshop, love it! Al

G'day Graham,

I have gone for Frankston Cream as the main body colour and the dash colour is as close as I can get to the Fall Red / Parchment Ivory interior combo. The car was originally Sky Grey - Granite Grey roof with grey interior. It was a tough decision to change from factory colour as I am a real purist with the restoration but didn't want a grey car and a mate said to me one day that if you are going to put all this time and money into it, it should be something that you really like so that is the way I have gone, good advice. I have a Detroit kit to put on it and will do the flash in Etna Maroon which will look sweet.

G'day,

A bit of progress over the last couple of months. Doing things a bit in reverse as enjoying getting the engine bay and dash area sorted but really need to get into some panel work and get the doors and guards back where they should be.

Right oh, that explains it for me. Thanks Ken, very interesting. Al
29  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: Paint code for Fall red interior on: October 21, 2021, 09:14:35 AM
Yes, I would like a code for the red paint that would have been used for dash and tops of doors etc. It seems to be a really bright fire engine red and the Fall Red seat material is more of a darker blood red. Al
30  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Paint code for Fall red interior on: October 20, 2021, 10:42:09 AM
G'day everyone,

I have done a search on this but cant come up with a paint code for the red interior paint for FE with Fall Red / Parchment Ivory interior combination. Anyone help me out here? My car was originally Cobweb grey / Parchment Ivory but am going red instead so nothing to match it with. Thanks, Al
31  General / General Board / GMH production line on: October 20, 2021, 09:47:54 AM
G'day,

While trawling through info on the net researching various things for my FE restoration I came across an FE that was for sale on Grays Online a few months ago, build number 2241M, mine is 2236M. Both are exactly the same colour and interior trim combinations which leads me to the question of how cars were produced on the line back in the day. Did they batch build cars in the same colours to make life easier in the paint shop? And a related question regarding order of assembly, I assume the bodies were painted as as one unit with guards, doors, bonnet and boot fitted to the car? Currently contemplating this as I start bolting things onto my car; is it better to paint each panel off the car and bolt on or have everything on the car (with door jams, interiors etc already painted) and paint in one shot as I assume they did in the factory.

Awesome, thanks fellas. I reckon I will go for stone guard then which will be a slight departure from original but sounds like the way to go. Al
33  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Inside of front guard coating on: September 14, 2021, 11:41:08 AM
G'day again,

I have done a quick search and nothing came up re: what was the factory finish inside the front guards; painted body colour, body deadener or chassis black?? Thanks, Al
34  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: Accessory boot light on: September 09, 2021, 09:39:02 AM
Thanks Alex, that is the photo I needed to see. I assume that is original fitment from 1956?? Al
35  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: Accessory boot light on: September 08, 2021, 03:43:22 PM
Great, thanks for your responses. I have a copy of the fitment instructions but would like a photo of the lamp location of an original setup if someone has one fitted. Al

G'day everyone,

A fair bit of progress since my last post. A bit of a milestone over the weekend with front end and diff back where they should be with a few other bits going on where I can. Will start on the hanging panels now and get a bit of sheet metal back in place.

37  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Accessory boot light on: September 08, 2021, 09:51:19 AM
G'day,

Could someone post up some pics of the original boot light fitment in an FE. I have a repro kit to install but cant make sense of the instructions on where the light fitting goes exactly. Car is an early FE without the wheel arch to panel reinforcement which is maybe where the light fitting is supposed to to be mounted? Thanks Al
38  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: FE boot hinge springs on: July 28, 2021, 01:17:10 PM
Great, I think that sorts it out, I will put it back together as found. thanks again fellas. Al
39  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: FE boot hinge springs on: July 28, 2021, 11:11:53 AM
Right oh, thanks fellas. So it is original with one narrow and one wider spring? Al
40  Technical Board / Restoration Help / FE boot hinge springs on: July 28, 2021, 09:12:38 AM
G'day,

On the FE I am restoring the boot springs are different on both sides, one is wider/heavier than the other. It is an early build but seems to be different to my other wreck which is has the same springs either side. Are the two different springs factory or has it been messed with? thanks Al
