21  General / General Board / Re: Fc panelvan on: April 07, 2015, 08:24:01 PM
I have been trying to get the photos of my phone to my iPad with no luck , I can get them onto my laptop but really want them on the iPad as I can upload photos from that easier than the laptop hence why I need help.
Or else I will just go and drink some rums instead.

25  Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: Steering on: March 16, 2015, 07:59:28 PM
Hey Harv and Haydn years ago I used to do steering conversions regularly on fx and fj holdens and I designed a mounting bracket to take a hk,t,g steering box with colapsible column it also needed a spacer on the idler arm to stop any bump steer, this worked so good that I could fit red motors and chevs with no problem, so I can't see why it would be any different to fit a v6 its almost the same configuration and size as a chev.
Although You could get a sump to fit from a HK because they came out with a chev and I knew they cleared the trailing arm, the red however was different and from memory we used eh sumps.
I know that whatever you do the sump has to be modified regardless so that's not the issue, I'm just unsure why a steering box can't be used in place of a steering rack and still use the collapsible column for engineering reasons, just trying to get some educated thoughts on all this because the effort would be so much easier if a steering box was allowed.
Cheers frankie.

I know it has been said before but what is the issue with using a steering box from maybe a hk,t,g on a hr front end ( which was a common conversion back in the 90's) for a v6 conversion, the steering rack has issues as is well documented and I know from experience that a steering box works, is it the engineers that has the problem or is it the fact that everyone wants a rack and pinion, for gods sake they used the steering box with a v8 around Bathurst it can't be that bad putting it on the road for normal driving use, can anyone shed some light on the stigma going around about the rack versus the steering box.

Cheers frankie.

Yeah Haydn good advise and I used to do the same in the 90's on the fj's it works well and something you don't have to worry about later.

Yeah Deano how cool are they
30  Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: Air conditioning on: March 05, 2015, 09:36:12 PM
Hey there Haydn, did you see the unit I purchased it has four outlets I want to run the two middle ones to the screen vents and the outer two I am putting custom outlets on the face of the dash on the outside of both sides if that makes sense, so the grille in the dash will be just for looks and the unit will fit in behind it if I move the firewall out, and Deano I don't have a swager but I do plane on making it look like it was always there.
Don't know if I cleared much up there because the runs have set in on thirsty Thursday lol.
Frankie.

Hey Haydn I,posted some pics of my new air con heater unit in my air con thread have you checked it out yet and if so what do you think cheers Frankie.
33  Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: Air conditioning on: March 04, 2015, 08:26:30 PM
Yes Deano the cowl has gone and my whole plenum has changed and flattening of the firewall I think has merit, and it's a swaging tool to make the line your talking about which are mainly used to stop vibration and to look good as well lol.

Hey there Haydn thanks mate for all that info but the wiper was never the issue or maybe the rum was talking haha who knows, but like I said I got the wiper sorted I just wanted info on if I could move the top of the firewall to make more room for my air con, I recieved it today and I will post some photos stay tuned.
37  Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: Firewall on: March 03, 2015, 07:33:41 AM
Hey NES my original question was were the old wiper motor sits and the area that it came from, it's the section of firewall I'm asking about and if I bring it forward into the engine bay will it foul with the motor or not, and if I can do this it will give me room under the dash for the air con unit, as soon as it arrives I will post a pic to make it easier to try and get what I'm trying to say cheers Frankie.
38  Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: Firewall on: March 02, 2015, 10:00:15 PM
Are you guys saying plenty of room for the air con unit or motor, the air con has four front outlets I will post a pic when it arrives, it is also a heater so I need the space to route the hose out of the front, it's not an underdash  type so space is limited.
39  Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: Firewall on: March 02, 2015, 08:44:23 PM
Wow great info guys and much aprreciated, but the firewall mod I'm asking about is just the section were the wiper is mounted mainly so I can get my air con unit in a lot easier, or if this is not an option then maybe cut the dash and move it forward, this is all about the aircon the rest I will deal with as I go but my unit will arrive this week and I know it's 325mm deep which is not enough under the dash but if I can get me another 100mm I will be happy. And your right about my wiper Haydn it does work on a cable which is really simple to mount and in fact it will mount behind the glovebox so that's not an issue.
Thanks again the info is priceless.
Frankie.
