For Sale and Wanted / Other Stuff For Sale / HX Monaro.....outside the square
|
on: June 04, 2017, 06:29:31 PM
|
This is a question unrelated to this site but someone out there may be able to help, my uncle has a HX 4 door Monaro factory four speed, 308 factory air, black in colour and all chrome work is black as well he said it came like that from the dealer as a demo, it has been parked for 20 years just after he had the frontend fully rebuilt lol. It is original paint and the only rust is on the plenum left hand side, this is a major barn find but owned by my uncle, he has asked me to value the car as he wants to sell it because it is just taking up space now and he won't ever do anything with it, any help would be appreciated on the value of this car thanks in advance frankiej.

|
on: April 21, 2017, 06:52:31 PM
|
Just after some help on painting my two tone on my FB Holden, I am painting it cream with a burgundy insert were the chrome is on the sides but I'm unsure of how the door jambs are finished, does the paint follow through the jamb or do you just pick one of the colours and go with that, I'm very confused but want it to loo, right so any help would be appreciated cheers frankiej.

Hey there JB I'm about to do a similar floor conversion in an FJ Holden ute and I noticed yours already had good inner sills, mine needs the inners and outers replaced and I can't work out wether or not I should do that first before attempting the floor fitment, what are your thoughts cheers Frankie.

Hey there Frankie back again but with a new project, it's a FJ Holden ute and it's what I have wanted to build for a long time this is my seventh ute but the first that I plan on finishing, fairly similar to what I was going to do on the FE with a v6 transplant, I have a vs comodore donor car and have purchased hq stub axles with vn brakes on a hr front end, so will keep everyone posted and see how it pans out cheers Frankie.

For Sale and Wanted / Cars For Sale / Fe sedan
|
on: October 08, 2015, 08:16:38 PM

Looking for expressions of interest in my FE sedan, does not have engine or gearbox but is a roller on original diff and front end, it is complete other than the seats and running gear all the glass is there and all windows and doors operate perfectly. I have loads of chrome as in fe and FC body moulds and good bumpers, the car has a really good floor and rust in the regular spots but not overly bad, I have a new pair of outer sills and also two new half door skins for two of the doors the other two are rust free, I have a VK fuel tank ready to fit and have grafted in a VS commodore rear seat and boot struts. I am a panel beater by trade and I think this is a fantastic body to work on as far as projects go, I need to sell it as I have just bought an FJ ute which I have wanted for a long time now. I am wanting serious offers over $1,500 as I believe it is well work this, the car has also had a lot of the hang ons sandblasted and primed and lots of small parts have been done as well. I am sad to see it go but I have to go with my heart and restore the FJ as I can't do both cars I hope someone out there would love to have a look and maybe buy it thanks frankie. 0488318160

Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: HK Holden Steering box
|
on: September 09, 2015, 08:50:44 PM

Hey job it was a popular conversion on the FJ in the 90's and what I found was that the same amount that you offset the steering box from the chassis then you also had to offset the idler arm the same amount otherwise you got bump steer, I ,hope that helps a little cheers frankiej.

Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: Stripped panels waiting for paint

Wow Deano amazing knowledge you have and mostly very good info, the clear over base coat you talked about is in fact a blending clear and that's used for blending metallics, it's used just before your last coat of colour and can be a bit tricky if you don't know what's your doing. When it comes to fillers I generally like to rough up the area to be filled with a 24 grit on a disc sander then fill to the metal, I get The shape close then 2k prime it and follow up with my finishing filler work over the top of the primer, bare metal should be etched if your not doing much with it straight away because of the fact you spoke about being porous and whether conditions come into it as well, and very important to use wax and grease remover every time you paint. There are way to many factors to take into account and can be very daunting for the home handyman come painter because of all the factors that come into play. I personally wouldn't use acrylic paint anymore even though I done my apprenticeship on that system, the 2pac paints are brilliant these days and even for doing them in your shed at home when conditions are suitable, acrylic paint needs lots of drying time to make it successful because it uses evaporation to dry rather than chemical reactions, the acrylic requires around 4 weeks of drying time before being buffed then the same time again before you polish as the polish will seal the surface and the thinners won't escape, this is the downfall on most acrylic paint jobs as they are not given the correct drying time, and keep in mind that every part of the acrylic needs to be buffed to give it a shine, were 2pac has a shine of the gun, so in the shed you will find that the tops of the car will be the only areas that need buffing due to dust settling, and if the sides come up well then no need to buff as it has a gloss already. I hope some of this stuff helps as I have been in the trade now for 37 years and I am happy to give advise as I know we all can't afford to just pay the trady to make our dream a reality. Cheers Frankiej.

So Nes are you saying if I was to bring the centre section of my firewall out to meet the rest of the firewall it wouldn't be an issue with the fit, as I'm looking for more space under the dash, it's a modified fe anyway so may even make a new firewall yet not sure. Frankie.
