Technical Board / General Technical / Engine Rebuild
|
on: October 29, 2014, 07:42:04 AM
|
I am planning to rebuild the original (92,000 mile) engine in my '58 FC. Being a "newbie" I need a bit of info. 1. Where (in Melbourne) is a good source of parts such as pistons, rings, bearings, valves, oil pump etc? 2. Is it usual to replace the cam bearings on these engines? Advice greatly appreciated! Thanks, Frazer.

For Sale and Wanted / Auction and Trade Links / Re: Holden 1958 fc AU $13,500.00

I think that is the car which was for sale by a dealer in Tullamarine (near Westmeadows) for about $19,500.00 early this year. If it is the same car it looks ok in the photos but actually is rough as guts, looks like the paint was slopped on by a broom. I went to look at it and an FC station Wagon which he also had which was also pretty rough.

Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Fueling dramas

With those flexible fuel hoses, you can get a situation where the plys of rubber separate and the hose can collapse internally whilst looking ok from the outside, and this can occur intermittently. Now don't bother to ask how I know........Fraze

Problem solved - I used some vacuum cleaner hose which I picked up during a hard rubbish collection in my area! Works fine, very flexible and light, and pretty much the right size. Cheers, Frazer

A while back there was a thread relating to demister flexible tube (duct) which I now cannot find. My question is did anyone find a source for this? - need 32mm (1 1/4" inch) to suit the dash top outlets on my FC.

The black plastic trims on the front seat of my FC are cracked and have bits missing. Is there a source for replacements? Thanks, Frazer (PS, I don't mean the black panel across the top of the seat)

That's great! Now how do I get in touch with Ed? Also I don't know the brand of heater I have but it doesn't matter, once I get the under dash vents I can make the rest. SO! just need a contact number for ED.

Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Where to buy seat belts.

All done. Bought a very nice set of lap sash front and lap only rear for the FC. I got them from AUTOLUXE in East Malvern, Vic. The webbing is a good match for the seat colour and they have Nasco buckles. I fitted them in a couple of hours - all happy now and I would recommend Autoluxe, very helpful and easy to deal with, Fraze

I have come across a company called Autoluxe who have seat belts for classic cars, they had a stand at the recent Holden Street Car Show at Dandenong. They are in Malvern East, Vic. Has anyone had dealings with them? Thanks, Fraze

Thanks for your info Ken. Fitting belts is not a problem for me, I guess I am too lazy to research the subject and was hoping someone had come up with a kit to suit. Unfortunately I wont be able to make the club meeting as I will be interstate then, Fraze PS Thanks for the replies from WA but that is a long way from Melbourne

I have just purchased an FC Sedan and it doesn't have seat belts. I would prefer inertia reel type for the front and lap only for the back. Can anybody point me to a source in Melbourne? (that is someone with FC experience) Thanks, Fraze.
