1341  For Sale and Wanted / Parts Wanted / 2 x FC door pull handles on: September 20, 2013, 04:25:16 PM
Hoping someone has a couple of spare handles they are prepared to sell.
The section is a square C shape with Lenlock 20 marked on the inside.
They have only 1 hole at each end.
Happy to buy a full set if no spares are available.
Dave.

1342  General / General Board / Exhaust supplier - recommended on: September 17, 2013, 12:15:02 PM
It's been many years since I've needed to buy exhaust parts for an FC Holden so I did the usual ring around. I ended up ordering SS headers and a muffler/tailpipe from Hi-Tech in Melbourne. The goods arrived today & I though I'd just give Hi-Tech a plug here. I found their service second to none. Duane is very obliging & offers competitive prices. Turnaround was 1 week & the whole deal was as smooth as you can get. Dave.

An NRMA film clip on the organisation's history says Holden panel vans were first introduced into the fleet in 1963. Could be the reason why a photo of earlier vans is so hard to find. I have however seen the van that was previously used in the small country town I come from, and I recall it being used. That doesn't sound right I know. Can only think that the local Holden dealer did his own thing in providing the vehicle for the area service. I'll ask some of the locals for more info but it appears there were no FE/FC vans fitted out (officially) as NRMA fleet vehicles. The NRMA clip is at http://www.mynrma.com.au/about/history.htm.

Will try the locals from the small country town I came from for any shots of the NRMA van. It ran for many years so chances are someone will have one.

Thanks for the tips on mudflap & brackets. I'll give Sam a call tomorrow.

Gaz,
It does sound good when you put it that way. I see other discussions all include the same positive comments that you & Ken make on the quality too.
The breakdown from OBSOLETE today -
Front $280
Back $280
Boot $300
Mud flaps $100/pr (front or back)
P&P $50.
Deposit $100 & COD for the balance when shipped.
Lead time was expected to be more than 6-8 weeks this time.
I think he said the mud flaps extend the timeframe until orders are sufficient for a run.
Thanks, Dave.

Thanks Gaz. Sounds like the same quality product from the same place, as Ken suggested. I'll call ALLCARCARPETS on Monday. OBSOLETE quote this morning totalled $1110 for front, rear, boot, 4 mud flaps & P&P. Lead time would be a little more than normal just now but that's not an issue for me at the moment. Dave.

Looks the part alright. I'm about to order the same so comparing with several outlets. Any views on ALLCARCARPETS vs OBSOLETE RUBBER MATS appreciated - I can't get to the outlets to view the actual products. The cost differs but that isn't always the deciding factor. Both look good in the photos but are they similar compositions & fit? Not sure also about the underlay. Any advice? Dave.

Looking through the posts I remembered that the NRMA used these van also in NSW.
Perhaps another option for the collection?

1351  Technical Board / Restoration Help / FC Battery leads on: September 13, 2013, 12:13:40 PM
Searching through many adds for old Holden parts I see a wide variety of cable sizes & lengths with an even wider range of lugs used. I'd like to make up both leads to match the original cross section & length with original looking lugs, then post them to where the motor is being reassembled.
If anyone can help with a description of the original battery cables on a 59 special I would be grateful.
Dave.
