You're not bad on the welder either. Skilled use of shop equipment by an experienced tradesman on display here.

Thanks RET for the link & the clarity. Have met a few from the local club but it'll be mid/late next year before I have a car ready to actively participate.

Thanks you very much for the detail. I did see one similar to your AWA on eBay but there is no chrome fascia plate with it.
I expect finding a fascia that suits the FE FC speaker grill could be the real challenge.

Thanks Alex. I see the subtle differences (spring speed adjustment window & the other things David picked up).
The title description on eBay could just be an honest mistake I guess, but I think I'd rather spend the money on the right one now that I know the difference.
1307  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Standard FC radio? on: November 15, 2013, 10:44:47 AM
Wondering if anyone has a description/photo of the radio they know was (or could have been) original.
There's a vast range on sale out there with claims of being typical FE FC.
From what I read the old basic AWA 6 (transistor) was probably a very common unit installed in the 58-59 Sydney builds.
I would like to use an authentic radio case & fascia at least - and perhaps replace the circuitry with with component capable of receiving today's range of transmissions.
Any comments or tips from experience would be most welcome.

Authentic FE/FC or English/Other?
Looks good.

Mark,
A serious & thorough effort.
Good to follow your progress.
1310  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Quarter vent window locks on: November 12, 2013, 10:38:38 PM
I've seen a version of the lock button fitted with a small bolt with a knurled head. It looked good & worked very well as long as you avoided damaging the spring.
The next most common method of opening a car with the keys locked in the ignition was practiced by the NRMA (and many others) - a piece of hooked fencing wire or flat steel poked down the window rubber and pull the door lock button up. It was so simple & fast that most people could break into their own cars without needing to call the NRMA.
Where I come from many still leave their cars unlocked & the keys in the ignition when they shop. Yet, at the end of the last drought they only found two cars in a local dam that hadn't been dry in more than 20 years.

What an accomplishment! Makes you just keep looking & admiring. Must be the pride of the family.

I went to a local fastener shop and purchased some stainless bolts to attach my bumpers, not original and a little bit of work involved but worth it in my opinion. Depending on the brand you might have file off some letters/numbers, then it's just a few minutes on the bench grinder with a polishing wheel.

Thanks Stinky. I think I'll probably end up doing just that. There's a good specialty fastener shop here. Just need the size & they can match them.

Hope someone out there may be able to help with a couple of things that have walked out of the shed when I wasn't looking.
1 small vertical mould under tail light. Happy to buy a pair.
2 bumper bolts that fix wrap around ends to back quarter panels.

Post to Canberra.

Dave.

Looking fwd to their reply. Could be a case of insufficient quantity to cover the cost these days.
I see some other current models available that could be on a few FC doors.
