The wiper knob has a little slotted grub screw at the back of the knob just before where the shaft is visible that holds it onto the shaft. You can remove the whole knob and shaft from the light switch by holding down a spring-loaded button on the light switch behind the dash, but not sure about how to remove the knob from the shaft. And yet another year between posts. Have spent more time on the trucks than the FC. I'll be replacing the FC firewall and front cowl soon. The current firewall is well outa shape. Have had no end of trouble matching the subframe back to the car. Soon I'll start to fit up up a replacement inner LHS sill section. Once that job starts I'll put up pics. Have also been collecting little bits and pieces to help finish it off. Pretty well sorted for parts now. Soon I'll start to sell off some of my spares too, to make space. These days with the interweb it's easier to track down parts than it used to be, so I don't think I have to stock up on bits for use in an accident I might not have in a car that's not on the road yet! Will try not to leave it another year before having something to show. It feels like I haven't been a forum member long, but I'm now starting to see cars finished that were started whilst i was a member. Gotta put the pedal down and get some action on mine! Gotta say, the quality of work I see on other cars on this forum is nothing short of amazing., There are some talented people out there. Regards, Martyn

Well, it's been a long time between drinks. Long story short, the big truck is now running, with an electric fuel pump. Couldn't get vacuum after rebuilding the original. Apparently it's a known issue with them. Can't believe how well it runs considering I haven't touched the carb after it sat for 30 years. Brakes have been fully rebuilt, just haven't been bled yet. Moved the truck a few feet in the shed backwards and forwards under its own power just to check clutch and gearbox. Both seem OK at first glance so hopefully no rebuilds will be involved. It sounds great. The exhaust is a section of trampoline frame that I got from the local tip with the holes welded up, and no muffler, which will do fine in the workshop until I get a proper system. I now have the little truck in my garage at home. Long story but lost the storage where it was being kept. It's gonna go to another farm shed for temporary storage when I bring the big one home to finish off and register. I'll have some fun with the big one then I'll have to sell it due to my garage only stretching so far! The little one is then going on an HQ chassis with a late model V8. Haven't posted pics as there hasn't been much visible change to show. The FC is also coming along slowly. Will put a quick update on its build thread. Regards, Martyn

That's some stunning artwork. You're very talented. You could make a living putting fake patina on vehicles! Do you have any others to share? Martyn

Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: thermo fan size

Hi Freddy,
I had an FE with a 192 and a triple cored original radiator with a Davies Craig electric fan. Can't recall the exact specs but the shroud was the width of the radiator. The fan had a thermo switch and didn't need to run most of the time. I had a green LED on the dash to show me when it was running. It'd usually kick in at the lights after an extended stop but it'd flick off shortly after moving away. The only time i had a cooling concern was in an extremely hot day out at Parkes where it got quite hot but still didn't boil. Different size motor I know but maybe that might help a bit. Regards, Martyn

Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: Alternator installation

Hi Wasim, these are pretty rough drawings I did about 25 years ago. Looks like I had 2 different types of alternators. No doubt some here will be able to make sense of what I did. I had no idea but they worked! Now that I look at them they seem less about a conversion than just a setup for red motor electrics. Not really sure if this will help but better i put them up and let you decide. Regards, Martyn

Hi Wasim,
I have a primitive drawing that I could jazz up a bit showing all connections. I'm no electrician so the drawing is pretty basic and designed so I could follow it years later! I'll track it down and get back to you. I can recall it's for an external regulator setup.
Regards,
Martyn

Hi Cam, welcome to the forum. Nice to see someone else planning a red motor build. They're few and far between these days! My FC had an EH diff when purchased. My engineer asked for it to be changed to HR for greater axle strength, which I did. I'm going Aussie 4 speed. At the rate I'm going on my build you'll probably overtake me. I have an old truck with a bakelite light switch that acts as my ignition switch. Where are you based? Regards, Martyn See it in the middle of the dash here:
