5  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: underbody paint on: June 16, 2021, 07:38:26 PM
Thanks Ken

I guess that answer was coming my way, I just needed confirmation. A couple of years ago I saw a FC Sedan that was original with a second owner that has not been touched, when i had a look underneath it had a heavy coating of a tar based sound deadening paint which looked fantastic. He said that GMH did that on many FC's. I think it was a after market job not by GMH, but was not in a position to dispute.

Just wanted to make sure as it did look good.

6  Technical Board / Restoration Help / underbody paint on: June 16, 2021, 08:24:16 AM
Hi All
I have a FC Wagon that i have neglected for a couple of years due to personal reasons and now want to get back and finish the project while I can. There is zero rust anywhere on the body now and panels are straight as. So it's put back together time. As I am learning as I go there will be a lot of questions for experts out there.
Firstly what is the standard and best to spray underbody, differential and front end to keep it as stock as possible.

Thank you in advance

P.S I am looking for front and rear seats if anybody has to sell ( black and Red ) I live in central NSW

Hi Ret
I am away at the moment and will be back home on Tuesday and will bring the spare manual out again and work through your explanation.
2x things here 1. I feel so much better on why I could not understand how to use the manual
2. if I can get a hang of it, it will be yet another reference tool to make my joy of restoration easier.
Thanks for the time and effort to go to the trouble of your explanation for me and any other person out there like me that did not know

Happy Easter to you and family and to all members of a very informative and helpful club

Yes this is the book I have, I thought it was me that was not smart enough and missing something here. But it must have been used somewhere at the time of no computers to just punch in a item number etc. you need info on
Must be someone out there that knows?

Yes it is the 20 year one 758 pages long which I have trouble using with so many models in it.
I saw one on Ebay with just FX - FC spare parts cat. which I thought is the one I need but it was a book not CD for $250 plus postage

Thanks for all your comments and help, it would seem that the FE FC only spare parts CD would be a big step in the right direction. Has anyone got a link to Ebay for this CD.
That would be very much appreciated

Hi All
After a 2 year forced lay off I am now well enough to get back into the rebuild ( as long as my doc doesn't find out  Grin ). Problem is memory is not as good as it used to be, I took 100s of pics etc as I was dismantling and repairing and put all parts in separate containers and identified by marking each container. The question is what will make my task ahead easier and if I come across a problem being small or large what is best to refer to, I have tried searching all the fine articles in the forum but it takes for ever to get to what I want.
Hope this all makes sense for eg I want to refit the front body ass, front end a diff as starters
I have the early model Holden spare parts manual 700 + pages but how do you use it ?

I went to the nationals on Saturday at the Hall Showground, some great cars there, made me want to get back into my restoration. 113 entrees so good to see
Does anybody know the results of the entrants picks and awards ?
My camera failed to work while I was there so apart from the great pics I have seen up to date, hope more are upcoming

18  General / General Board / Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all on: December 21, 2016, 06:53:13 AM
Had a great year, did not achieve my target where I would be at this time of the year, over budget a few gauges here and there. But did I enjoy myself working on the FC wagon ? , you bet I did and look forward to next year where I will probably say the same thing around this time.
Thanks for the great read from all out there, I have learned heaps from you
Great club

Have a holy and safe Christmas and enjoy with your family

Cannot wait to see all the grand kids

Hi all
I could not be happier to see pics made easier to get to, as a gallery, they do not have to be sorted into categories. I asked for this many months ago. when I am refitting a part or want to see how someone else restored a part or section looking at the photos would be so helpful, to find one  now you have to look at what forum / describe request / scan through numerous pages / etc etc.
I do scan through social media but I always end up checking out the forum for help or answers.
I do think that there are to many categories  how many of us start searching for an answer or problem which has been addressed many times before only to give up and ask the question on open forum again.
Otherwise I read the articles daily and enjoy it
20  General / General Board / Re: how much? on: April 30, 2016, 07:14:08 AM
i see it this way:-
If your aim is
Concourse show car  Big big $$$$$$$$$
Back to original 100% restore with good starting base car around $20k you do most work yourself.
rusty poor starting base FC big $$$$$$$$$$
Mine is a good starting FC nearly zero rust and complete, expecting to spend about $10 to $15k, and 100% rebuild to original. ( not show car)
But what is missing in this discussion so far is what price do we put on, new knowledge, having a go, satisfaction, meeting fellow FC restorers, the fun of the chase for missing parts, new challenges, great people, the enjoyment of seeing something coming back to its original glory etc. My wife who is very supportive sees the change in me ( relaxed) when I can spend a full day or two down the shed, we share the achievements together.
If you could put a price on that, then deduct that of your build and I would say that's a FREEBEE
