Slim,
Couple of pics to show you the size difference.
The body of the VH40 is ~225mm diameter while the VH44 (the black one)  is ~180mm diameter.

VH44 installed in my FC + old VH40 above

Well..... I didn't pay retail due to family connections  Wink but I believe they are worth ~ $470. Brake Parts Australia still make them - check their web site for contact details: http://www.bpa.com.au/

Another post suggests a price for a new VH40:

Slim,
The VH44 is noticably smaller than the VH40.
They should also have a small I.D. label stating type & Serial No which is on the same side as the hydraulic cylinder.
The VH44 is actually designed for drum brakes and the VH40 is for discs.

Nige,
I expect Ken will be able to give you a definitive answer.
From what I can remember, I swapped the Fins and Grill/Front Indicators from the FC wreck onto the FE.

Added a few other bits like electric wipers and a brake booster. Also remember something about fitting HD holden drum Brakes on front and the many gearbox and diff rebuilds from too many revs and too quick on the clutch!

The "new" one will get due care once it gets back on the road. Smiley

This is the car that started my passion for FC's back in 1972. Bit of a mongrel, built from an FE & FC put together - both were on the way to the tip. Only kept it for a couple of years then traded up to an EH.  Sad

Took me 30 years to get back to another butI'm working on my "new" one. Hope to have it on the road soon! Grin

Hi Mark,
The VH40 unit is more powerful and designed to run with disc brakes - the diaphragm is significantly larger. The VH44 is designed for drum brakes.

These units are still manufactured by a company called Brake Parts Australia so they may be able to provide more info - below is details from my earlier post that may be helpful.

Dave,
A company in Melbourne Brake Parts Australia who should be able to help you with a new one. Try their web site: http://www.bpa.com.au

Another option is a wreckers in Melbourne who recently had reco'd VH40 for sale at $150 - call them on 03 9310 9044.

Yet another option is a crowd called Hydroboost who sell reco'd VH40's for $195 ($145 with C/O) call them on 03 9390 4811

I have a VH40 spare that available but it needs a full set of rubbers including the diaphram. If you are interested I am looking for $70 + postage (what I paid for it) I am in Melbourne. PM me if you want to take it further.

Sarge,
I have the fins off my FC at the moment due to a respray. I have some digital pics of the hole locations with a tape beside. You should be able to use these to accurately position the fin mounting holes.

PM me your email & i'll send them to you.

270  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Advice on replacing FC Sedan rear floor pans on: February 05, 2004, 09:39:16 AM
The body looks fine but the floor has holes...
I've worked my way around the body of my FC sedan, replacing the rust with real steel using an oxy welder and patience.  I now have to deal with the holes in the rear floor pans. My plan is to purchase replacements from Rare Spares and weld them in. Any advice from those who have done similar?

Thanks,
Trevor B
