Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Diff width

Hi Lucky I've narrowed a couple of diffs and I found that the best way (unfortunately as you can't access yours) is to have access to the vehicle, what I do is place the wheels/rims, spaced correctly in the wheel wells and then measure between the centre of the rims where the axles bolt to this will give you correct length you need to make the diff. Commodore diffs have 1long and 1 short axle so you need to maintain that offset to keep the tail shaft pinion in the centre of the tunnel. Commodore axles are thicker after the spline and not hardened so can shortened and resplined if you know of a workshop that can do it. Neil

Hi Guru; Those pieces are very common to rust out and are available from Rare Spares. I find it a pain to post photos on here so PM me an email address or mobile phone number and I will send you the photo from the manual of the chassis/floor bracing from the manual. Neil

Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Need Help: Self Park on 2 speed wipers with a VT Comm stalk
|
on: January 19, 2021, 11:23:49 AM

Hi Jason; Not sure if I can be of assistance but I have a VT steering column in my EK Ute and use a VP commodore wiper motor, I don't have intermittent as I'm not using the body module (BCM), the wipers do park when turned off however admittedly not at the bottom of the screen which I have to try to sort out. I don't remember off the top of my head which wires went where but I will look at my notes and see if I wrote it down if you like and see if I can shed some light on it for you.
By the way what motor id the CRS one and are they not able to assist?? Regards Neil

Hi Rio As far as I know you shouldn't have a problem, the car is on full rego and has a QLD modification plate (the blue one on the fire wall) which means it went through some sort of engineering inspection, you would need to make sure you had all associated paperwork and would probably need to have it inspected in your state but if it has been done properly this should be just a formality. Hi RIO, please don't take this the wrong way but in my humble opinion you just need to jump in, take the chance and make the purchase mate; it seems like the more you wait to try to find the perfect car for your budget you have missed out on a couple of cars. After 60 odd years mate it is almost impossible to find one that isn't going to need some love.
Good luck and I hope we hear that you have made a purchase soon.
Kindest Regards Neil

Hey Mal Fantastic work as always mate, looks like the Ute was in pretty good shape even though you had to take the whole floor out; the bottom of the 'A' pillars and the inner sills all look really good. I like the fact that you kept the seam between the 'B' pillar and the wheel arch and the outer sill, you can always tell when this area has been repaired as most just weld up and lose the seam. I did the same with my EK Ute and made sure the seam stayed. The 'D' bar for your steering seems pretty close to the head mate are you going to have enough clearnace for engine rock under acceleration I wonder?? As I said before great work and this is going to be a great looking Ute Mal.
