Pete, I belive both sides are the same, you should have the large(primary) liner at the front and the small (secondary) at the rear. You may want to check the spring tention to make sure it is pulling the shoes back properly. Regards Jim

Technical Board / Restoration Help / Correct paint colour
|
on: October 12, 2011, 08:31:58 PM
|
Hi all, I need to know if someone out there can help me with the correct colour for granite grey? Ihave stripped the car down and have noticed there seams to be a difference in shades of the grey, on the inner edge of the front doors where the dash meets the a pillar, the small tab that holds the windlace down is a darker shade than the dash and the rest of the car. Also while stripping the gard and glovebox lid I have come across the same darker grey. So wich is correct the lighter grey that the car has been resprayed with or the darker grey. clarification would be great so I can paint the car the correct colour. Regards Jim

Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: RUBBERS

Stinky,I belive that most if not all repo rubbers that rares sell are from a company called Pongpara Codan Rubber co. in Thailand. I also belive the rubbers that spectrum sell are the same as most of the time they come in a rare spares platic bag. I have been a windscreen fitter for over 35 years and all jobs that I have done for customers that supply rubbers come from the above suppliers. I have done a few jobs with rubbers from Bill Thompson in Qld. but not sure where they source theirs from. Regards Jim

Progress report;I have the car all stripped out and have taken the body back to bare metal, roof & rear quaters are in real good nick but the sills are a lot worse than I thought. I have also started stripping the floor which is in fair condition, some small rust holes in the rh front pan and small amount at left b pillar on top of the body brace. Over the next week or so I will have the front end off and it will go on a rotisserie so I can work on the under side. Still trying to work out how to post the pictures. Jim

Hi all, Iv'e just started pulling down my late 58 fc sedan(now know thanks to forum).I pirchased the car around 13 years ago and was told by the owner that he had it stored in his mums shed in Nowra for the last 12 years. He was told when he purchased it that it was a bare metal respray(hahaha) and that it was a 59FC. I have the FC on full rego and drive when I can(not enough though). I decided to strip it down as the paint was starting to crack around the door handles and started to spot on the roof & bonnet (first hint). I have paint stripped the doors(second hint) and found that it had more paint than the harbour bridge(third hint) so it bacame obvious that it had not been a bare metal respray. The FC is india ivory over granite grey with riff red & black interior. I will post some photos when I work out how to post them. Hopefully it will take around a year to complete as it needs new sills and some other minor repairs, but overall the car is in good shape although I found out when I had it registered that the front end had been changed as there was no chassis no. on it and the engine is from an EK. I halso have another front end and reco 138 sports motor with twin carbs and cast headers from a rusted out car that I got for $600 a few years ago.Regards Jim P.S.this forum has been a real eye opener for me the amount of help and feedback that all give is fantastic.

Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: Seat belts

Hi Leon, I did my lower bracket a little different to Rusty's, made an angle bracket with the nut welded to the inner surface, then drilled a hole in the b pillar and welded it in position around the pillar & floor. This gave a flush fit to the pillar with a bit more space between the seat . Also I have seen the pillar bolts on ebay Regards Jim
