In which part of the world are you located mate?  Also, is it a driver, or a project?  Answer a few basic questions here and it will save you a lot of emails I reckon.

Car sounds interesting.  Thanks for telling us about it.

Uncle Colin has got himself a very original looking paintjob.  Love it.

Here's one courtesy of Victoria Museum archives.  It too shows an unusual paint treatment, this time on an FC Ute with canopy.  Maybe it is fleet colours for somebody...

Glad you made it home... I was pleased to have run into you at Hebel and happy that you got a bit of time checking out old Holdens in St George.
I've escaped Hebel for a day or two due to rain - no need for a water truck, so I'm back in Warwick.  Might catch up with you on your way to Tassie. Wink

Thanks fellas for the ideas.  I hadn't heard of the Marquette before to be honest.  I should have checked what it was.  Your theories about 1930s makes sense after that. Cheesy

I saw this sign in a collection yesterday.  It is one which I hadn't seen before, and presumably it predates Holden cars, so I would guess its vintage as post WW2, but before 1948.  Does anyone know for sure?

Hey Mike,
Did you end up having another go at this great picture or is it still on the backburner?  Would love to see some more progress. Smiley

Paddington 1961.  Flash looking EK - whitewalls, spats etc. Cool  The owner might have been in the bank making a repayment on the new rig.
10  Galleries / Other Images / Interesting number plate pictures on: March 09, 2012, 09:50:30 AM
As well as old Holdens, I have an interest in number plates.  While flicking through old magazines and browsing the web, I save any older pictures featuring number plates on cars.  Mostly I chase pics of Australian plates. They don't have to be on Holdens of course.  Unusual plates such as Taxi or Dealer/Trade plates are more interesting than general issue passenger vehicle plates.  These pictures are helpful to people researching number plate history, and so if you find any, please email or message me.  Perhaps post them here if this thread isn't too off topic.

I'm not the only one with this strange hobby- I'm a member of the NPCC (Number Plate Collectors Club) of Australia which has around 300 members and puts out a 28 page newsletter each 4 months.  In that newsletter there are articles and photographs of older plates and newer issues.  A few club members actively research a particular type of plate or state of issue.  My main interest is Queensland and I've got number plates going back to around 1918 -before the 'Q' plates.

An example of the photographs I'm talking about is this one:

And to make a point, I came across that pic on the internet sometime (years ago?), but a collector in NSW told me yesterday that nobody in the club has a 1960 or 1961 NSW Dealer plate, and they haven't even seen a photograph.  I had a look through my pics and dug this one up.  Exciting stuff, hey?  Anyway, we all need a hobby, so please consider sending me any pics or links to websites you come across.  Similarly, if you are flicking through old magazines from before the 80s (I stupidly gave lots of mine away).
Apologies for the diversion from old Holdens for a few minutes  Wink Wink

Nice pics David, thanks for posting them.
The caption for this one reads "Roy's Hire Cars Baxter House Old Northern Rd Castle Hill next to Rodney's grocery 1958"  Taken from a website about The Hills, Sydney.

I might as well post another couple of related pics while I'm at it...
Before the FC, there was the FX, this similar pic from 1953 (although it looks like Roy might have moved to new premises at some stage):

This one from same source - pic dated 1954:

I heard it was cancelled this year.  What happened?  Any chance of getting back to Timbertown, or is the management there unwilling to co-operate?

keep 'em coming, Alex.  The more you look, the more you find.  New ones seem to turn up all the time.

My wife saw Tim and his family in St George, Queensland a few weeks back and had a tour through their motorhome.  She'd recognised them from an article in a motorhome and caravanning magazine!  Famous hey?
16  For Sale and Wanted / Other Stuff Wanted / Re: RESTORED CARS magazine January and/or March 2005 issues Wanted on: August 20, 2011, 12:41:43 PM
I just took a look and found the issues I'm chasing are numbers 168 and 169.  Copies are available from the great internet garage sale, but with a 'buy it now' price of $14 each plus postage.  I'm too tight to pay that if I can avoid it Wink.

17  For Sale and Wanted / Other Stuff Wanted / RESTORED CARS magazine January and/or March 2005 issues Wanted on: August 20, 2011, 12:19:57 PM
Hi there,
I thought I'd try my luck here chasing a copy of the early 2005 Restored Cars Magazine which featured an article on early vehicle registration in Queensland (circa 1919).

I stopped buying Eddie Ford's magazine for a couple of years, and during this time, Max Gregory wrote the article I'm chasing.

I can probably get a back issue from the publisher, but I'm really only chasing this particular article if anyone could be bothered taking the time to scan and email or photocopy and post it to me.

Thanks,
Shayne, St George, Qld.

Thanks for posting these.  I hadn't seen them before.  Any idea what magazine they were from?

I'd buy it except my wife would go crook if I brought another project home... Wink
