General / General Board / Re: Will a FB Holden bench seat fit into an FC sedan?

I put a reupholstered EK bench seat in my last FE and found that the seat base seemed to be taller than the original. I’m only average height about 5 foot 9, and I was more comfortable without the plastic spacers under the seat runners. Maybe the trimmer went a bit overboard on the padding, don’t know.

This question gets asked a lot, so here is my opinion. Firstly are you keeping the car long term? If yes, then I recommend building it how you want it to look. ID plate numbers are pretty meaningless to most people just as correct engine number is not a big deal. The only reason you would take this into account is if you wanted to go full concourse original.
Frankly I think I would get depressed driving a car painted differently to how I really wanted it, especially seeing how much it costs.
If you were going to sell it in the short to medium term, then you may want to paint it to match the ID plate because it would appeal to more buyers.

No, there should be captive nuts in the floor. The bolts usually get rusted underneath and tend to damage the captive nuts which is probably why they are missing. Pretty easy to make up a replacement and weld it underneth

Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: Distributor location

Advance should point almost directly towards the front of the car. Installation as follows Locate no 1 piston at TDC on power stroke ( take off rocker cover to check power stroke on no 1) There is a small notch on the rim of the distributor which when installed should line up with the rotor button. You need to align the oil pump drive so that when the distributor is installed it rotes slightly and goes into the oil pump drive and you end up with the rotor button aligned with the notch on the distributor drive

I know Vern did his with the column in the car, and I take my hat off to him. My recommendation would be to take the column out of the car to do this job. All the electricals have to be disconnected and the top of the steering column has to be pulled apart anyway, and it is a very easy job with the column on the bench. Bonus with the column out is that you can clean up the subframe and steering box.

The dome goes the way you had it originally. I think the horn body needs to be rotated on the horn base. It’s hard not having a horn here that I can play with.

Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: underbody paint

It was in fact a GMH Nasco option. Very rare to find. It was called “proofcoat” It was common for Some of the fleet vehicles to have it. My army sedan had it done from new. The complete underbody was done as well asInside the front guards was done, inside the bumpers, and even inside the hubcaps. Downside is that it was done after the car was finished so it tends to really make underneath the car look very messy underneath
