Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: Roof Gutter Stainless Strips

Gary is correct, the idea is to try not to let the screw driver go under the strip but just push the edge of the strip away. The other idea is to stop the stripe from bending as much as possible hence tapping lightly and along a 6 inch length at a time.

General / FE-FC Holden Nationals / Re: NATIONALS ENTRIES
|
on: February 25, 2003, 08:23:35 AM

Mick - our club is asking the same question. Can the QLD club at least send a receipt for monies sent ? I know you are not personally responsible for doing this, but trust that you could print this off and make it known to the organising person(s). The lack of information to entrants, to car clubs, in the QLD newsletter, and on this site is very frustrating, since whenever the subject is raised at the meetings (it's raised every meeting) all we can say is that we haven't heard anything and assume all is well. I am convinced that many Victorians have decided not to go because they just don't get a warm feel about the whole thing. I have even rung the number on the entry form and left a message for someone to ring me back - all to no avail!
Only the diehards are coming from Victoria.

Graham - no fitting instructions, but from photos of my old 217, the screws on the front part of the handle line up with the centre line of the inside door handle

Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Bad leak - is this hole normal?!?
|
on: February 17, 2003, 09:37:52 AM
|
Notwithstanding the possible rust area which Craig has mentioned, the hole shown is where the water is probably coming from as this hole should have a bolt with a rubber backed washer in it !!!!!!!! The bolt holds the guard on at the top and was probably left out by the person who fitted the guard because it is difficult to fit. You need a 3/8 th drive socket with an extension to get past the door hinge and you may have to loosen the other screws in the guard if the bolt will not go in because the holes are not lined up properly.
Without a bolt in this hole you have a direct water passage from the inside of the car to the inner guard area at the top. Everytime it rains - water goes down behind the mudguard and straight into the car. Check the other side as well - there may not be a bolt in that side either. Ken

Richard, you are correct - I will give you one when I come up for the Nats, I got 2 given to me after the photo shoot. It was a real problem for me as I hung it on the wall at the start of the year and I just couldnt turn it past June!
The calendar is the most stunning thing I have ever seen, the paper effects are unbelievable. It was not available to the general public as it was a promotional thing made by the paper company to give away to their clients. Pity as it would have been a big seller.

For Sale and Wanted / Parts For Sale / Re: N.O.S. FC Front Indicator housing

Slim and Ace, I have been asked to make a comment here and reluctantly I will, but it is difficult since I haven't seen the part(s) in question.
I will confirm that there were FC headlight, taillight, park lights and grilles supplied from the factory in green etch primer as new parts for use on FC utes and vans. However without seeing the part I cannot say that what Slim has bought is NOS. There should be no evidence whatsoever of screws being done up on the back or front or marks which would indicate dechroming from a previously chromed part. For all intents and purposes it should look very clean as you would expect a NOS part to be. It should not look like a dechromed part.

Spider I have to say that you put yourself in great jeopardy by grinding the calipers.
This is very unsafe as you would be amazed how much a caliper flexes under load.
I currently work in a brake shop where we do big brake conversions and we have also fixed other peoples creations including ground down calipers which have broken with very exciting consequences.

Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: Heater Tap & Nasco mirror
|
on: February 10, 2003, 10:08:56 AM
|
Believe it or not but the brass tank tap you have is original NASCO equipment. The handle should be bigger one side than the other and have a small printed stamp on one side. The genuine Nasco mirror for the guard has NASCO printed on the back in the diamond shape but no part number. The door mirror does not unscrew from the stalk without breaking the glass.
The mirror with the part number is a later one but i'm not sure what model it's off.

I assume this is on a NSW car ? This stuff is not on Vic cars, but the NSW plant had a dipping tank which dipped the bottom half of the car in some stuff. I've been told it is hard to get off. Sorry can't help you with the real answer to your problem. Ken

Technical Board / General Technical / Re: NOS DEFINITION ?
|
on: February 09, 2003, 08:25:45 AM
|
Craig is pretty much on the money here, I've seen some NOS stuff which is just rubbish (especially diecast) second hand stuff would be better than this. A combination of rust and general wear & tear will take its toll on any NOS unless it has been stored really well.
However - I think Slim is eluding to the more dodgy art of advertising something as NOS when it really isn't. And the seller knows that it isn't !!!
This is what makes buying on ebay difficult as a lot of trust is put in a small picture and the claims of the seller.

Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: paint scheme for FC Special
|
on: February 08, 2003, 11:34:57 AM

Kathleen, apart from origianal NOS FE and FC bonnets which were coated in a resin material, later replacement bonnets were black. Slack/Cheap paint shops after repairing a damaged car would paint only the outside of the bonnet - hence black underbonnets.

Rob, I have a photocopy of most of the Tilli catalogue - I didn't get the parts ordering pages for the models other than Holden, but still have 55 pages of info. Cars covered are VW, Falcon, Holden, Zephyr, Consul, Anglia, Cortina, Hillman, Vauxhall, Mini, Morris, Valiant & Simca.
Costs me 20 cents a page at the local library if you are interested.
I have a copy of the Autolux catalogue as well. Regards Ken
