22  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Gearbox oil on: May 17, 2021, 01:18:52 PM
Thanks Errol , I see you use Moreys as well , good to see . It seems that using 80/90 oil is the go & whatever brand is a personal choice . Thanks for reply .cheers John.
23  Technical Board / General Technical / Gearbox oil on: May 14, 2021, 03:11:39 PM
I will be changing the gasket on the gearbox shortly & normally use Castrol oils for engine etc . What do others use , if using Castrol ? There’s a castrol universal 80/90. For manual transmissions . The GMH manual shows straight run mineral oil SAE 90 . I’m probably worrying about nothing . Cheers John .
24  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Brake Shoes on: April 17, 2021, 05:11:27 PM
So as I mentioned earlier I changed the front brake drums over to opposite sides & haven’t driven the car for several days & the cooler weather is starting . a sure fire recipe to lock up the front r/h brake . At first touch of the brake pedal . Surprisingly they worked perfectly. I’ve done everything except change the drums over to date  , it will take a lot more good first starts to convince me that was the problem& why . Cheers ,John
25  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Brake Shoes on: April 15, 2021, 08:01:38 PM
Thanks Rob , yes I’m aware of the primary & secondary  lining lengths . I’ve been having a hell of a time with my front right brakes locking on particularly after a period of non use ,more so in the cooler weather .I’ve done everything . What ever you suggest it’s been done . The latest try is change brake drums over .right to left . It’s a long problem , it was there prior to Toowoomba: & Canberra . Refurbished wheel cylinders . Lines ok . Linings clean .& thickness correct . Always the R/H front . & savage locking on till a lot of running up & down the drive gets it right & fit for the road .   So linings correct length the shoes are all ok front or back .I’m so desperate I’ve picked up front & back shoes with linings from Brakebonders with correct thickness linings matching my drums . There no = N1175  cheers John

Just a Quick one , are the brake shoes the same on the FE  front & back ? Cheers ,John .
27  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Front right hand brake on: March 29, 2021, 02:52:13 PM
Thanks for replies ,Errol 62 & Fraze . Yes the linings have the chamfer on them.before we cut the secondary down in length the car had a tendency to pull right slightly , after the fix ( hopefully ) we drove down the road on a flat section & hands off steering wheel slammed the brakes on . I nearly ..it my self but she didn’t wander at all . It’s been quite hot in WA lately ,so I’ll not drive it for a few days & give it another go . Will keep you posted . Cheers .John BM
28  Technical Board / General Technical / Front right hand brake on: March 28, 2021, 09:07:10 PM
I have forever had my front right hand brake lock on on , more so after a period of non use , or in cold weather . Here we go i hear some say . But I have done extensive work on my brake system everything refurbished,& I mean everything . When I last did a major work package on her i had the front linings done.now this may be the answer.being an idiot I took the brake shoes to be re lined & received the brakes back with full length linings . Now the workshop manual shows the front shoe ( primary ) as full length) .the rear shoe ,lining) as just over 6 inches as secondary. I or we have just about given up on it , so we cut the secondary lining down to a precautionary 7 in , in other words to near enough what it states in the workshop manual . And , fingers crossed I have only taken her out once since it was done & all was well . Mind you it’s the cold weather that starts it off . Hopefully it’s sorted . Mind you it was doing it in Toowoomba: &  Canberra.we will see . Cheers .John

32  Technical Board / General Technical / Hand brake cable connection on: January 15, 2021, 07:25:00 PM
Just interested to know if a cir clip was used when fitting the front cable to the hand brake projection thru the firewall . The cable has the ball fitting into the recess & the hand brake shaft it sits in has a slot around it . Just put in a new boot rubber in the firewall & it’s since been brought to my attention a cir clip was installed when new . I didn’t notice one when I removed the old boot . Cheers ,John .

That would be great if you could part with one that in your opinion is in reasonable condition, I remember at the Canberra nationals some poor soul developed a crack in theirs , but within several hours it had been sorted out & replaced. can we recommunicate just after Xmas ,I’m in WA . So would need details to put monies in to your A/C . Or send POSTAL ORDER . cheers John BM .

37  For Sale and Wanted / Parts Wanted / Gearbox Main shaft on: December 02, 2020, 09:47:20 PM
Just putting it out there , at some stage my gearbox will need reconditioning & I already have a few essentials. Does anyone have a Main Shaft hidden under their bed in very good condition .out there . There’s one on EBay at the moment   2/12/20 . But looks to be for a EH . Selling as NOS but I doubt it looking at its condition . Cheers ,John .
