Q:would there be any problem placing a fuel filter just outside the fuel tank ; as opposed to between the main line & the fuel pump ? Standard grey on FE .it seems the pump would have a longer distance to drag the fuel. ?ta

Remembering some good advice ‘ when about to leave Noresman- take a deep breath -put a few drops of oil in generator- turn grease cup on the distributor a couple of times - make sure I have a small hammer to give the carby a good whack if it floods & all should be well 🍺

General / General Board / Re: FE Sedan Jack

Ken, It would seem I have one of the rare ones, which came with the car. It is as you described it, the warning decal for its use also has the manufacturers name on it which was W. H. Wylie & Co Ltd from Hilton South Aust and the handle is one piece

General / General Board / FE Sedan Jack

Can someone please clarify which type of jack came with the FE Sedan from the factory? I have been told bottle-type is for commercial vehicles and scissor-type for sedans. Which is correct so I can sleep tonight

Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Distributor Replacement
|
on: August 05, 2017, 01:59:25 PM

Ken & Rob: Thanks very much for your feedback, really appreciate it. My main concern replacing the original, is the gears not meshing as in a matched pair. Anyway, I think I will go ahead and do the replacement - if I don't turn up in Canberra, you know it didn't work out well. (Gulp)

Technical Board / General Technical / Distributor Replacement
|
on: August 04, 2017, 06:06:14 PM

I'm not mechanically minded, so bear with me. I have an FE with the original engine that came with the car, plus all that hangs off it. I'm in WA and have driven over and back from the last two nationals. I have the opportunity to acquire a reconditioned distributor (most everything else has been seen to). If I replace the distributor is there any chance of it not 'bedding' in to the motor: ie the gears meshing in together. Or if it's not broke, don't fix it? I'm happy to change distributor and it works ok, it's just one more thing I don't have to worry about 600kms east of Norseman. JohnBM

Technical Board / General Technical / Clutch Shudder
|
on: June 03, 2017, 02:34:42 PM
|
I have owned my original FE for near enough to 40 years, and would be grateful if someone could offer an explanation to my problem. The motor & gear box are the original ones and when taking off in first gear there is a distinctive 'chatter or shudder' experienced, more so after a run in the car, when it is hot. This has been so for some time. I have recently had the clutch done with a new kit and I hoped that the issue would've resolved itself, and also new rear engine mounts were put in. The GMH Workshop Manual describes this problem with various options as to the cause, which I have checked out! It doesn't seem to be a major issue (I hope) because of the time it's been there, plus we've done two trips over East with no problems. Any input would be appreciated.

General / General Board / Trim Fasteners for FE Sedan
|
on: March 06, 2017, 01:49:08 PM

I am looking for the fasteners/pins or similar that will do the job to hold the internal front door trim chrome strips to the trim boards left and right hand sides. They are also used on the front seat plastic type trim (both sides). ie: on the doors the pin head slots into the chrome strip and can be moved to align with the holes in the board, the tail piece goes through the board then bends over to hold the strip in place. Rare Spares don't supply. Also am after a grill insect screen for an FE, before our next trip across the nullarbor.
