5  Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: EH Brakes on FC stock front and rear ends on: March 08, 2011, 04:13:23 PM
Another way you could go which I have done a few times is use a late HD or HR drum front end, change engine mounts and outrigger. You still have a standard looking drum brake system with ball joints. Gives a better ride and better steering. Ball joints last longer and are cheaper to replace than king pins.
6  Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: EH Brakes on FC stock front and rear ends on: March 08, 2011, 03:39:18 PM
Hi Craig  you can use FC front end just got to redrill backing plates, you will have to use EJ, EH, HD or HR rear end. If you use HD or HR rear you won,t have to move the rear flexible brake hose connection on diff housing. I,m going to the meeting tonight so I will see you then.      Al

9  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Blown head gasket on: December 30, 2009, 11:35:38 PM
John, First check the engine dip stick for water and increased oil level, If the head gasket has blown that bad or the head / block has cracked you,d see those signs on the dip stick, if Ok then check the thermostat... sounds like there could be a blockage in the cooling system some were.  Good luck  Al

Wow Craig, I remember when we striped the motor down, measured the bore and was surprised and glad that it was standard. I also remember late one night in the workshop weighing and filing engine parts  making sure all the pistons weighed the same also the conrods, maincaps, ect... using June's kitchen scales which if she knew about, she would have killed me. The motor that's in the ute now I rebuilt not long after I did your's. Were did 23yrs go....

Hey Damo58,           I know you guys aren,t backward Cheesy Grin. I just couldn,t understand why fc mad was asking about a motor that,s in Sydney when he comes from another state (see I was beeing nice calling Tassie a state). When he first inquirerd I thought he must have lived around my area.  $700 for a V6, no harness & starter motor!!!! no wonder he asked.       Cheers Al

19  Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: Aussie Desert Cooler. on: November 15, 2007, 02:21:05 PM
Ed,    what you can do which I,ve done before is to increase water capacity, I use,t to get a cortina rocker covers drill a hole in the opposite end from the oil filler and soilder a radiator outlet connection in, (same size as the bottom rad hose) then weld a plate the length of the opening on the R Cover with 4 mounting holes. Mount the RC on front panel (close to radiator) put a hose from the bottom of the rad to the connection on bottom of RC then from top of RC put another hose to water pump on motor, gives the motor about 4 extra litres. You don,t have to use a RC. I used Cortina ones because the oil filler neck was long and the right size for hoses, plus every wrecker had them and they were cheap. Try something like that!!!! might be easier than trying to make a shroud fit.  Hope this helps you.           Cheers Al
20  Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: Aussie Desert Cooler. on: November 15, 2007, 11:41:50 AM
Hi Ed,    Ben had a lot of trouble keeping the HR cool, he had the Aussie Desert Rad in it with thermos but it still got hot in traffic and really hot days. After a lot of pain, I finally convinced him to put on a large flexible engine fan  (you know how stubburn Ben is  Smiley) and it fixed the overheating problem. The trouble with putting bigger motors in these cars is that the engine bay is too small and the heat from the motor and exhaust can,t get away quick enough which causes heating problems. Ben also has a transmission fan cooler under the front of the car which helps as well. I think any good radiator will do the job with a bit of help from other things.            Cheers Al
