1  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: FB Trim on: June 10, 2003, 10:35:49 AM
Hi Scott,
Thanks for that - the seats are one colour all over (the vinyl bit) and it seems a bizzare way to reupholster them - just taking out the middle and sewing in material. The bottom of the seat is a red painted metal with a chrome trim - a lot of work to go to for just a seat.  Cars seemed to be a work of art back then compared to the tin cans that are around now!

Cheers,
Suzanne

The body is FB225-18895-9
trim 611-941
paint 585-9669

Thanks a tonne!

Hiya Rob, thanks for your help.  Tassie was wonderful and now I want to move home again!  The fresh air, polite people and no traffic were heavenly.  But now it's back to the rat-race.  I took the car for a drive this morning and I can't believe how many people pulled in front of me leaving half a metre of space.  My FB is not designed to duck and weave!!

5  Technical Board / Restoration Help / FB Trim on: June 04, 2003, 06:12:01 AM
Hello,
The seats in my FB car are different to the standard seats. This is the trim code - can anyone help me decipher it?  Trim 611-N41.  They have material sewn into the vinyl so it could be from a later or earlier Holden perhaps.

Thanks for any advice

6  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Reconditioned Engine? on: December 31, 2002, 08:54:45 AM
Thanks to RET, Wayne and Slim for your replies -  As I will either have to get the car towed from Rose Bay I will give Dennis in Ashfield a call.  Otherwise, I will be either brave or stupid and drive it there!  Thanks so much for the advice.  I'll let you know how I go!   Smiley
Much appreciated

The sound was more of a ticking than a knocking...but you could definately hear it.  It was faster in the lower gears and eased off in neutral.  I might go and try it now, see if it's still there!  Wayne, I'm in East Sydney.  I would really appreciate the name of a good mechanic - thanks!
Cheers

8  Technical Board / General Technical / Reconditioned Engine? on: December 30, 2002, 02:26:33 AM
Hi all,
I just got back from a leisurely drive and the engine started making an obvious ticking sound - more pronounced in lower gear.  The NRMA man had a look and said to have it towed to a mechanic   Cry.

He also suggested I get a reconditioned engine.  As far as I can see it is an original grey engine (FB).  Is a reconditioned engine the best way if the current one needs work - or should I stick with the grey engine and fix it? (whatever the mysterious problem is!)
Thank guys
Suzanne
9  For Sale and Wanted / Parts For Sale / Re: Electric wipers on: November 04, 2002, 12:27:46 PM
Hi Slim,
If the wipers turn out to be EK's and they fit into an FB - I'd be interested in them (I haven't had a chance to test the vacuum ones yet but I hear they aren't the best!).

Cheers

10  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Scratched Windscreen on: October 26, 2002, 09:49:25 AM
Hi all,
I have tested the windscreen and it does seem to leak at the front, water just appears out of nowhere and drips onto the floor where the curve of the glass is.

In this case, am I best to have someone replace the windscreen and still use the current rubbers hoping this will fix it (as you suggest Ken).  The rubbers look alright to me, no cracks - or does the leak mean they need replacing?

That's probably a really stupid question and you're all out there slapping your foreheads -  but... but.... I just don't know!!  Roll Eyes

Thanks again
Suzanne

Hi gree,
Yes I'm in Sydney with an FB.  The only problem is I can't put the window screen in - so if that's the way to go then I'd need to buy a new one to get them to fit it!  Smiley

12  Technical Board / General Technical / Scratched Windscreen on: October 15, 2002, 03:44:25 AM
Hi all,
The windscreen on my car has been scratched by the window wipers.  To have it cleaned up is approx $100 but I risk getting distortion.  Am I better off to pay a bit better and get a new windscreen or am I asking for trouble with the rubber and seals and possible rust?

Thanks again!

13  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: Respray dilemma on: October 06, 2002, 09:31:37 AM
That's very wise advice.  I just wanted to be sure I wasn't about to commit a sacreligious offence in the Holden world!  You're very right and I thank you all for the advice.  Percy stays with me and gets the paint colours I want.

Now how do I find the original schemes and a person who can interpret them - I guess that's a whole new subject!  Wink
Thanks again.  I hope one day I can contribute instead of just asking questions!
Regards.

Thanks guys for your help on the indicators and wipers.  I've replaced all the bulbs with 12v globes and bought a new flasher unti and the indicators now work beautifully.   Cheesy
Next weekend will start work on the wipers!

16  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Respray dilemma on: September 28, 2002, 09:21:30 AM
Hi all,
I'm back for some more advice...

I've always wanted an old Holden, in light blue and white.  Recently I bought the 2nd car I laid eyes on - an FB sedan that's all original as far as I can tell.... but... it's a tan/brown and white car with a red and white trim.  I have had no problems (so far) with the engine or brakes, etc. and it seems to be a pretty good car.

I'm thinking about having the car resprayed but I'm not sure what to do.  Do I respray it the light blue and white I want or do I keep it the original colour?

If I respray a different colour will I be depreciating the value as it will no longer be original, and I might be better off just buying a car in the colour I want?

If I sell this car to buy a blue car then I might be selling a car I know is good for something unknown...   (it's a cosmetic thing I know - but I just love that pale blue!)

What do you recommend??
:-/

Thanks again
Suzanne

Thank you all very much - the first chance I get to look in the light (this having to work for a living business really is awful!!) and I'll be out there to check the globes and the wipers.

I appreciate your help very much
Cheers!

18  Technical Board / General Technical / Indicator and Wiper question on: September 23, 2002, 05:51:30 AM
Hi all,
I'm hoping someone can help me out with their knowledge. When I indicate to go either left or right (in my FB), both arrows flash on the dashboard - is this normal?
I also have a silver button on the wiper switch, and pipes that lead (almost) to a water bottle, but I can't see anywhere on the wipers or surrounding area for the water to come out!

Thanks to anyone who can shed some light on these things for me!

Hi Craig,
Well you have no idea of the amount of time that I have spent surfing the net!!!  I have a 'favourites' list as long as my arm.  This one is the best though - the others are good but they may not have postings for days on end where this one really thrives and has so much info.

Thanks for your help.  I can see I am going to be spending all my hard earned cash on the fb for the next few months (if not for the rest of my life!).  I had no idea there were so many parts in one car!!!! Smiley

And hello to Ace - I'll give you a call tomorrow - I'm looking forward to finding out which parts you have!!  Talk to you then.

Regards
Suzanne
