1  General / General Board / Re: R.I.P Norm dawe on: November 08, 2014, 07:05:33 PM
An old thread but about a terrific fella. Gone but never forgotten.

I had some axles made for my XU1 by Keith Croft and when I picked them up he told me he built an FC race car in the late 60's.
Well it turns out it was the car that Norm bought when he owned a music shop on Blacktown NSW

After Norm passed away the car was stripped and restored by a family member and is now partially completed and at Greystanes NSW.

I have the details for the current owner and can pass them on if anyone is interested.

PM me of you are serious. It's not cheap but a significant early FC racer that you can get a Cams log book for. That and the person who originally built it has verified it and has lots of early pictures.

RIP Norm. Not forgotten. Ever.
2  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Timing a grey with a 20/60 cam on: October 08, 2014, 08:51:56 PM
What is the total timing?
Static plus centrifugal?
Should be all in and about 30 deg at 2500 rpm.

That cam will take a little more static timing than stock. Add a couple of deg btdc.

If it's sluggish up high it will be a total timing issue.
Maybe weights in the dizzy stuck?

You can also widen the plug gap with electronic ignition. A little more power there.

I'd be happy to help if you needed white cars.

Cheers,

5  General / General Board / NEW 215/50/13 TYRES NOW AVAILABLE on: August 11, 2014, 09:26:11 PM
Thought guys on here would be interested. Nangkang have remade 215/50/13 tyres. These are available in Sydney from:

AAA TYRE FACTORY
Old Guildford Branch
Unit 9/2 Donald Street
Old Guildford
9681 3940
You must ask for Leah and tell her Anthony told you about the tyres. Anthony is a mate of mine and has bargained them to just $150.00 per tyre. Usually $200 each

These have been hard to get for years. Hopefully this helps someone.

6  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Advice sought on red six compression test/diagnosis on: August 10, 2014, 03:48:04 PM
Do a cylinder balance test.
Set a fast idle - say 1200rpm

Take cyl 1 and 2 leads off - measure rpm drop
then do three and four
then five and six

then do it one a time
Is it more related to a pair of cyl's (that carby) or just to one cyl?

Another thing to check is for a bent dizzy shaft. You can check in the car with a dwell meter or pop the cap off and watch while someone turns it over.
Dried grease on the lobes of the dizzy cam can also make a couple of cylinders weaker than the others (short coil charge cycle)
7  Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: Flywheel lightening for red six on: June 16, 2014, 09:48:32 PM
Do you use a 3.55 diff? Will work great on the street with that cam and lighter flywheel.
8  Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: Flywheel lightening for red six on: June 16, 2014, 09:47:06 PM
Use the light Yella Terra lightweight steel version.

Also use ARP bolts and torque correctly with loctite.

Good to see him pop up John, albeit in unfortunate circumstances.
A very pretty car.

Merry Xmas.
11  General / General Board / Re: Long time owners of the same FE FC. on: October 15, 2013, 08:12:31 PM
Great stories.

Alex, thats amazing bringing 7 babies home in the same car. Hopefully a few got made there too  Tongue

I love the fact that MalFE has had his since new.

I've had mine since March 1985, purchased from a car yard on Parramatta Road Sydney.

I was just over 20 at the time. Now just about to turn 49.
Hard to believe I've had it for that long. It just sort of sits in the garage now but I would never sell it.

My eldest daughter is now 17 and drove it a few months back. Makes me feel like a pensioner :-)

12  For Sale and Wanted / Other Stuff Wanted / WTB - Banjo 3.55 or 3.36 on: August 20, 2013, 10:07:56 PM
Does anyone have a 3.36 or 3.55 banjo diff centre for sale?

Don't care if its fine or coarse spline as I just need a good crown wheel and pinion to repair an LSD centre
Most important thing is the condition of the crown wheel and pinion.

I am in Parramatta area of Sydney so something close would be ideal but crown wheel and pinion would be easy enough to ship from most anywhere.

Appreciate any assistance that can be given.

Thanks

Craig

18  For Sale and Wanted / Reproduction Parts / Re: SAVE $$ Parts Catalogue 1948 - 1967 complete on: July 22, 2011, 05:14:36 PM
Just got my copy.

I've used a hard copy before but the soft version is much less cumbersome and very easy to use.

Top job making it available for download.

Cheap as well - surely everyone on here would want a copy??

Performance Ignition

20  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: drive-line vibration on: July 03, 2011, 10:33:40 AM
So you can feel it through your backside but not so much through the steering wheel?

When its vibrating does it go away when you take it out of gear?

Could be as simple as rear wheel balance. Swapping the front wheels to the back is a quick and easy check.

Or possibly an out of balance tailshaft.
