michaels57,

You must be kidding.

When I found out how young you were, I was prepared to give you the benefit of the doubt.  I do remember being 17, and figured that your comparative youth went some way towards explaining your thin skin.  Whilst you triggered a lot of good natured banter about HQ-WB etc, very little of what followed was actually aimed at you personally.  A couple of comments were borderline, but no-one called you names or gave you grounds for a libel suit.

You had a little tantrum, and in the process told us your age.  Subsequently, a number of people apologised either publicly or privately to you.  Instead of accepting these apologies graciously, you start crowing:
Quote
ANd THEY ALL YELPED RETREAT!!!!!!
AND SCOURED AWAY

I bet the apologies have dried up pretty quick since then.  I know I deleted the one I was writing.

And now you want help?  There is at least one professional graphic artist who participates here, and probably half-a-dozen amateur ones.  None of them are likely to appreciate being called a geek.  You've got a strange way of asking for favours.

Here's your couch:

Brad,

No worries.  Just go to the main site http://www.fefcholden.org.au and follow the links to any and all of the state sites.  NSW, Qld and Vic all have downloadable application forms.  You will need to get in contact with the SA club directly (committee@sa.fefcholden.org.au) if you wish to join them - and they're geographically closest to you - since they don't have that information for download.

There seem to be plenty of people in WA with FEs and FCs that participate here.  You guys need to get yourselves organised into a local club.  It's not like your state is that big Roll Eyes

Liam,

As Ken says, the choice is wide open.  For what it's worth, I have LJ Torana seats in my FE, which fit neatly with room for a HK console between them.  They are low-back, too, so they look the part.  They also have those triangular head-rests that HQs had, which can be easily put in and taken out for long trips etc.

They are also pretty easy to get hold of.

Really, you're all too kind.

Having got the boards up and running, it's all of you who deserve the thanks for logging in, asking your questions and answering the questions of others.  As I said before, you need to have the community to build the community resource.

I'm looking forward to seeing more and more club-related stuff going on in the private boards - since the clubs pay for this site, we might as well derive the benefit of it.  It's a great opportunity for your members (and particularly the far-flung ones) to have a say and to know what's going on in the club.

Thanks again, and keep on postin'  Grin

Shannons have always been pretty good.  They are happy to insure modifieds, which some other prestige and classic insurers won't.  Typically the rates are about double for a modified, but this will depend on your age, driving history etc.

By way of example my modified FE sedan is insured with Shannons for about 6K and costs in the low $300 for comprehensive insurance.

NRMA policies do not explicitly exclude modifieds, but they will generally want to inspect the car.  Their vintage/veteran policy can be downloaded from their site.

Hope that helps,

Hi there Brad,

Good on you for bringing your FC across.  The event is held over the Easter long weekend, which will be 18-21 April 2003.
The venue for the weekend is the Isle of Palms Resort http://www.isleofpalms.com.au/, and you need to mention that you are part of the FE-FC Holden Nationals when you ring up to book your accommodation.

At this stage the entry forms have not been released, but they are expected in the next 2 months or so.  More info will be posted here when they are available, rest assured of that.

Please note that you must be a member of one of the FE-FC Holden Car Clubs of Australia, or a member of an invited club to participate in the Nats.  Vehicle entry is not open to the general public.  Those clubs include:
  • FE-FC Holden Car Club of NSW
  • FE-FC Holden Car Club of Vic
  • FE-FC Holden Car Club of Qld
  • FE-FC Holden Car Club of SA
  • NSW Mid North Coast FE-FC Club
  • FE-HR Holden Owners Club of ACT
  • FE-HR Holden Owners Club of Tas

If you belong to another club you can apply for your club's invitation.  Email nats@fefcholden.org.au if you'd like to know more about that.

Sorry to crack you over the head with the rules and regs, but how pissed would you be to drive across from WA, doing three fibre timing gears along the way and not be able to participate?! Angry

cheers

There's both a green-tip and a blue-tip aerial for sale on Ebay http://pages.ebay.com.au/search/items/search.html at the moment.  Do a search for aerial and you'll find them.

Just noticed that we cracked 150 members yesterday - another 50 members in 3 months + heaven knows how many guests.

Thanks everyone for participating - you can't build a community resource without a willing community. Grin

Craig,

Great work sniffing those out.  If you do a search for Holden and then for GMH you wind up with even more.

I've grabbed every one I could  find that looked interesting or belonged to the 1956-59 period, along with its caption.  Be warned, some of them that purport to be Melbourne 1959 must be far earlier, prob 1949 I guess, since they show humpies.  Theres a whole series of them L300xx like that.

Gary,

Register on the site with a proper login, and you can get access to the club-members only area.  Ring me if you have problems.

air-chief,

Unfortunately I have two dogs, and they don't share nicely.  (Do any?)  I don't want to be in the market for another of the bloody things, but maybe someone out there Wink has one for a good price.  I'll watch the Parts For Sale with interest.........

However, this is my hose-reel:

yackboy,

I'm not aware of p/steering as a bolt-on, but there are some rack and pinion steering options around that might be another option to consider.  CRS do one - see http://www.rodshop.com.au.  This also gives you some different steering box options as well.

With your brakes, are you sure the booster is getting vacuum and works correctly?  Does it feel any different with the motor off?  Find a safe hill somewhere where you can roll down with the engine off, and pump the brakes a couple of times as you start to get rid of any residual vacuum (assuming you have any in the first place  :-/ )

Apologies if I'm you've exhausted this possibility already.

Yeah sorry about that.  In addition to having something to say about everything on this site, I also participate heavily in a couple of Mac forums.  Guess I got my passions mixed.  As long as CraigA doesn't bait me, I won't do it again.  Lips sealed

By the way, I bought a FC LHS Guard on the weekend from a garage sale, and the bloke told me on the phone that he also had a hubcap for a Holden.

When I got there he had left, but his brother was there, who told me that his instructions were that "if I was a nice bloke, to give me the hub-cap".  Nice bloke notwithstanding (you know, being a Mac zealot and all), I got the hubcap as well as the guard.

This anecdote is going somewhere, btw.  The hubcaps's not an FE/FC one, it's off a HQ-HZ.  Don't knock me down in the rush of offers - please form an orderly queue...  Grin

When I feel the need for that sort of pain I can run VirtualPC on my Mac.  The rest of the time I can just get on with the job, using a personal computer with an industrial strength Unix core.  I can run:
  • MacOS "Classic" applications
  • MacOSX applications
  • PC Applications
  • even X-Windows unix applications
...and I can run them all simultaneously.  I burn CDs with it, scan stuff, print photos etc, have made movies (not AVIs, but full DVD quality movies) with it, manage thousands of digital photos with it, use it as a web-server to develop this site, as well as the usual writing docs in MS Word, emailing and surfing etc that you 96%ers do.

What I don't do is worry about Melissa, and Code Red, and SirCam, and Nimda, and all these other viruses that the script kiddies out there are unleashing to make computer users' lives miserable.  That's another benefit of being in the top 4 %.

Sorry for the soapbox but I love my computer.  It's a boon to my creativity (even perl programming is creative), not the bane of my existence as your description of your PC suggests.

By the way, thanks again for your help getting my wiper motor installed.  You're a top bloke.  Grin

Once you have created your car press the ALT + PRTSRC Keys - this will copy your image to the Windows clipboard (this won't work for Mac users, but who cares about them anyway hey RET  Wink )

I can't help it that you poor benighted souls appreciate power, elegance and simplicity in your Holdens, yet fail to appreciate the same qualities in a computer.

If you are running MacOS9, use shift-cmd-3 to take a screen shot.
Under MacOSX, the utility Grab is what you need.

I would have thought there would have been a general interest in Holden as whole and not just in the first few years

Mate, the beauty of the internet is that it allows an outlet for community amongst people with similar interests, no matter how focused that niche may be.  The interest of people in this group is FE and FC Holdens.  Period.  Not HQs, not Commodores, not Brabham Toranas, not (god help us) Piazzas or anything else.  The URL is a bit of a giveaway, I would have thought.  So sorry to disappoint, but it is just a few years that are relevant here.

I wouldn't say this isn't a discussion my article has been read more then most others and it is a 'hot topic'

It's hot, but how many of the responses have been positive?  The messages seem to me to be either (a) asking you to find somewhere else to flog your stuff, or (b) just taking the piss.

Quote
i say don't spek for all when your only one

Well I don't think I am.  You have had responses to your other post regarding where you can find an appropriate site to sell your stuff.  This site is not it.  But further to my first point, the internet is big enough for us all - if you can't find a site for HQ-WB, then start your own.  You can download this bulletin board software for free at http://www.xnull.com/

Feel free to post ads here for red motor parts, and anything else you have for sale that is suitable for FE and FC Holdens.  But find another avenue for the HQ-WB specific parts.

Thanks
