Our other Perth-based member has never had anything particularly encouraging to say about RS over there either Roll Eyes

Their website and online store is at http://www.rarespares.net.au, and the shipping prices are reasonable.  You can also ring the Campbellfield HO and get them to send stuff over to Perth for you.  Don't waste any time getting onto this, as only very limited numbers of those rubbers were made.....

Happy to help.

I can't recommend too strongly to you that you get along to the FE-FC Holden Car Club of Vic's next meeting (which is this coming Tuesday).  Details can be found at http://www.vic.fefcholden.org.au

There are a heap of guys in that club who will be only too happy to help you out, and can show you what the original gear looked like, as well as where you might source some of it.

It's been my experience in the NSW Club that many people wait until their car is on the road before fronting up to a club meeting.  Why do things the hard way?  Join up now, and learn from other people's experience.  That's what the clubs are there for.

I'm not in Melbourne, but in answer to your questions:

1.  Out of a wreck is probably your best bet.  Never seen it for sale.  (Come to think of it I've never been asked this before Wink )
2.  Ditto
3.  The kick-panels are made of quite thick card with an embossed pattern in them.  If you can't find a set in your interior's colour, they come up OK with vinyl paint.
4.  Original vinyl (and it was vinyl, not Elascofab in the utes) is very hard to get.  Hopefully someone in Melb can point you in the right direction.
5.  Rare Spares, Spectrum Rubber etc
6.  Rare Spares (it's called wind-lacing, btw)
7.  Geez, was this car a burnt out shell?  What happened to the interior?  The trimmer (that I can't help you with Roll Eyes ) should be able to assist here.
8.  Rubber mats only - speak to Martin of Obsolete Rubber Mats (they're Melbourne based, 0412 941 799, or ah.03 9317 8725)
9.  Rare Spares recently remade 'standard' and ute/van screen rubbers (they don't have the groove for the stainless trim that "Special" sedans/wagons have).
10. Rare Spares / Spectrum Rubber / off a wreck

Hope all that helps,

Thank you every one, the car was recovered in Northern Canberra with some
minor damage.  We are very very relieved and now completely paranoid about
security.

We thank you all very much for looking for us and for your kind words of
support.

3625  General / Events, Shows etc / NSW All Holden Day on: July 03, 2002, 01:19:07 AM
The NSW All Holden Day will be on 4th August, at Clarendon Showground.  Members who participated last year should have received an application form for the event, but if you don't have one, it can be downloaded from here: http://www.ahd.oldholden.com

Entries close July 5th

However, since we as a club (FE-FC Holden Car Club of NSW) didn't receive stock of entry forms as we usually do, we have been granted an extension until the 12th by the organisers.  We will have forms available at the July 9 meeting, which you will need to post with a cheque the following day to ensure you get in at the standard price (of $26). Entries later than this will be $40, and may not necessarily include goodie bags, shirts etc (depending on availability).

Don't forget that the NSW AHD is the 'official run' for August, so we would like as many members to attend as possible.

D.B.,

I couldn't agree with you more.  You need to get yourself a new handle, BTW.  I hope the disappointment abates Wink  If you haven't seen it, check out the club's Technical section at http://www.fefcholden.org.au/techinfo/index.html.  You'll see we've published a couple of articles there about ways to do certain mods and so on.  I hope to add your article on understanding steering geometry and power steering one day.  Between you and Ken, it doesn't sound like there's much you don't know!

Everyone,
Slanging matches, flame-wars etc not welcome here.  Plenty of that to be had at http://fastlane.com.au's discussion board, if you feel the need :-/
3627  Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: Power Steering v6 on: June 28, 2002, 01:32:52 AM
Guys,

I chose not to stick my oar into this last week, but in light of the fresh posts on the topic.....

Harko,
If you got some answers that helped you, but you can't share them, better to say nothing at all than tell everyone that you're sworn to secrecy.  It's little wonder that people get their back up.  This is a community where people help each other.  Air-Chief is bang on when he says
Quote
What gets me is that some one gets on here and says their found the perfect set up for P/S into FC but can't tell. Why write it in the first place??
I think you did the Disappointed Bloke a disservice by not making clear why you weren't providing greater detail.

Disappointed Bloke,
You know who you are. Harko knows who you are.  And from what you've written, clearly some other members know you as well.  Maybe I do too?  Now I thought that "selfish bastard" was laying it on a bit thick, but for all intents and purposes on this board, you're just some anonymous dude.  Now if Harko had said, "I saw what DB is working on with his conversion kit, and it looks like it will kick arse when it's finished", no doubt the club members who know you would have said to themselves, "Oh DB, yeah, he knows his stuff, I'll look forward to seeing the finished product.", and probably posted something similar. If you have a look around these boards, there's plenty of praise heaped on the people who participate and do or make stuff - Ken McLean's wiper motors for example, or Ed's demisters.  I think you're being a little sensitive, and apart from the "selfish bastard" comment I singled out previously, the other blokes you mention aren't really having a go at you.  Sarge only asked that Harko lean on you to share your knowledge, and it sounds like you had planned to do that at the appropriate time anyway.  I hope you'll reconsider your response to what's been posted here and continue to develop your technical article for our education.  After all, there are 180+ members on this board, and only a handful have taken issue with the whole secrecy thing.

Everyone else,
Please try to avoid being inflammatory.  Rule #1 of forums is "Never post when angry."

3629  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: FC radios? on: June 25, 2002, 11:44:35 PM
I can answer that.  The hole in the guard (or sometimes in the panel between bonnet and windscreen) was always an aftermarket or dealer modification.  From the factory no FE or FC had a radio or an aerial.

So if you're not planning on having a radio, get the panel beater on the job to get rid of the hole!

Actually, the Ute Painter tool has all the FC colours, but in fact the utes were only available in a very limited number of these.  Do a search in these forums for a thread called something like "FC Colours", where Ken listed the complete range of valid ute colour options.

3631  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: FC Ute seat(s)? on: June 25, 2002, 05:31:16 AM
Mate,

Your wife is correct.  No FC of any bodystyle had bucket seats, in fact no Holden prior to the EJ had 'em.  And having said that, I doubt they were an option in any ute until well into HQ-WB era.  I stand to be corrected on the latter, of course.

3634  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: trim codes on: June 15, 2002, 05:33:09 AM
Ed,

The first group of numbers specifies the exterior colours and style.  245 corresponds to "Castle Grey over Etna Maroon", meaning the roof was grey and the body maroon.  The latter colour is always the colour of the front clip (FE or FC) and the former is the other one.

Check out http://www.fefcholden.org.au/techinfo/gmhpaintcodes.html for the details, and also http://www.fefcholden.org.au/techinfo/idplate.html for info on the rest of the ID plate.

This is just my 2c worth, but if the guy pays money to advertise in Parts Peddler, I would think he'd be grateful for a freebie here.  After all, you couldn't ask for better target marketing than this!

Ed, if you speak to the guy, ask him if he minds us publishing his number.  Then ask for a donation  Grin

Actually, I'm not sure these photos do the car justice.  Leon brought it out for its inaugural club outing yesterday for the Blacktown Festival.

It looks terrific in the flesh (or metal).  Good on you, Leon, it's a credit to you.

It must be a red-light special now - today it's going for $50,000  :-/

I like the text that says "17408 miles on speedo, ... been in garage for 14 years".  Note it doesn't say 17408 original miles.

My FE has exactly 13070 miles on the odometer, and is always garaged.  Mine must be worth 50,000 x (17408 / 13070) = $66,595.

Or nearest offer  Grin
