Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Need some Headlights

Went to check out those h-lights and could'nt find any with those windows for parking lights as suggested Ken,
So looking for bright ideas guys. ! Do people clean up old lights successfully ?
griffo. Try headlights from HQ series Holden the series with orange front blinker lenses, not the earlier HQ series with clear blinkers as they had headlamps with the parkers lamp behind them, also the flat H4's you where looking at should come with the hole already for the parker bulbs. Lots of HQ holdens around so a headlamp should not be that hard to find. Found these by looking at the bosch cattle dog on line. http://apps.bosch.com.au/products/saa/sealed_beam.pdfCheck last page of cattle dog Effie C

Dave Not sure where you are but a good start for a new person to this game is to go along to your nearest early holden club and suss them out, if you like them join and usually a wealth of knowledge and help is forthcoming. Also try the search button as a lot of questions have been gone over before and a search will bring forth the well of knowledge also.
Good luck and welcome to the fold (hope you have a good budget to do the car up because you will need it)

I second Dave EH comments, the vic EH site has a lot of usefull information and just like this site it has links to 'how to do it' pages. I would go as far to say the 2nd best car site on the net for our vintage of cars. Effie C

If you arent fussy about being orinigal behind the dash, light switchs from all model holdens uo to HG fit that I know of. I have fitted a HK unit to effie C, the FC shaft and knob fit straight in, just need to change wiring connections. Effie C

There are also an equal amount of shit stirrers, but it is all tongue in cheek. Enjoy your time here and do yourself a favour and join the FE FC club in your state.
Cheers Jim Especially some who live in Qld Effie C

Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Ignition Coil type
|
on: July 17, 2005, 09:46:57 AM

Burnsy Just turn your coil around and connect up with neg to points. Would not have done any harm. Previous owner has not converted car to positive earth has he, pommy cars used to be positive earth and I remember reading years ago that positive earth cars actually rust less then negative earth cars; cars where changed from positive earth to negative earth to suit the growing trend of electronics (new age things called valves etc.) If car still has a generator it is very easy to change from postive earth to negative earth and back again. Just a matter of wiring connections and flashing the residual flux in the generator coil windings. (file this under useless information) Effie C

Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Another question on Ryco oil filters
|
on: July 14, 2005, 12:48:37 AM

Dave Curious as to how the oil gets out of the filter when the motor is running with a check valve installed? Surely if the check valve (one way valve?) is fitted in the return line to stop the oil from draining out when the motor is stopped, then when the motor is running the oil still would still not flow thru the filter, or is there some sneaky way you have installed the check valve? Use an impact screwdriver with the correct size philips head screw bit, you can access the back of the screw from inside the guard the apply WD40 or such. There is a modern hex head replacement available at any specilaty fastener mob. Effie C

Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: Generator/Alternator Conversion
|
on: July 12, 2005, 05:39:44 AM
|
Any internally regulated Bosch alternator from a Holden HQ on wards will do the job, the bigger the amps output the better thou. Units from HQ on basic around 35amps to 55 amp units.
If you search I have posted quite a lengthy answer to changing over from gen to alt before. Good Luck Effie C
