All wiring finished, cam run in and carbs are set.

Just have to sort out a pedal/throttle cable set up and it’s back on the road 😈

G'day Jim,

A quick heads up that Rares has retooled the EK front windscreen rubber. They have some early production ones, which trial fit on their test body pretty well. They are sending one down to Sydney for us, with one of the FB/EK gentlemen volunteering to give it a trial run. Will let you know how it goes.

Cheers,
Harv

Any update on this at all, I need to buy front screen rubber again as I gave mine to someone in a pinch a few months ago.

Things have been a little slow with progress due to life getting in the way but decided to have another crack and get it back on the road for summer festivities.

Firewall notched:

One lick of primer:

A very neat-looking setup.

But I'm curious about the red-motor-mounted, disc-braked FJ front suspension in the background.

Rob

Removed from another project to be upgraded to a USS front end.

For a “bolt on” part these manifolds are bloody terrible.  Lots of work to get these to slip on & off and be able to nip up a bolt.

Quite poor for something that isn’t exactly “cheap”

Motor painted and ready to test fit once the carb set up is finished.

A little over 6 months and we have some progress again with the motor starting to take shape.

I think my daughter will be an only child... 🤣

Motor should hopefully be back together next week ready to test fit and then tackle the wiring mess under the bonnet along with a few other items that need some TLC.

Did they get to trial fit this yet Harv and if so what was the verdict?

You going to bring the chrome back or too far gone? They’ll be tight but look nice.

Chrome is too far gone sadly so will get them blasted/cleaned up and a lick of paint/clear and they will do the job for now.

I got a lead on a pair of 13” dress rings today so hopefully it comes good.

Found a set of 13x8” steelies that need some love but should come up sweet when I’m finished.

Just a quick tidy-up?

I'm willing to bet it'll turn into a paint job.

Rob

No paint job, just a tidy up.  If I repaint the car it defeats the purpose of keeping it a little old & ratty as it currently sits.

No point going to crazy with mods/upgrades as id more than likely have to then have it engineered and defeats the purpose of what I’m trying to achieve with it.

Was using the car as my daily until a few weeks ago when we were going to put a new seal & gasket kit through the motor as the rear main was leaking quite bad from sitting around for 10 years with minimal use.

Motor out and found we had a faulty water pump and broken thermostat housing so decided to pull the motor down to be safe.  Turns out it had never been opened and in amazing condition.

Motor is currently with the machine shop and he was shocked that it had never been opened and all as it was from factory including the plastic timing gears.

It’s getting a quick once over and will be rebuilt to  XU1 spec with the head tickled and will try and source a 390 Holley set up for it.

In the mean time I’m I’m tidying up the engine bay and a few small areas on the car during this isolation & unemployment period so I don’t go stir crazy!!!

Before shot:

Quick elbow grease clean:

Not sure if I want to open the can of worms and cut the small sections of rust out of the guards & doors or just leave it be for now.

Need to replace all door seals and belts, front & rear glass rubbers, boot & bonnet seals etc

Interior needs some love and have already started tidying up the wiring harness and need to work out why the speedo stopped working just before I pulled it off the road.

I will make sure I update with more progress shots soon.

Ben ..See my last image posted ,cars under resto ,I have just done all of that ,the front 1/4 window seals are Rares and went in well..inner door seal is Old Auto ..outer are Rares ..windlacing is Daleys ..they don't offer a metallic thread in the lacing like factory fit..Vern ..

Thanks Vern I’ll check it out.

Hi Ben, there has been no word from Rare Spares regarding the change in the rubbers. Old Rubber Co. only do the rear rubber and use Rares for the front, so you are limited for choice at the moment. You could try Betta Auto Rubbers, but I’m not sure if they use their own or Rares. I’all ring Rares and see if there has been any updates.
Jim

Thanks Jim,

Look forward to hearing what they come back with.

I need to replace the following in my daily:
 - front & rear screens
 - both quarter vents
 - all 4 x doors & wind lacing
 - boot & bonnet

I was going to buy a "kit" but probably wouldn't use half of what's supplied and keep reading mixed opinions on all the suppliers and quality/fit etc...

I'm about to order new front and rear screen rubbers (along with a few others required) and wondering if I should try Old Rubber Co or Rares?

Cheers

Ben

Ben ..Currently doing mine ,windlacing ( flocked )from Daleys here in Sydney ,inner door seals Old Auto Rubbers ,Penrith ..Outer door seals Rare Spares .. ..I note also you can get bailey channel just about everywhere ,Bunnings and Clark Rubber ..I used Old Auto because of the stainless edge ...cheers Vern ..

Thanks Vern,

I'll check out Daley's for the wind lacing as so far I've had no luck sourcing any and wasn't keen on purchasing a "kit" given I won't be using half of it.

Just wondering where everyone has sourced internal flocked seals for FC?

Cheers

Ben
