2  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Harmonic Balancer on: September 29, 2019, 10:08:55 PM
I have fitted a Rare Spares replacement Harmonic Balancer to my FC and now have a vibration when increasing revs from idle at take-off. The balancer was replaced due to oil leaks and that has now stopped. Can someone direct me to a source of reconditioned original balancers please.

Would you please add 2 sandwich packs for Margaret and myself.

We will be arriving in Hobart on 1/4/14 and will be hiring a car to drive around Tassie for a couple of weeks. Would we be able to leave our FC in your shed please Weddo?

Lucie Watson (member 13 NSW) has moved to Townsville to live with her daughter and has just registered with our club for internet access. She has been to a stack of Nats with us and wished to send the message below.

Regards

Glad to hear that Rob and Stirling made it back. We were in Kalgoorlie on 24th and ended up in the Bert st Boulder caravan park but did not see Rob and Stirling. A very interesting trip with a good result.
We attempted to text and call R and S on several occasions without success and are now in Renmark on the home leg (saturday) I hope. Gertie still likes her cup of Penrite once every day or so and I have just done a grease job on her in the caravan park.

Roll on Tassie.

Thanks Gary been there and are now in Nullarbor Roadhouse caravan park. Gertie is humming along with a daily dose of half cup of oil. 1200 ks in the last 2 days.

Thanks Bruce, great job. We are about to do it in reverse. (not reverse gear although it could be a record)

Sorry to hear about the Ambo problems. We are in Busselton checking out the wineries etc and have another few days of travelling in the South West until the return home journey on Monday. Glad to hear you are both home safe and sound. Hope the Ambo and van are handled gently by the transports.

Excelent Nats. Margaret and I have had a great time. Congratulations to WA for a really well organised Nats that was worth every mile of the trip from Sydney.

After the Museum at Whiteman's Park, a Chinese couple and their photographers asked us if they could use "Gertie" in their wedding photos. See attached.

15  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Electronic ignition on: July 14, 2011, 07:38:54 PM
I have fitted one to my FC and am very happy with it. One thing I had a problem with was not getting the plastic piece down far enough over the cam, had to file a bit off the vacuum advance lever which stops the plastic part from getting down to the correct location. The motor never ran so smoothly.
16  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Vacuume Wipers on: July 14, 2011, 07:30:42 PM
I would check the vacuum hose that connects to the wiper motor. My original hose was partially blocked. I replaced it with another hose, it wasn't strong enough and partially collapsed when the vacuum was applied. The new one has thick walls and works OK.
17  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Speedo cable on: May 22, 2008, 09:21:22 PM
I recently fitted a new inner cable to my good condition & well cleaned & lubed outer cable.

The speedo worked for a while then ceased to indicate.  I tried a variety of ideas but the one that worked was to insert a short piece of a nail, similar in size to the inner, into the gearbox drive gear, cable entry.

This had the effect of pushing the cable a little further into the speedo drive receptor. Speedo has worked fine ever since.
I assume that the speedo receptor had been worn a bit at the entry popint.
18  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: windscreen on: May 04, 2008, 07:52:09 PM
i have just refitted all my old glass in Gertie. The ogiginal installation had rubber in the steel channels that didn't appear to have been glued in. (probably originally used uncured rubber)

The rubber was installed onto the glass with about 50 mm extending toward the outside of the door to prevent the channels from rusting (due to water coming down the glass) the glass & rubber were then inserted into the channels.

My channels came away from the glass with carefull pressure from a screwdriver. The channels were then rustproofed & cleaned before installing the glass & rubber with Sikaflex.

The quarter windows were re-installed into the frame using uncured rubber. The uncured rubber is available from Spectrum Rubber & is inserted after wiping the rubber with Turps. The glass goes in very easily & excess can be trimmed off.

The windscreen & rear window were fitted by Ralph Moore for about $250, I provided the glass.

Polyweld did not want to keep the patterns, so I still have them. They are available for use by club members but a deposit will be required to ensure safe return. Will take some pics today to show the results.
20  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: door aligning ??? on: March 17, 2008, 05:50:30 AM
I had the same problem yesterday & it was solved by Mal Owen. He suggested adding a washer under the middle set screw in the top hinge. This had the same effect as bending the hinge & moved the door foward (top front) & up at the back. It is now the best fitting door on Gertie.
