22  Technical Board / General Technical / Torque setting? on: March 18, 2020, 03:37:11 PM
Tried my workshop manual and the ‘intra-web’ but can’t seem to find this figure anywhere.
Question;
What (if anything?) is specified for the 4 bolts joining the intake and exhaust manifolds together?
Thanks,

Looks like I will be leaving the existing crankshaft gear in place and using the copper based grease for insurance against a noisy running in period.
Thanks for the very helpful input, gents.
Chris

Which grease is copper based?

26  Technical Board / General Technical / Timing gears-quick question on: February 08, 2020, 04:35:48 PM
Just swapped  out the fibre timing gear on my Grey motor’s camshaft and replaced it with a new steel one. Question; Does the existing steel timing gear on the crankshaft need to be swapped out for the new one supplied in the kit? Or, if the gear backlash is within tolerance (.003”-.004”), can I leave it on the crankshaft?
Thanks.

I reckon you use a readily available flat star washer which gets pressed in to shape on torque up.

Just make sure you heat the washers before you torque them up😏

I'm looking at your signature block, and am thinking your car should be red over white, with a black flash on one side and a myrtle one on the other Cheesy

Interesting...., but after last night's effort, perhaps I should ditch the black😥

As a fellow 'Granite Grey' over 'Castle Grey' FE sedan owner, my vote is for a 'Granite Grey' flash👍
30  Technical Board / General Technical / Engine oil overfill question on: March 16, 2018, 08:35:04 PM
Hi,
Is (approximately) 300ml of engine oil overfill, too much to leave in my car’s grey motor?
Or is it not really a problem?
Thanks.
31  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Oil bath air cleaner re-fill capacity, spec. on: March 11, 2018, 06:53:11 PM
Makes sense to me. Think I'll wait overnight for all the kero to dry out completely first. Then re-oil both with the SAE 90.
(Might have to use an eye dropper for the oil fill cap).
Thanks, as ever, for your help Ken.
32  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Oil bath air cleaner re-fill capacity, spec. on: March 11, 2018, 03:57:13 PM
Can anyone let me know if you have to re-oil the metal gauze filter elements (in both the carby mounted oil bath air cleaner top cover and the engine rocker cover mounted oil fill cap air filters) after cleaning them with kero?
I assume so.
If so, how much is enough?
Cheers
33  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: My Nasco 4 1/8" diam. rear view mirror needs re-glazing on: March 10, 2018, 09:12:49 AM
Thanks Ken, just as I suspected, but thought it was worth asking the question anyway.
34  Technical Board / Restoration Help / My Nasco 4 1/8" diam. rear view mirror needs re-glazing on: March 09, 2018, 01:06:54 PM
Hi,
Is new mirror glass for these available 'off the shelf' or do I need to get some cut to size?
35  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: Radiators on: March 03, 2018, 03:00:50 PM
Hi,
Need to get a pressure test done on my spare radiator.
Can anyone recommend a good workshop in the inner or south eastern suburbs of Melbourne, who would be able to do the job, and a ‘leak repair’, should it be found to be necessary?
Thanks,
36  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Oil bath air cleaner re-fill capacity, spec. on: February 23, 2018, 01:01:30 PM
Hi,
Need the oil re-fill capacity for the Grey motor's oil bath air cleaner?
Can I use Mobilube HD 80W-90 Trans/Diff oil?
Or would Penrite HPR 50 Engine Oil - 40W-70, be better?
Cheers
The oil bath air cleaner's capacity is about 525-530mls
37  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Oil bath air cleaner re-fill capacity, spec. on: February 20, 2018, 11:50:38 AM
Many thanks again Harv.

Many thanks for that information Harv.
So I will use the Penrite Transoil 90 SAE90 gear oil in the oil bath cleaner and in the gearbox.
What is best for the rear axle, Penrite Mild EP? Undecided

40  General / General Board / Re: Never say never! (light green FE/FC roof lining material) on: March 08, 2017, 04:48:55 PM
This will be the pastel green that came out, a faithful reproduction of the swirly pattern.
Not as popular as the off-white it would seem, but I struggled to sell that until a guy snaffled the last 6 metres for his Chev, the light blue I bought in sold quite quickly.

Hi stinky,
Is this what the Light green vinyl will look like?
