5  For Sale and Wanted / Cars Wanted / WANTED FE Holden Special Sedan on: May 08, 2021, 09:55:00 AM
Hi All
I'm still in the market for a FE special sedan fully restored or in original condition.
I Just missed out on one that was for sale on Carsales this week, unfortunately a guy arrived to look at it before me and he purchased it  Cry.
I understand from seller it was one that appeared on this forum a few years ago, the car was called “Rosie”
So I’m still on the lookout for a Maroon with Ivory roof with red and white interior as it is the exact same model as my father purchased as his first brand new car, same year as Melbourne Olympics 1956.
Sadly, he is no longer with us but as a tribute I'd like to find a good one to have to drive for the lovely memories I have of him.
Prepared to pay reasonable money for one that is in great condition.

Cheers  Grin

Papabear

Gents,

With a heavy heart, due to my work situation, I am now selling my one owner 59 FC Special.

So you guys or girls can look it up, here are the details.
ID. FC-225-24248-S
Trim. 271-632 Venetian turquoise & black
Paint. 256-2048 Pinecrest green
Insert. 256-2038 Duchess green
Chassis number. FC-41896-S
Engine number. L563312

A few points of interest.

The original owner & his wife purchased this new in 1959 in Maitland NSW.
They drove it home to Newcastle where it was used as a daily driver until both of them passed away.
They never owned another car except this 59 Holden.

Original sales receipt
Original key
Original paint (except for a minor repair in the 60’s to the passenger side boot/guard area)
There is also slight damage to the passenger front door the chap did in the 70’s on list front gate.
Original floor and boot rubbers
Original interior
Original spare wheel & tyre (only used a few times according to the original owner)
Optional extras purchased when new, sun visor, weather shield, large clip on rear view mirror, and rear grab rail, as the owners mother was elderly and needed grab rails to get in and out of the car.
The hood lining is green, and so is the back of the rear view mirror (I’ve never seen a colour coded rear view mirror??)
They grey dash top & interior A pillars are like new.
The seats are in good condition with wear to the side tops of the front seat.
Both ashtrays are as new.
Interior is bright & vibrant.
This car lived its whole life under cover.

This car has never had a heater fitted or a radio.
It is still basically the same as when they purchased it 61 years ago.

A real time capsule.
Personal items still in glove box & boot
Car has never been out of rego since 59.
I drive it a couple of times a week.
Drives well, and is a real head turner.

I have done king pins, rear shackle rubbers, tune up, service, and coolant.
Brakes were re done a few years ago, and are working great.

As I can’t post images here, please contact me for further details & many images on
Email: patrick.ryan@udtrucks.com.au
Phone: 0409194725

I am in the Penrith area, and the car is ready at a moments notice if anyone wants a drive.
9  For Sale and Wanted / Parts Wanted / Re: NOS or Refurbished FJ Holden Door Lock Assemblies on: December 02, 2020, 01:40:02 PM
Hi
Know its not FE/FC but anyone know where I can purchase FJ Holden RH (Drivers Side) door lock assembly and Striker Plate.
My unit on FJ being restored will not pass a roadworthy (Not fully catching/locking).
Cheers
Hi
Thanks' to everyone who responded to my request.
I now have an almost new striker plate and very good Drivers door lock assembly.
These will be fitted in coming days.
Once this is completed I'll disassemble the original and see what's required to get it operating/repaired if at all possible.
Cheers

Should add that water pump bearings are universal, just about.  But you'll have to shorten the shaft at both ends to match the dimensions of the original.  The seals are available in many flavours.  The important dimensions are the OD of the seal and its depth.

One other thought: buy a red motor water pump and pull it apart for its internals.

Rob

Good idea, they seem to be more prevalent to obtain, mate has one I'll take a look at one to see what fits. I'm assuming it not just be the bearing but also the seal I'd need once dismantling the pump.

The bearing's turning freely, impeller not corroded: good sign.  Check the diagonal "vent" holes for rusty stains.  If there are none, all is good, and your water pump's good for further use.

I am still running the original, now seventy-year-old water pump in my FX.  I figure I will re-kit it if and only if it gets noisy or leaks water.

Kits are available from Auto Surplus in Melbourne for about $100.00, but you'll need to shorten the shaft so it doesn't stick out forwards of the pulley hub.  The fancy Tool 6A13-1 is a six-inch length of 3" water pipe welded to a base.

Aftermarket water pumps have the following "features": a machined pulley hub which distorts your pulley when you bolt it on, unless you groove the hub with a Dremel to clear the ribs on the pulley; a shaft which sticks out too far at the front (an angle grinder cures this real quick); and bolt holes which frequently don't line up with the block and bend the generator bracket (rectify with file).

Just as a matter of curiosity, is yours still a wide-fanbelt, six-volt FJ?

Yep the belt is an original GOODYEAR V40 but this number doesn't compute with Good Year Charts, looking at commercial use belt for a replacement for memory back in the day we used to use these as they were cheaper than ones sourced from automotive outlets. Vehicle is to remain 6 Volt.
Cheers

Thanks for help

likely that the bottom of the striker needs to be moved

Hi
Checked striker plate but eventually found its actually inside the door lock assembly, thanks for the thought though.

No luck with Auto Surplus as they only sell replacement pumps. Anyone have another suggestions for overahaul kit?
