Technical Board / General Technical / Replacing dash knob surrounds
|
on: June 17, 2023, 11:35:08 PM
|
Hi Gurus, I have a spare set of new dash knob surrounds for my FC. The old surrounds have now got to a point that they are ready to replace. Before I pull the dash fascia out and start this job, what is the best way to remove each knob assembly and body (ignition, wiper, lights, choke) from the fascia as it looks as though each one is attached differently to the fascia? Thank you in advance.

Technical Board / General Technical / Replacement VH44 brake booster
|
on: September 13, 2018, 09:28:51 PM

Hi all, I have purchased a replacement VH44 brake booster for my ‘59 FC, however I have found the location of everything (mounting bolts, vacuum connection, etc) is on opposite sides to my existing booster. Is there any way it can be adjusted so it will fit the same as the existing booster? I have attached comparison photos. Thanks in advance.

Technical Board / General Technical / Under bonnet lining ideas
|
on: April 20, 2018, 07:37:24 PM
|
Hi all, Just after I returned from the Nationals in Canberra the under bonnet insulation lining on my FC came apart and I am just left with the ugly foam stuck to the underside of the bonnet. As a result, I figured it is a good time to explore other options for lining the bonnet other than just replacing what was there. Options I am considering include: * Fitting silver thermal insulated lining * Fitting an alloy "skin" under bonnet * No lining and have the FE/FC era Holden shield logo painted professionally on the underside of the bonnet * Coloured 5D or 6D Carbon fibre lining (no insulation)
I would be interested to hear your thoughts or any other ideas some of you may have used for your cars past or present. Cheers. Anthony.

Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Starting tips for grey motor

Rob, I fixed the choke cable with no result. It was all doing my head in so I took it to Perth Carburettor specialists in Perth. I barely made it there. Couldn't get above 70kph and black smoke belching out the back. Bottom line was the reconditioning originally done on the carby was a backyard job and never done properly. The guy there was excellent. Cleaned and re-conditioned the carby (which is from a 186 red motor), new plugs, lighter gauge accelerator spring, disconnected vacuum advance and it drives like new!!! So much more power so I can see to a point why the previous owner went for a bigger carby. Long term plan is to convert to twin strombergs but for the time being, it has a new lease of life!!! Now have to get used to the power and the lighter accelerator...ha ha. Thanks for all your advice.

Thanks Fraze, I suspect there may be an issue with the fuel pump as when driving at high speed (above 60mph) the engine starts to "starve" for fuel, then when I stop after high speed running at lights, etc, the engine stalls at idle speed and needs re-starting.
