1  Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: Gearbox Crossmember/Chassis Kit. on: Today at 02:06:13 PM
Some photos of the set up I put in the FB ute with 179 and Aussie M15 three speed all synchro box.

Crossmember is modified HT item, shortened and folded.

Front ends weld to no1 body member behind inner subframe leg connectors. Rear angles up and welded to the box seam under the seat.

3  Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: Stedi Lights on: Today at 01:33:56 PM
Yep, I’m the SA guy that got the bangin headlights fitted to my FB ute, originally running factory Bosch lights. They fit in the Bosch buckets just fine. Buckets are same as FC with the addition of three tabs for mounting the covers. The owner of the business fitted them for me and was surprised as he thought the cars all had Lucas lights. They are basically the same format as all the 7” Lucas P7 style but different plug. They light things up very well and draw minimal power. Certainly no need for relays. My only issue is that if one goes you have to replace the entire unit, which would run to $150.

I found a single spring when tidying up recently and would be happy to post it to you if of any use Vern. It will be FB but maybe the same. I’ll post up a pic with some dimensions. I recall front snd rear are different. Been a while since I gave up on stock brakes.

I had not seen anything come up on the forum for a month or so, and thought it had gone quiet. Just realised I was somehow logged out. Phew!

I thought so, but was recently advised otherwise by a reliable source.

Checking the MPC, Terry of course is right. Steering knuckle varies in part number at least, between FE FC, FB EK, EJ EH, and HD (balljoint). Support however, is common FB to HD.

Hi Snoop,
I can’t answer on the backing plates, sorry. I have been looking into running later EJ EH HD kingpin brakes on the front however. They are a much more efficient braking system, being self energising in design. The HD front brakes are even wider than FB etcetera however original FE EH rims have to be replaced with HD HR. Steering arms need to be changed to EJ HD kingpin also. I believe the later backing plates and steering arms bolt straight up to FB, and therefore FE FC front stubs.

I suppose the motor was unassembled, and you distributed it around the FX as previously.

Best keep a close eye on the forecast maximum for Glenelg Rob. If if gets to 34C the day may be cancelled.

Yes. The bolt is the drain. New copper washer recommended on reinstalling.

18  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: Wheels that fit on: December 30, 2024, 06:49:41 AM
I am more familiar with HR disc than original. They tend to be limited in backspace by fouling the outer tie rod end, but also the ball joint end of the top control arm. You can add around 6mm to stock, which added toyour measurement of 95mm gives 4”.

With stock fronts and  particularly 13” rims, they foul during full lock, on the end of the upper control arm, but this can be ground a bit for clearence.

I run nothing wider than 6” rims on front, maintaining legal track, which is not more than 25mm greater than stock. I run custom 13 & 14” steelies, and 14” Sampson Magnums, with between P05 and P10 offsets, which equate to a maximum of 98mm backspace.

I have found plenty of sizes in 13” and 14” tyres. Nangkang have 185/75R13 and 235/60R13. On the 14” rims I run 195/70R14 and 205/60R14. I don’t remember the brand.

No experience with the wheels you mention, but most tend to be available in multiple offsets and getting matching sets or pairs second hand can be fraught. I have a set of13x7” Splatts that were on my wife’s FB when we got it. They have negative offset and are too wide for the front in my opinion. They are over legal track by about 10mm.
