I tow a vintage caravan behind a stock FE. It okay if you're not in a hurry. I cruise at 80-85 until I get to a hill; then take what I can get. I recently did 3200 k mainly up the  Hume and Pacific highways and averaged about 200 k to a tank full. The van weighs in at around 950 kg fully loaded. A friend of mine with an FB gets slightly better fuel consumption with his smaller van.

The thinned down gear puller idea didn't work. Ended up pulling the crankshaft out.
3  Technical Board / General Technical / Crank Gear Removal on: May 01, 2016, 01:06:04 PM
Hi All

I purchased an alloy timing gear set to replace the stripped fibre gear.
Just one problem. How do I remove the crankshaft gear. In the workshop manual they use a puller that screws into a couple of threaded holes in the gear. My crank gear does not have these threaded holes. How do I remove it now??
Looking forward to your assistance.

Who do I contact for the Speco steel gear please?
7  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Timing gear set on: April 24, 2016, 05:34:51 PM
Thanks all. The Ebay gear is an alloy set. What are my chances of getting a steel set? As I believe that these are more reliable than the alloy set.

Hi all,

I've just stripped another fibre timing gear. I'm running a deadstock grey.
What is the better replacement option?
Another fibre gear?
Alloy gear set
All steel gear set
And where can I get what I need?
Thanks all in anticipation.

I tow a vintage van behind my FE. I ran additional wires back from under the dash.

Some more numbers for Ken.

FC ute rotting away under some pine trees. Too far gone to get the body number.
FC 2106-5843M
Trim 194-649
Paint 256-2051

Here is another interesting plate. It was on a FE sedan even further gone then the FC ute and I couldn't read it nor get a clear photo of it. So I asked the owner if I could have it.
After careful cleaning this is all that's on it.
Remember it's of an FE sedan.
The ONLY number on the plate is
Body Identification No 7406190-17
NO other trim or paint numbers. What does this mean? A rebodied sedan?

Cheers
