1  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Nuts and Bolts for FC ute.... on: December 17, 2009, 02:03:44 PM
Hi members....

I am in the process of restoring my FC ute and a number of the bolts from the body have to be replaced. Is there anywhere I can buy a kit with all the nuts/bolts to put my FC back together. I know you buy rubber kits etc but what about bolts??

Thanks

Greg
2  Technical Board / General Technical / Radio wiring diagram. on: July 20, 2008, 07:49:52 PM
Hi members....
I'm back after a long layoff and the FC ute is ... well .... a work in progress. I have found the original AWA radio from the ute and I was wondering if anyone had a diaram to wire it up??
The female plug underneath the set has 5 holes and I need to know which is positive etc so I dont stuff it up...

Thanks
Greg
3  General / General Board / Re: Proof of Ownership... on: June 26, 2007, 09:59:53 PM
Thanks members...
I just wanted to get some advice  if there was a "proper" way to get around the no receipt issue.
Anyway... You wouldn't believe it ... this morning I was working on the glove box area ... and I "found" the receipt.. Well bugger me....

Thanks for your help. That is one less problem I have to worry about. Now I can concentrate of the 50,000 other problems we all encounter whilst restoring an FC..

Cheers
Greg.
4  General / General Board / Proof of Ownership... on: June 25, 2007, 04:46:45 AM
Hi members...
I am currently in the process of restoring my FC Ute. We all know this takes the unlimited pouring of money into vehicle which will hopefully be finished one day. Whilst I was doing some work on the vehicle the other day I was wondering how can I prove that I own it?? The ute was purchased by me about 15 years ago from a person who's name I can not remember. It had not been registered since 1979. I was given a receipt for it but that was lost years ago. I was thinking if I go to the RTA to register the ute I don't really have any proof of ownership for it. I don't want to get to the stage where I cant register it because I don't have a bill of sale or similar. Does anyone know how to get around this... or will a 'stat dec' suffice??
Thanks
Greg

Hey Mark....
Where is this servo that's going to be going to be selling cheap fuel in 2008? ie. $2 per litre..
I'm thinking the way things are - it will be above $2 in the not too distant future. I guess I will just have to give up beer... NOT.
Cheers

G'day RET..
No. My FC doesn't have that badge on it. I've checked and there are no holes or marks where the badge may have been. I just can't see what it reads. Can you tell me? Also do you know the history of the ute in the photo that you posted? Is it an FE of FC and are the strips original or were they added during restoration? It would be interesting to see if my ute was built around the same time as the one in the photo. Perhaps Holden may have had a few sets left over from wagons so they put them on a couple of utes?
Thanks RET..

Greg

G'day Ken..
I've checked the strip and it is in one piece from the door all the way to the tail lights. I have the complete set ( the piece missing in the picture is inside the cab). They are in perfect condition except for a well overdue polish. I didnt know that the strips were so rare on a ute. I have checked the history of the ute back about 30 years and have found that the strips have always been on it. Just by looking it's probably a factory original. The body identification plate tells me that it is a ute (of course. ie 2106) and it is the 4508th utility produced in Melbourne. It's also fitted with a heater which also appears to be either a factory fit or fitted soon after manufature. Did they put heaters in vehicles off the productiion line?
This new info has given me more determination to get into it...
Thanks..... Greg aka Chisel..

Members...
Well here it is.. My old FC Ute just prior to being removed from the farm for restoration. As you can see it's nearly ready for registration.. Just pump up the tyres and a few other minor things and I should be right....right??

Seriously, It's on its way but it will be a long road. I see that it has got an FE bonnet attached but the original bonnet is in the tray area so it will be swapped when I get around to it.

As I said in earlier posts i have a spare FE special sedan and another FC ute to use for parts so i should be able to save the ute at the expense of the other two.
I just wanted to know if the chrome strips on the side of the ute were common extras? I have only seen strips on Specials..
Thanks for the great site and I look forward to the challenge ahead and annoying you with restoration questions.
Cheers.... Greg aka Chisel.
PS..Sorry about the size.. Hey RET how do I post smaller pictures Huh Wink

10  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Acid bath??? on: April 01, 2006, 01:33:24 AM
G'day members...  Today will go down in history. Today is the day I officially start on the restoration of my FC ute which has been back on my farm since 1987. Now that I'm older and wiser I thought that it was time to get the poor old thing back on the road for it's 50th birthday. (Must be a mid-life crisis!!)  Grin It was last registered by it's previous owner in 1983. (photos to come soon).
I have decided to start from the rear end basically due to the fact that I don't know if I want to stick with original grey motor or convert to HR/red motor front. I guess time will tell.
I was just wondering what (if any) is the best acid to use to bath parts in? the spare wheel door is in good condition however has rust in between the two layers and I want to clean it out prior to painting. Any ideas?
Thanks and I look forward to seeing some of you when I attend our first meeting.
Greg... aka Chisel
PS... May god give me strength...... and beer!!!
11  General / General Board / Re: COLD CHISEL -  FC UTE ! on: February 22, 2006, 09:38:44 PM
Thanks for the welcome. I got the FE sedan from an old Chrysler dealership not long after I bought the first FC ute. It was in very poor condition as it had been in his back yard for about 20 years. Lots of rust in the floor and boot area. The roof had another car sitting on top of it!!! But all the windows and front doors are good. The reason I got it was to salvage the subframe from it as the ute's frame had significant rust in it. The dash board and instruments were also in good condition as to were the "Special' badges. So basically the FE is for spares. I will organise some photos to be posted as I am going to keep a photographic chronology during the long restoration process...... God give me strength!!!!!
Regards.....

Hi. Cold Chisel are my favorite band as can be seen by my forum name. I saw the Flame Trees film clip in 1984 and as such a couple of years later I purchased an FC ute from an old farmer who used it to round up sheep. It cost me $100. Several months later I got another FC ute (not going) from a mate for $150 then an FE sedan for $40 (yes forty dollars.) They have sat on our farm since then with out any work being done on them... Until now. I have always promised myself that I would do up the FC to look like the one on Flame Trees - so now that I am 37 years of age - I think its time to restore old 'Chisel". I guess I will be a regular contributor to this site from now on. Stay tuned...
Thanks.... Greg
