What are caliper adapters and where would I find a set to suit my application? I must sound a bit of a novice as I haven,t heard of them before how hard are they to fit ,does that mean I don,t have to remove my drum stubbs at all? Your input is greatly appreciated thanks ED.

Does anyone have a set of HR stub axles to suit disc brakes they would like to part with? I have a complete HR disc brake front end but don,t want to dismantle it for the stubs as I have a HR front in my ute but it,s only got drums on it and am going to convert it to torana disc,s.

Mark,I've done the same swap in my ute.the fitting off the brake backing plate on the fc is different to the hr but you need the outer sheath from the fc to mount to the body.I don't know how legal it is but I cut the end of my fc cable and hr one swapped all the bits to suit mounting etc and used a bit of 3/8 rod about the same length as width with a hole the size of the cable drilled through it and silver soldered it back onto the end and it works just fine just make sure you double check the lengths when cutting etc. Brett

Thanks a Heap Richard! I'm now able to seriously look into finally getting around to upgrading to a HR front end and putting the disc brakes on, so this info comes in very handy. Cheers.

When a front end is modified to fit an EH, can it then be re-modified to fit an FC, or does making it fit an EH make it unsuitable for FC?

Car has mostly surface rust, what's the best product to use to ensure rust doesn't come back? Currently trying "Septone" Rust Convertor but a bit sceptical of the product.

Trent - the conversion was done by the previous owner. A red was put in which from what little I understand doesn't require any body restructures. The trimatic has a structure built under it to support it. It is basically two arms going down and alongside the gearbox, and an arm under the box. The major problem was that in Vic this is ok, in Qld we needed to reweld in the crossmember section that was cut out to fit the gearbox in (about a foot of metal) it comes up through the floor about 5-10cms. Depending on where you are I think the rego rules change. For some reds you need to upgrade the front brakes at least to Drums. This requires replacing the front end with a HR front end, and upgrading the rear drums. This shouldn't be too hard since you'll have the engine and trans out anyway.. I guess. Vic - Ours sits on 180 when it's cooler, usually it's been on 190-200 the past few days in sunny Brisbane. We run the usual engine fan as well as the thermo fan, and it seems to just stabilise the car at 180-200 degrees farenheit. By the looks of things I may have to replace the radiator with one of the same size in the hope that the old radiator is not working properly.

Richard. Thanks for the comments about the gearbox. A mechanic we spoke to today told us that if you have a grey motor you can use a hydramatic but you have to balance the motor to suit the gearbox because it sits on "sideways" Sounds weird to me but he sounded like he knew what he was doing :-)
