2  General / General Board / Re: SHES ACE on: April 02, 2011, 05:23:01 PM
FE 4 ME ,the stance that She's Ace has was pretty common to Australian drag cars running both Gas (and in She's Ace case )Modified Production classes back around the late 60's and the 70's. The Nose up stance had its origins in the early sixties (USA) where the thinking was that this assisted in transferring weight over the rear wheels giving better traction.Though technology and different lines of thought have made this set up redundant ,to many it is the classic look of the golden era of drag racing.

Thanks for the replies fellas.
Anyone else that can throw light on this feel free to have a say.I am pretty sure it is a late model one as FE_225 suggests, and my mate is pretty sure that it was never run.
Cheers

5  General / General Board / Norman Supercharger on: December 05, 2009, 04:35:49 PM
The latest Street machine magazine Hot Rod Annual 2009 (see Alex's (customFC)  post) features a section on various model Norman Superchargers and the people that have run them.
Well, last weekend a mate of mine rolls up to my place announcing that he has some speed parts that need moving on and mentions that he has a Norman Supercharger , he was unaware of the current magazine article. So I go over to his place to take photos of the blower as I know that they are pretty cool bits of speed equipment ,both for go and for historical reasons. He ended up letting me take it home to show another friend who is interested.
Can anyone ID what model it is and the year/s of manufacture,It seems to match up with the Norman Brochure Alex posted here:
Norman Supercharger brochure
There are no markings as such except for an "A" stamped on the vane housing and of course the name Norman cast in the end housings. The fins are extrusions ,not cast
Also does anyone know what the market value is  (i am informed by the present owner that he got it from the son of a bloke who never ran it)and how streetable is this version as the vanes are  phenolic and the inner housing seems to have a teflon type coating
Here are some pics (brown marks that appear on inlet and outlet faces are bits of oiled paper used to seal the blower for storage)
Cheers RM

10  For Sale and Wanted / Parts Wanted / Re: FC sub-frame on: June 27, 2009, 04:55:35 PM
G'day , I have a good straight FC subframe and cross member complete from axle to axle except for drums and sway bar.Only down side is someone cut a 5"x 2"hole in the sheet metal  that supports the radiator to take a nasco air intake snorkel for some type of accessory
I'm in the ACT and you can shoot me an email
rene@thylacine.com.au  if interested.cheers
11  General / General Board / G'day from a new bloke on: June 27, 2009, 04:31:38 PM
Thought as I just joined,I better introduce myself .
I'm a 47 year old bloke who is slowly trying to turn 3 FC's into one good one.
Basically building my wife an early 60's "traditional" mild custom car .It's taking forever and, will take a bit longer.Car is at the moment half dismantled ,any unboltable panels are now bare metal at work. I got the bonnet louvred by a local  Hot rodder ,and the plan is to have paint in a flat dark green with a 'flake forrest green roof ,and candy burnt orange flames (single row) over the front wheel arch and along above the sill panels. Engine will be slightly warm ,dual carbs, cam and extractors ,but will run the single carb while running the engine in.
So here's a pic to show a bit of the detail thats going into this car. This is the stock inlet manifold deburred and polished ,with a finned heat exchanger cover I machined up at work. For a bit of zing  some engine turning was added, using some red scotchbrite punched from a linisher belt and hot glued it to a used "roloc " disc fitted to the roloc mandrel  . A milling machine (digital read out made life easy) was used to lay down the turns.
Cheers for now
