lol, no offence taken at all. I understand that this is for Fe FC owners, ive posted the link to my cars albums on photobucket, im sure there will be a number of people who appreciate them, other than that i dont think ill make many more posts regarding the EJs or HR other than in relation to the Grey motor, i dont expect any help but ill appreciate it. Ive been on the site a lot in the last few days (procrastenating from study for my uni exams) and i am thoroughly enjoying reading through the real rides and restore/modification sections. Anyway, i hope this doesnt start an argument, it was definately not intended to but at least having become a member you guys know who i am and what i am about rather than posting as a guest.
cheers Zac

hey everyone, be warned no Fe's or FC's on this link yet but if youd like to have a look at my EJ's and HR your more than welcome. THe yellow EJ Special (hopefully by the end of next week) will be running a pretty stock 179 with polished Alloy THomas rocker cover and manifold with twin strommies, Eh front end till i source a HR disc one, Aussie 4 speed with modified shifter and spitfire 13x7s. i am considering respraying this myself but still undecided. The Blue/Grey Ej is under long term resto but will be restored to original but hopefully with some nasco extras (rear wheel spats if i can get some) factory colour respray, interior redone factory colour and style, standard wheels rechrome or replace, rebuilt 138 with crash box. THe HR is a white premier (originally with a vinyl roof) removed recently by previous owner. Im going spend a fair bit on it. reupholstered interior in leather (still deciding on colour, Tan, brown, black?? any ideas??) i need to source a center console and rear left door scuff plates) . respray in white maybe with a pearl, hopefully picking up some new ANsen 13x7s today. all new Speco(or other) gauges, rechromed everything(eventually), premier badges will be gold. Apparently it has a 3.08 diff. It has a supra 5 speed box with four finger clutch. 186 HP block that was full worked a few years back, not sure of all the internalsyet but it is bored out a bit, yella terra head with roller rockers, Holley 650 double pumper with vac secs, Garret Turbo (T3T4 or T04e im not sure), holden manifold with alloy plenum chamber, waste gate, into a straight through 3 inch exhaust, VL turbo fuel pump, oil cooler. to do list = Desert cooler radiator, twin 12inch thermo fans, electric water pump. LOL, sorry to blab on here is the link: http://photobucket.com/albums/c353/tassie_ejsThey might not look much atm but i am a perfectionist and close enough isnt good enough so when complete they should be awesome. Cheers ZAC

hey, thanx fellas. yeah im in Hobart 4Hammers, was looking at some of your cars on the net earlier, very nice. I have my last uni exam on Monday then plan to spend the next four months earning money and then spending money on the cars. Id love some of those $$$ bolt on bits but i hear they are rare as hens teeth! Im lucky though as my dad helps me a fair bit (ex-fitter&turner) with the mechanical side a well as with the $$$ Im only 18 so im in no hurry, i just want to enjoy the experiance of restoring a car (in my case cars)and learning along the way. I think ive caught an Old Holden bug or something, its turning into a way of life...i love it...lol
cheers again...Zac

Technical Board / Modification Help / Grey motor rebuild
|
on: October 29, 2005, 04:19:40 AM

hey everyone, well after punching a few numbers ive come to the conclusion that the worked 138 i want for my yellow EJ at $3850 is a long way of. In the meantime i plan to rebuild the 138 in my blue/grey EJ myself to original specs as im restoring her to original, although im considering twin carbies. I am on a tight budget but want to replace everying that is showing signs of age to get her running like she did nearly 44 years ago. Do any of you guys have any cost saving tips, hints, ideas, cheap parts or know of people or companies with reasonable prices. I would appreciate any help
cheers Zac

Technical Board / Modification Help / grey motor mods

Hey everyone, got a quote back in regards to a worked 138... almost dropped my drink....$3850.... is this about what i should expect to pay. It sounds good on paper, how do u rekon it will perform. My mate had the same ppl work the 138 in his FC, unfortunately its a work in progress so i dont know how it goes but they started it up when they first got it home and apparently it sounded great and purred like a kitten. These are the mods: bored crank ground new pistons, rings, bearings, full balance modified cyl. head wth larger valves, heavy duty valve springs, ported & polished. 35-75 camshaft & steel timing gear, lightened flywheel extractors twin stromberg carbys alloy rocker cover chrome sideplate cover electronic distributor graphed to suit reco hi pressure oil pump
i dont have much (any really) experience with grey's, i know that parts a rarer than for the red so i would expect prices to be higher. what do u guys rekon about this setup...ie power?
cheers Zac

hey guys, im currently saving for a new 138 to replace the 179 in one of my Ej's, the new motor will have: bored crank ground new pistons, rings, bearings, full balance modified cyl. head wth larger valves, heavy duty valve springs, ported & polished. 35-75 camshaft & steel timing gear, lightened flywheel extractors twin stromberg carbys alloy rocker cover chrome sideplate cover electronic distributor graphed to suit reco hi pressure oil pump
all up over $3850..is this to much, how much power should i expect from this and would i lose reliability?. Im also after some alloy parts for my cars. I have a passion for Thomas alloy gear (maybe because my last name is thomas) and i have a rocker cover and manifold on the 179 and am in negotiation for another rocker cover for a 186 in a different car. i would however like some thomas gear for my 138's...i have seen a few manifolds around the place but am yet to find a rocker cover, i currently have a speco alloy cover. Does anyone have or no of anyone with any Thomas gear for sale, it will be going to a good home,
cheers, Zac

hey guys, This is my first post on the site but i have been reading others for months now and have learnt heaps. I dont actually own a 50s holden but i have 2 EJ specials, and an HR premier. i am currently restoring one of the Ejs to totally original..the other EJ will have slight mods (HR disc front end, 179, 4-speed, mags etc. My Prem has a 186HP bored -192, Yella Terra head with roller rockers, modified cam, pistons etc. Holley 650 double pumper, garrett turbo with alloy plenum and holden inlet with wastegate and 3inch exhaust, it also has ethanol injection, supra 5speed and 3.08 diff. Unfortunately i havent had it running yet as it still needs a bit of work but i cant wait. My next car will hopefully be an FC as i have always had a soft spot for them but i need to finish these projects first. Hope i can learn lots of u guys and maybe even contribute some, especiallyin regards to the mighty grey.
cheers, Zac
