Hope to start putting some paint on the ute tomorrow. Going to paint with guards, doors etc off car then fit up. The bolts, various screws etc that hold the bits on, are painted once the parts are fixed in position or are they plain metal or plated?

Technical Board / Restoration Help / Non Setting Mastic?
|
on: October 09, 2004, 08:55:39 AM
|
Any one know of brand names for NSM? Removed the side plates of the ute tub and these have some kind of mastic applied (still pliable after 45 years) Been suggested to use windscreen sealer but too messy and tends to harden. Any thoughts?

Whats the best/easiest way to remove 40 year old glue from door shuts? Tried petrol, heat, scrape all work but a bit tedious. Any ideas or is it just hard work?

Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: Complete Respray

My problem is the rubbers as they are hard to mask successfully so you paint then you still have to remove the doors to fit the rubbers Catch 22 then refit the doors and damage the paint!!!!!! Another thing is it best/easier to refit the glass, regulator etc with the door off, which makes it heavier and harder to fit. So much fun. Nick

Technical Board / Restoration Help / Complete Respray
|
on: June 13, 2004, 11:55:26 AM

What is the best way to go about a complete respray inside/outside? 1 Remove doors guards etc and paint off the car ? 2 Paint interior then refit doors/guards and paint outside?
If method #2 used do you fit the rubbers before you paint the out side and mask them up? I would prefer to paint disassembled but am worried will damage paint when lining panels up Doors needs to be removed when fitting rubbers? Any thoughts?

Technical Board / General Technical / Headling "stiff"
|
on: May 06, 2004, 12:55:14 AM

I noticed the headling on the ute is getting hard and feels like it will crack if too much movement also it seem to be shrinking?? This is happening to the lower corners of the rear window. There is a slight water leak which has caused the problem. Is there any product I can use to soften the material? Acetone comes to mind? Any thoughts.

Thanks for all the help. Settled for a bit of a compromise door position pretty good but shuts with a slight "thump". Will have a look round for some hinges that don't have so much movement.

Need to pivot the door upwards to the rear can get the perfect fit by lifting the striker plate/ latch ? but hard to shut . Just stripped the 3 bottom threads can I tap these out and fit bigger bolts. Sometimes it is better to leave things alone!!!! Ken will you have a stall at the Geelong swap? Thanks for the help

Technical Board / General Technical / Scratch Plate Security ???

on: April 01, 2004, 01:59:50 AM

Is it worth fitting the scratch plates to an every day driver, Had a grille badge stolen and thought the plates might be targeted, or am i being paranoid?? Are the plates easy to obtain and what are they worth? If they are fitted is there any way to make them harder to steal? as it appears you would be able to prise the of quite easily. Any thoughts?? Thanks

Just compared the Rare Spare trim clips to the few originals . Nothing like them also they all seem to be too small for the trim. Any one used these? Would post pics but dont know how? Help appreciated.
