724  For Sale and Wanted / Cars For Sale / Re: $30,000 FC on: October 23, 2004, 09:39:18 AM
my theory is the older the car, the more it is worth modyfying, and the newer it is the better it is to keep it standard.
if I had a dollar for everytime someone told me my car would be worth a mint if it was all original I would be a millionare.
next time you are looking at cars for sale compare modified versions to standard.
A 2003 corolla or pulsar with a fully sick exhuast, subwoofers, lowered, mags, pod air filter etc. will be lucky to get any more than a grand less than your nannas stocker, on the other end of the scale if you take a look at cars around 70 years old, unless they are some rare limited production exotic, they seem to fetch four to five times the amount of stockers in the same model, I agree that if you are going to do so much work to a car that it's only worth doing it if your keeping it till the end.
I once had a friend with a FC sedan that he hotted up when he was young and then spent a fortune restoring it when he got older, having original vinyl recoloured by a place in victoria several times till he was sure it was the same as day one, rechroming all the badges, grill and bars, taxi rail, air cheif, nasco everything, start adding up the sums now, the colours were then matched to factory on everything and the body painted. the end result was a car that looked like the next stocker in line at car shows but with different colours.
Dont forget, a good running efi 5 litre V8, or a rebuilt hot red costs around the same as rebuilding a standard grey. and you can now get a CD/mp3/DVD player for about the same money as a air cheif radio, a four speed for less than the price of a crasher, and it is cheeper to weld up the badge and trim holes than fetch good trim and rechrome the badges. I bet there are resto jobs out there that cost the same or more that would pull less money than this modified.

While the shot of the roof of looks like a fj joined to a taildragger, the other shot looks like a bit it has more cars haked up, is that a 40 ford ford roof with the edges ground round. After seeing some of these cars on this forum Im thinking of having a go.
I have been getting back into 1/64 scale slot cars of late and its pretty easy to cut these things and super glue them back together how you want, or when the kids squash one you just glue the roof on a bit lower.
The cars available are simular styles to what hot wheels and johnny lightening offer, infact half of them are hot wheels and johhny lightening with some hot wheels cars beeing actual replicas of their die cast partners such as twinmill and 40 ford pickup.
aliminium rims are available with silicone, rubber or foam tyres as well as quite a large range of plastic rims wich ofen have detail down to wheel nuts, prices range from $1 US a pair upto $16 US for a set of aliminium racing mags, cheaper sets of aluminium rim sets are available for drag racing wich dont have independant rotating front wheels and would probably look neat on a die cast car. there is also a large range of tyre sizes and even different colors and compounds, narrow and wide, some with good year lettering raised on the side wall
I dont know yet how to post pics on this forum but if you want a idea of what some of these cars look like I can send some pics.
Hope to see that FJ sled finished soon the rear seems to be getting a nice shape

Norm
You bring the fire arms and Ill bring the flame throwers and well have our selves a ball with the air riffle sniper.
Thats rite, to all you prospective members you can relax, its only a air riffle, and if you can and check out the meeting tonight and he shows up and you catch him. This will be your oportunity to get on the news as a hero, Just think of what your mates will say.
Latest news is that he is in a white van.
I cant remember if it was in fairfield or on fairfield road that he was attacking.
Craig wilson rang the smorning (this morning)and I asked what suburb the meeting was in, he answered faifield so I guess Im not the only one confused about the suburb of the meetings.

See some of ya's tonight.
728  General / General Board / Re: Fairfeild sniper on the loose on: January 13, 2004, 01:48:05 PM
Sorry, I always thought of it as fairfeild, They both have a D in them and I'm sure Ive seen fairfeild signs around there. I dont think it would be to far to walk but. If we catch him at the meeting it would be good publicity for the club, is there any way to lure him.
plan is, if we are standing in a group out the front and one of us get shot, we split up and run in opposite directions. that way one of us will probably find him.
Dont forget he could be shooting from the boot of a modified car like the fella in the US, we should all bring our switchblades with us for when we catch him.
I guess Im dreaming, and he wont show
729  General / General Board / Fairfeild sniper on the loose on: January 13, 2004, 12:46:54 PM
I just Saw on the news were a sniper is on the loose in fairfeild, He has shot 8 people in faifeild today. I hope he doesnt shoot at cars since many of us NSW guys will be parked at fairfeild tomorow night for the club meeting.

I take it thats one of those HO scale EH holden Bricklayer sticker sheets, I couldnt imagine him painting that rare spares sign with a brush, you guys must spend a bit of money on these things but I suppose limited and higher detailed variations of these cars are always dearer anyway.
what kind of wheels are they?

732  Galleries / Members' FEs and FCs / Re: Black or Yellow on: January 12, 2004, 07:57:13 AM
I think the yellow for its history, after all, It was yellow when I was a primary school kid drooling over it at the Blacktown festival.
The yellow wont blend into the blacktop so much when all the other racers look into the rear vision mirror to see you screem up behind them before passing them, gives em time to make space.

looks like its got good potential to be a wild kustom, a nice one to get stuck into with the hacksaw. Imagine how rare it would be as the 1 and only known kustom wyn toy tin EH. Grin

Cool, Australias Own Tail dragger, How much matchbox has been grafted to the front? I wonder how the American hot wheels collector would view this.
735  Galleries / Little Cars - Members' Model FEs and FCs / Re: Latest HW's custom Hot Rod on: January 11, 2004, 01:49:21 PM
Hey Alex,
Do you think the geeky designers at Tomica would have imagined their car ending up like that.
Have you ever considered HO scale slot cars, you can race them at home and spend over a hundred bucks on go fast hop up parts, software is available freeware on the net to set up a track computer using a cheap old obsulete PC that has windows 95 or higher on it, this will give you a simular set up to what you get at a commercial track but you race for free. You can even set up a drag strip using two sensors in the track and it will cost you under $20 to make the interface and sensor wich are ifra red and better than most commercial tracks that still run dead sections. for hopped up motors you will need to use aftermarket power supplies and some commercial track type controllers such as those made by parma that you buy at a track. Aroura AFX model motoring dates back to the late 50's and you can run the old 50's Aroura vibrator cars on the latest AFX track and vise versa.
HO slot cars are making a big come back in the states and a majority of the fans are those who had sets in the sixties but now have the money to build their dream cars and tracks.
Due to this, most racing is done with Aroura T-Jets wich were the Aroura cars used in the 60's, these things handle like crap and are quite slow but they usually are treated with hop up equiptment to improve these characteristics.
With the popularity of the T-Jet cars NOS(New old stock) T-Jet stuff is coming from everywere including complete cars, And if you want to customise a car you dont have to hack up no origional 60's and 70's Antiques becuase companies like Johnny lightening are also in on the T-Jet thing and making reproductions of most models. Johnny Litenning also make these with a magnatraction replica chassis and a cheaper version is also avail on a pull back car chassis that you can clip onto your AFX Chassis. some body styles include a 57 chevy nomad, 41 Willy's gasser coupe (also available as a yellow MOON special), 54 corvette nomad, 57 corvette. 33 willys panel pan, Dodge little red wagon, 64 VW pick up, 59 el camino, 34 ford, and heaps more stuff like that, many are also available in candy chrome wich may be a bit had to customise, you can also add some aliminium racing mags or a set of standard t jet rims with skinny tyres that look like cross ply's, chrome steelies or painted steeliesor many of the various custom aftermarket rims on the market for these cars, silicone racing tyres, hi po traction magnets, independant rotating front axles and light weight lexan bodies are used to improve handling.
The light weight clear lexan bodies were not around in the 60's but there are some pretty cool variations with these to such as a 49 ford leadsled, 50 buick leadsled, 55 chev nomad, 57 chev drag body,49 mercury, 40 ford woodie etc. I will have some of these lexan bodies for sale on my site in a week or two for about $4.50 each, they are some of the harder to get bodies and I have a feeling the merc body is no longer available.
It would be good to see some old holden bodies but unfortunately HO scale has never been big here, however and as you probably know you can get a EH, FJ, HK, LX,HQ,VB,VL,VN all inthe larger scale that is commonly used here in Australia on commercial tracks.
Although these cars are called HO they are actually a bit bigger, very close to the size of a hot wheels car, infact I have seen some cars using bits hacked of hotwheels cars and they seem to fit up well such as the engine from a metrorail. repro grills, bumpers, windows etc are also getting popular and sell for about $4.99 US a peice to HO slot car restorers.
Just thought I might drop you the Idea, im gonna go cut some laps now with my chopped 2 door 57 chevy sedan in the back room. or should I do some work on my original 60's aroura 57 nomad, nah its time to hit the track with my Rod.
see ya
736  General / General Board / Re: NSW Club Christmas Party pics. on: December 29, 2003, 08:47:40 AM
I purchased my bullets from smooth cruizin in Queensland by COD, These guys have a lot of custom bits for early holdens like tail lights, fibreglass skirts and frenched FE FC headlight surrounds, the bullets are also listed in the John's Rod & custom catalogue and come from MOON in USA who prpbably get them from somewhere in china.
Now that the Dollar is strong it may also be worth pricing them directly from MOON.
They come in various sizes so if you are going to get some, work out what hubcaps / wheels you are gonna run.
I have EJ hubcaps with a hacked up valiant 14" trim ring over 13" HR rims, it just about looks one peice from a distance, they seem to make wheels like tasmans look pretty flash too.
I paid $52.00 for the pair.
737  General / General Board / Re: LEAD REPLACEMENT PETROL PRICES on: December 22, 2003, 01:03:04 AM
Remember when petrol was red.
I never really noticed much difference in the change from Leaded to LRP, at first I thought LRP was lead reduced petrol but then I noticed it was lead replacement, its also a different colour.
What really shitted me was that I have been hunting around for the best prices when ever I put fuel in but I have only recently started looking at the actual price on the bowser of LRP, as I said in my last post, I found a cheap advertised ULP price on the sign out the front but the LRP was about 8 or 9 cents dearer than the ULP.
prior to this I was under the impression that the cheaper the ULP price, the cheaper the LRP.
I went to BP at seven hills wich had a higher price on the sign out the front but the LRP was cheaper as it was only about 4c dearer per litre than ULP.
I didnt know that super was 98, I thought it would have been 96, I am running much higher compression than a standard HC red and I find it a pain in the arse to get the timming in a spot were it will be easy to drive on LRP.
I used to sometimes buy BP 100 or add octane boosters but they stoped selling the drums of one hundred and  after a while I noticed that the booster wasnt really making much difference for what it cost, I also ended up getting married and getting kids and stuff and had to use a more cost friendly way to transport the family around.
I have the most problems when I have just gone through somewere like parramatta were I had to sit in heaps of traffic, and the some winged rice burner eggs me on for a drag at the lights. and I take of leaving clouds of smoke and pinging away.
I haven't really noticed much my self but I have heard from others that LRP is filthy crap that leaves shit in your heads and stuffs your plugs and therefore they are using ULP. my car goes better on LRP than ULP, or thats what I noticed from both times I tried ULP.
I have used pulp at shell many times and been pleased with the noticable difference wich comes at a pretty dear price,(I dont mean to plug shell there and I was sure a few years ago that shell super was crap) but when ever I tried it from BP down the road here it actually seemed to ping more on PULP than the LRP so I only ever get pulp from shell now rather than experiment with all the different servo's.
Personally I think that if there isnt a set difference in price between ULP and LRP the LRP price should always be advertised, there are usually more than one slot for a price in the signs, and there is probably the same or more cars running on super than deisel or LPG.
Any way, a good thing is I suppose that fuel is cheaper now than I thought it would be by now. I remember filling my tank the night before GST came in becuase everyone said fuel would be dear once GST came in, It was pretty busy at the servo with everyone trying to get their bargain pre GST fuel @$1.01, now here we are years later and fuel is still cheaper than it was the night before we got GST.
As for keeping the fuel in the tank fresh, I never new anything about that before but I am usually running on empty or putting in fuel once or twice a day (reduces the chance of losing fuel at roundabouts) although I do tend to fill it enough to last the next couple of days(and take the roundabouts slower) on Tuesdays when petrol must be cheaper to make (LOL) Unfortunately the little tank in a FC doesnt last very long but its probably a good thing if the fuel quality doesnt keep in the tank.

About those inline lead adder thingos, do they increase octane or just add lube?
But are they phasing out LRP by uping the price?
I know octane levels would not really matter much to those with standard greys as ULP is probably like avgas in a grey compared to standard fuel.
Thanks for the info Brad, I knew there would be someone in the industry using this forum.
738  General / General Board / LEAD REPLACEMENT PETROL PRICES on: December 20, 2003, 01:40:12 PM
I remember seeing on the news that there would be extra tax on leaded petrol to encourage people not to pollute the air with lead. We were given a increase of 2c per litre but soon I noticed that it was 3c.
now we have lead replacement petrol and it seems to have increased even more. If we no longer have lead why do we have to pay more?
Also it is very rare that they advertise the RON for LRP were as unleaded and premium unleaded just about always have the octane number. This also varies from different service stations as my car will ping like hell on BP premium but pulls nice and strong with shell premium.
I went to a service station the other day with a real cheap price posted up on the sign but when I went to put in super it said 93.9, I then later in the afternoon went to a servo advertising a higher price but when I went to put super in it was 91.9
Is there still a set difference for super and unleaded or is it up to the service station to decide how much extra to charge for super.
Looks like now I will have to ignore the signs out the front and go in and check the pump.
On the other hand I guess that when you see a servo on a corner with a red light you can cut through the servo, slow down at the pump and then drive off. when you get pulled over you can say that you wanted to see how much the fuel costs.
I think at that first servo (independant)the difference was about 8c were as the second (BP) was only about 4c extra.
I have tried running unleaded but it pings constantly, the super and some premiums arent much better and the shell goes well but is about 9c dearer than ULP.
I have heard of cars running for 15 years on unleaded and LPG with a little extra valve wear and no major damage with no added lubricants. I would imagine that if you occasionally ran some lube with your fuel that a standard grey would ge well on any ULP since they were only designed to run on standard anyway but with a heavily shaved head on a hot red its a bit of a bitch on ULP, especailly taking off, going up hills and overtaking on the freeway.
does anyone know the RON our fuel supliers offer for LRP?, is there still a set minimum?
are we paying more for fuel so we will buy new cars and pay even more tax buying them?
has the goverment cought on to the fact that we spend less tax on maintaning our old cars than if we had new ones.
By that I mean like last year I got a stuffed master cylinder, it cost me $12.00 to get it good as new, the other week the master cylinder went in our 93 calais and I got a price for $355.00 for a master cylinder, I was going to kit it but everyone recomended against kitting these cylinders and even if I did it would be $120.00 for a kit, thats exactly ten times the cost of the FC's kit, lots of GST there ay.
I learnt the hard way that modern cars are silly expensive mistakes but this fuel thing seems silly too.
I have read some pretty convincing evidence that unleaded is dangerous. It has a higher level of benzene wich breaks down your imune system, i dont know how much benzene is in the new LRP but there was a much lower amount in leaded than unleaded. If you are exposed to unleaded too much you could end up with something very simular to aids.
I have also read several times that the major cuase of high lead levels in blood was from paint and not exhaust fumes. As for car emissoins and the ozone layer, aparently leaves and animals are a bigger threat to to ozone layer than cars becuase stuff like cow shit and decomposing leaves let of more ozone harming gases.
Why dont people have to pay more tax on there land rates for having too many trees.
funny thing is that alot of the biggest critics of car emissions drive smokey old kombis in wich they couldnt be bothered changing their rings.
We are in a time now were those who cant afford a new car will by a car like a camry, VN, VL, EA etc wich are all unleaded any way, alot of pre 86 cars now on the road are classics and charging more for fuel isnt going to get them of the road so what is the reason for the constant LRP price hikes.
What does LRP offer, what extra lubrication properties does it feature?, what is its RON?is it worth it?
The other day I went to a servo in blacktown to fill up, I pulled in and got out but noticed I was at the wrong pumps, I then turned the car around and reversed in the over side, the guy at the counter was looking at me funny, I noticed there were no LRP/Super pumps so I did a big screechy and took of to display my disaproval of his modern car only service. I could have filled up on premium but I was pissed that they dont worry about older cars any more.
Is there any one who works with fuel that can fill me in?
739  General / General Board / Re: Old Shiny on: December 20, 2003, 11:57:13 AM
that looks pretty sweet, ever since I painted my engine bay from black to all white I havent really liked black in engine bays. That motor looks good too, thats a nice balance of bright stuff in there.

ATTACK OF THE TONGAN GANGBANGERS
One saturday night we were cruising town up in Newcastle when we pulled into king street macca's carpark, we had three in the front, three in the back, and the tailgate up.
As we cruised in someone in the car noticed a tongan riding a pushy in the carpark who he went to school with. he called out and the young tongan came up to the window and started talking to the guy in my car that went to school with him.
Next thing I looked in the mirror and noticed a big group of tongans aproaching the car.
One said "Hey mate, you looking for trouble" we said "no man, we dont want trouble", he said to the other tongans"hey, they want trouble" next thing the guy in the front passenger side copped a punch in the jaw and fists started coming from every direction through the windows. I really got pissed of once they started kicking and punching the car as well as sitting long necks all over the roof and bonnet and I'd had enough, I turned the key wich brought the stereo on wich was turned up full and the CD was rite at the start of jonnie b goode, a wacked er in reverse and let the clutch go, at this stage one of them was half way in my tailgate with his feet on the rear bar, I went flying through the carpark in reverse with bottles smashing and a tongan hanging of the back with a bunch of furious tongans charging after me. I ran over a pushy they left on the ground in the carpark, the tongan on the back fell of to the side and landed on his arse and cars quickly moved out of my way as I made a exit all the way out onto the road in reverse, I wacked it in first, run a red and got up to a street light on king street to check the damage. I was now spewing that the tongan had fell of becuase the one on his own would have been pretty out numbered by the six of us who could have kept him in the car till we got to our area were he would have been out numbered by hundreds of car nuts.
I couldnt see any damage from the tongans or the pushy and then noticed that they were all running up the road. we jumped in and headed to nobby's beach to get some numbers to come back to macca's with us but it was pretty dead there as every one had gone to the street drags at cooragang island. When I was asking were everyone was a police car pulled up behind me and flashed its light, one of the cops got out and said that I had just been reported for attacking a group of people.
When I explained to the officer what happened, he said "them bastards" aparently there had been a whole lot of muggings in the carpark by a group of tongans in the past few weeks wich resulted in a 18 year old going into acoma for a week becuase he only had $2
The police claimed that there wasnt anything they could do about the situation but asked me to go through the security tapes and see what I find.
The next day I went in to see the tape but since it went between about 6 cameras all that we saw was my car pull up. I had been reported by the security at Mc donalds but the manager there had been concerned about the tongans drinking in the carpark and had no doubts about them attacking me.
I am not really the sort of guy that will go and start a fight with twenty tongans even if I have got five mates with me.
I was quite regretfull that the tongan trying to get in the back didnt get in, by time we arrived at cooragang there was probably over 300 cars there and it would have been quite funny to see one car attacker against hundreds of car nuts with many who loved the FC.
for years later everyone kept going on about this night like it was part of a movie, even the guys with saw jaws said they had a ball getting attacked by the tongans and the FC was unmarked after a couple of small rubs with compound.
This led to a rumour that my car had been chased and rolled and was written off and I got alot of strange comments the next friday night in town. the group of tongans were never seen again hanging out at macca's.
Man do I wish I had the flamethrowers fitted then.
