Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: peep mirrors for FC

I think the bent mirrors would look nicer as they wouldn't stick out as much as the straight ones.
Looked at rares spares and they are more expensive than on ebay so I think I will buy a bent one from ebay.
Also my sons formal is in two weeks and we still have to take out the old steering column and put the new one in so I hope its not a big job. Then take it over for rego. If it fails and there is too much to do to it, I will just take him in it with a permit and worry about fixing it up after the formal.

I have noticed that there are a few different types of peep mirrors. Some are bent and some are straight. Does anyone know which would be best for the FC sedan.
Thanks

Just enquiring about the peep mirrors. Does anyone from ACT know if you have to have peep mirrors on your car to pass for registration?
Also, if I do, does anyone have any spare good ones that they don't need and would like to sell. Ebay has new ones for sale for $38.00 plus $10 delivery. Is that a reasonable price to pay.
Thanks Janette

Hi there Chris
I have an FC special sedan with rust but not overly major rust. It even goes but has no brakes. I am in Canberra as well. Asking price is $2500. We bought it off ebay from QLD for $4653 two months ago but the condition was too much for us to fix. Ring Mick on 62581386 if you are interested.
Thanks Janette

Thanks David for your comments.
The car starts first turn of the key, but it needs a new steering column. The gear linkages are worn. The one on there at the moment is off an EK. Also it has a steering wheel off an EK so I need to find an FC one.
Since we bought it a few weeks ago, my partner and our friend has buffed and polished it, all chrome work has been polished with Brasso, we have made new door cards and re trimmed the old door trims back on. All the seats and door trims have been cleaned and armour oiled. New carpets have been put in as well.
Its gleaming in the garage under covers. I would like to get it on the road by December 4 so I can take my son to his formal in it.
Will put more photos up when I take more.
Regards Janette

Well door trims are all finished. Thanks to Keith (EEFCEE) for helping me out with the 15 door trim clips that I needed.
All I need now is the chrome strips that go along the top of the door trims. So if anyone has some that they don't need and would like to sell, then I would be most interested. Will post photos of door trims being made when I work out how to post them.
Thanks all Janette

Hi RET
I'm not sure if it has been resprayed I just thought because the ID plate doesn't match. The paint on it looks pretty much old and original condition so i'm confused. I took the sunvisors off it the other day and the roof lining is in new condition. It must have been re-done as well. The colour of the roof lining is sort of a whitish greyish colour and the trim around the edges of the sunvisors is a greeny bluey colour. I will get some photos of both of them and post them on here somewhere. Just have to work out how to do it.

Hi Geoff
No sorry the trim numbers are 355-629.
Obviously when it was repainted, the whole interior must have been changed as well.

Would anyone have a copy of the original sales brochure that depicts this particular colour FC that they could post on here for me to look at please. India Ivory over Granite Grey. I look through the threads on original advertisements and brochures but alot of the pictures are gone or they don't show up anymore.
Thanks Janette

Hi Ken
The numbers from the other car are:
FC 225 28755 S Trim 355 629 Paint 253 7773
The body number is worn but I think the numbers are 49690 S, there is no single number at the beginning but I can sort of see an F The engine number I think is L511683, its hard to make them out.
The car is two-tone green with green and black interior but the ID plate says different. Does that mean the ID plate is off another car?

Hi there all,
I was checking out the ID plate on my FC and put the numbers into the "ID Plate Results" website. It comes up as a different colour paint, which obviously means that the car has been resprayed. I would rather it have been the original colour because I love the grey colour.
It also says that the paint scheme is of late 58 and was assembled during 58. So does that mean that the car is a 1958 model.
The engine is not original because the number is J 89116.
The numbers are
FC 225 7239 M Paint 253 7700 256 7770 Trim 277 629
Chassis 8 15218 M
Thanks Janette

Technical Board / Restoration Help / FC Steering Column with column shift
|
on: October 13, 2008, 01:52:31 PM

Hi all,
Just have a question about my FC Steering column shift, it needs new linkages because the old ones are worn. Is it easier to buy and change only the linkages or to get a good second hand complete steering column and put it in.
Thanks Janette

Hi there, I'm new to the forum and just finished reading through this thread. You are a genius on what you have done to that black FC. I have a sedan on my front lawn with probably about the same amount of rust and once we strip off any good parts, off to the scrap metal yard.
Good work
Cheers Janette
