52  Technical Board / General Technical / rust & weight on: February 22, 2009, 09:09:24 PM
I am in the middle of removing the l/h sills on 1 of my wagons, it was 2/3 full of rust pieces. the outer sill had only very few minor thin spots and the inner is still quite strong (going to replace anyway while i am in there), just wanting to find out where all this bloody rust comes from??  appears to be far far far too much to be from the sill outer only.

once i emptied all the rust from the sill i was wondering how much it weighed so i got to the scales and was surprised to find 4.2kg of rust had come from inside 1 sill. are our cars getting heavier with the more rust they get and steel they lose, has anyone weighed their project before and after "restoration"??

cheers FC P/Van
53  Galleries / Project Cars - FEs and FCs Under Construction / Re: FC A Pillar Repair on: February 19, 2009, 12:12:12 PM
can someone describe in a little detail as to how to make the patch for the lower "A" pillar, what material, what technique was used etc etc etc

cheers FC P/Van
54  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: floor pan and sill replacement on: February 18, 2009, 01:53:44 PM
This article is in the Technical section of the site

http://www.fefcholden.org.au/techinfo/tech001.html

I would do the sills first, one side at a time, in case you find you have to repair inners as well.

Cheers
John

thank you so very much for that link, a very informative read on exactly the job i am about to undertake.

cheers FC P/Van
55  Technical Board / General Technical / floor pan and sill replacement on: February 18, 2009, 08:24:50 AM
I need to replace both front floor sections in my wagon and outer sills, lower "A" pillar sections are pretty bad also, should i do floors before sills or other way around??? possibly need to do inner sills also depending on what i find when i remove the outers.

cheers

57  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: Interchangeable doors. Sedan - Wagon on: February 11, 2009, 07:46:16 PM
Just to add to P/van's comments -

All FE and FC vans, utes, standard sedans, standard wagons and business sedans only had a lock on the passenger door.  Only special sedans and wagons had 2 door locks

Ken

cheers for that little info Ken, I am always learning new things on this site too, love to help others as much as I can and i know i will get knowledge in return for things I am researching.
