261  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: Sound Deadner Aplication on: September 18, 2006, 02:19:07 AM
I plan to go Ed Ho's way with dynamat extreme, this is what the car audio guys replace the factory stuff with and it cuts out more noise and heat than regular deadeners as well as improving the sound quality of the stereo, it also is known to have excellent bonding wich is important on the roof in the sun. you may notice this stuff on those foxtel shows as it is what is used in all the cars from people like chip foose.

looks like it will be on again at 1:30pm
263  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Brake problem on: September 15, 2006, 10:40:06 PM
its probably hard for a hub to bend being a small chank of hardened steel but are they still the same hubs you had when the wheel fell off?
are all 5 screws tight between the rotor and hub?
did all the outers of the bearings seat in properly?
I agree, as you said the one piston would constantly be pushed if the stubb axle was bent unless a bent axle has not allowed all the bearings to work properly.
is the pedal pulsating when you brake?

thanks for the motorvation guys, I have had a crappy week but I am back in buisiness again, it was supposed to be a week of getting the car closer to finished but I seemed to have just wasted my holidays, after a crap begining to the week, tempataion to call the scrap metal people and nearly losing the family I dragged myself back out to the rusty pos and spent the day cleaning it back up, there is so much to be done that when I start in the morning now I spend 3 hours and 20 cigarettes working out were to start. the too hard basket is overfilling and the amount of money needed to finish it seems to go up and up everyday.
I guess half the users of this forum have been through it all before and if I ever do finish this thing it my pay off after a while once ive forgotten what a pain in the but this thing was to build.
At the moment I am trying to get all the panels to fit, bigest problem at the moment is the front passenger door that wont go forward enough to completely shut, has big holes in the top hinge witch may have previously been drilled out but still cant get enough forward movement, I made alot of the area around the top hige by hand as well as cuting the a pillar at the bottom of the windscreen so I hope I have stuck it together properly.
here is some pics, through the week off with basicly no progress

I took a week of starting from last friday, havent got anything done yet, went to ross engineering to find out about getting pulleys made and they said I will need a threaded hole put in the end of the crank to put a bolt in otherwise its going to spit the balancer and pulley, main hassle there is I cant get the friggin engine back into the car to take it somewere to get done so the crank will probably have to come back out.
the whole time Ive had off the car has been getting saturated with the rain and wind and it looks like I will now have to take of all the primer as rust is starting to show through in a few spots. ive now used all my holisays and wont be able to get time of again till the middle of summer.
I thought rather than let time get wasted today I would go and replace as many bolts as possible with stainless, I went to mr stainless in drumoyne wich was a bit of a mission to find and park and when I finally got there with my big bag of nuts and bolts the dickhead didnt want to serve me becuase it was 20 minutes to closing time and told me to go to the boat shop next door to get my nuts and bolts, I walked out and lit a smoke and a customer walked out of the shop and said dont worry about that wanker, if you get anything he will rob you anyway and recomended a place in penrith.
My landlord rang while I was gone and said he is coming on thursday to do some repairs, Looks like I will be using the days left to clean up and try to somehow hide the FC and vk that we keep saying wont be sitting there next time.
Making things worse I get stuck inside with my missus for 4 days being roasted about how much time I spend on the car instead of the family, this is how most of the day is usually spent when I do get clear weather anyway and it sure makes it hard to get motivated, ive been trying to get the thing to a rolling stage so I can try and squeeze it in the shed so at least if I had a break from it, it would be safe from the weather.
Anyway I quit, the car is probably worth more in parts than as a hole as nearly everything is new in packets and cost heaps, I doubt I will get half of what the motor cost me.
I might get something later on the road like another old holden or maybe even a cadillac or something but at this stage of my life its too hard to rebuild a car, I could have bought a good caddy now with the money thats gone into the pile of shit in the driveway and I wouldn't have wasted nearly two years of my life.
Anyway, time to get pissed.
266  Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: 186 / 202 pistons on: September 12, 2006, 12:55:48 AM
where are you, my shop kind of just knew what fitted where and bought the bits, they are in cambletown, nsw and have done alot of the machining on many of the holden 6 fed's, and turbo and supercharged holden 6's.
267  Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: 186 / 202 pistons on: September 12, 2006, 12:39:35 AM
yeah, thats rite, the pistons I have are 202, its bored and has a 3.3 crank.
I raided a efi 3.3 at the wreckers but would have been better of buying a complete motor and pulling all the bits out in the luxury of my own front yard, the cost of these parts was small compared to what was done with them.
The sc14 will give a good power increase but is more suited to near stock motors, It is the easiest supercharger to fit and cheap to replace but hard to get strong reliable boost out of, thats why I am now trying to do it with a eaton m90.
The changes to my head and cam kind of made the engine too much for the smaller sc14 blower. these can be set up stock with just a decompression plate, the extra machining  in the pistons and cc'd chambers can take more boost than the sc14 can make.
I might be selling the sc14 supercharger and vk efi manifold if all goes well with the m90.
much better results have been found on sc14 set ups using the vk efi manifold than the 2bbl manifold like in the crs kit but you need to trim the firewall and relocate the battery to fit it to a FC.
268  Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: 186 / 202 pistons on: September 11, 2006, 07:48:24 AM
I am using acl race series dished pistons, the engine shop also machined a bit more of the top and black motor rods wich I had shot peened, closed and honed I have a 179 block with a machined black crank (not real cheap)

270  General / General Board / Re: Peter Brock - RIP on: September 10, 2006, 06:47:14 AM
I think he came 4th, wich aint to bad considering he was running against more purpose built jags & stuff. from what I have heard now he just got back from driving the fx when he was in the daytona.
Must be tricky racing in one car one day and a completely different one the next.

272  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: 2pk over acrylic on: September 10, 2006, 04:04:06 AM
its very common to spray 2k over acrylic, this is how most people do cars up now without a bare metal respray, from what I know the problem is the acrylic is more likely to flex than 2k and acrylic can move and seperate under the 2k so to reduce hassles down the track it is better to use 2k from scratch on bare metal.
The other way around is ok, acrylic over 2k, I am painting my exterior in acrylic with 2k primers under it.
273  Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: FC Sedan - One piece door glass on: September 09, 2006, 11:51:50 PM
they would smooth things up in the window area but you wouldnt be able to wind the rears down very far and the front might hit the hinges.
allthough I like stuff looking smooth I also like quarter windows.
do a side on drawing and then copy it and add the quarter windows and see if they make the car look longer/shorter or the roof look lower or higher, maybe you could do something on the computer with that photoshop thingy wich I still dont know how to use.

This has to be the saddest week for Australia in a long time.Just saw footage of Peter Brock driving that wonderful FX in England.Gees,a 138 doing 6000 Rpm,with a legend of Holden motor sport at the wheel. He will be long remembered as a true blue Aussie, and a Holden icon........Rest in peace Peter

were did you see the footage, I knew the car was going to goodwind but didnt know it already raced, how did he go?
here it is on the brock site, no news on how it went. http://teambrock.com.au/cgi-bin/noticeboards/get_notice.cgi?NOTICE_ID=16370&TEMPLATE=view_full&TEMPLATE_UID=461829
it sure would be a good week to start over again.
275  General / General Board / Re: Peter Brock - RIP on: September 09, 2006, 05:55:32 AM
I just got a phone call about it from my uncle, Gee, I was so hanging to see brocks 48 run, I remember losing my voice trackside as a kid screaming "GO BROCK" as he raced at bathurst in a vk with the front and rear windows gone but then he blew up his motor trying to catch goss in the jag with a loose seat and he lost, I was completely devestated and almost in tears when that car stopped near the end of the race in around 1985.
Sure has been a crappy week and I would now be shitting myself if I was a Aussie icon (if there are any now left), two real top blokes both killed but atleast they went doing their stuff.
Notice how boring motor racing has been since brock left touring cars.
276  General / General Board / Re: ek - fb on: September 08, 2006, 10:11:54 AM
dont worry, about 90% of the 20 mechanics at my work probably couldnt tell a fj from a hz, hell man what country do they think they are in, they get the shits with me if I mention old holdens and start saying new bmw's and mercedes handle and old holdens dont.
They probably ride pushy's with training to avoid risk of falling over too.
277  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: hotting up 138 fc ute on: September 06, 2006, 08:37:18 AM
hmm, a grey @ 6500rpm with a big open exhaust could be hard for some to choose over any other, may not be the most powerfull but looks like a lot of fun.
278  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: hotting up 138 fc ute on: September 06, 2006, 07:11:16 AM
maybe you should talk to tate engineering about a brock style grey motor, brock says the power to weight ratio in his new grey powered holden is simular to a xu-1 and it still has stock rocker gear on top, it also looks very period under the bonnet and is built to run over 6000rpm all day.
It should give you enough power to turn that hyundai drivers cap back around the right way.
anyway, how much were you going to spend.

is the nos warehouse still open?
280  General / General Board / Re: "How Quaint an Australian Car" on: September 04, 2006, 10:01:59 AM
I knew I wasnt imagining the car, didnt it say"so I thought I might give it a burl on the old fb holden"
Parramatta road used to have some classics, I remember as a young kid it was always exciting to travel along parramatta rd with cars in the air, hanging out of signs, cut down cartoon like real cars and ofcourse the guitar shop car, even then I used to try and see what was in the window of american autos.
Thinking back to this add I was trying to think of the oldest holden add I could remember but all I can think of is gem gem gemini and the world class commodore, I remember the vk commodore looked real hi tech in the add and a couple of months I rode back seat in a vk calais all the way to canberra, it had a digital dash and stereo, I couldnt beleive the technology I had just experienced.

Anyway, are there any novacastrians or hunter people who remember a add for harry's on hunter (de wheels) about 8 years ago with a FC holden in it?
