241  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: Indicator switch assembly on: May 24, 2020, 04:28:28 PM
Ok, so I was tempted to reply to your post When I saw it because I think the balls go in the bottom of the brass cups so that the springs sit on them.  But I’m not 100% sure
30 years ago I pulled one apart and springs and balls went everywhere. I said at the time I’m never doing that again.
So far I haven’t     Shocked
I’ve been lucky enough over the years to find quite a lot of NOS ones of these so I’ve never had to worry about cleaning/restoring them.
Doesn’t help much I guess.

Depends if you are wanting factory original or the best finish

You need to undo the handbrake cable and remove it and work the inners until they free up. Lubricate it well and reinstall. It’s a common problem and if not done properly it will cause a drag on the rear brakes.
Front left, I agree with everyone so far, you will probably find a leaking wheel cylinder

Ahh, the hidden damage. I’m sure you’ll get it all sorted and it will look as good as the rest of the car Vern

What’s been the issue with the guard Vern?
246  For Sale and Wanted / Parts Wanted / Re: Internal rear vision mounting screws on: May 13, 2020, 09:21:44 AM
I have the screws for the mirror. The are a dome head countersunk phillips drive self tapper. They are chrome plated

Whether or not the headliner has holes in it, there will be holes in the panel above the roof liner. I would suggest placing the mirror centrally at the correct orientation where the lip on the bracket goes over the edge. Then use a pin to locate the holes

The wide mirror with the Nasco tab is FB EK EJ EH era. You will find that you can’t put the visors down with that mirror in place. The FE FC one is narrower for that reason

This is the mirror that would have been in the box

The original owner fitted the mirror and put the old one back in the box

I have exactly what you need, 30 odd years of pulling FE FC apart. All sorted and stored.

I’m in Hoppers Crossing.      Ken

Nicely detailed engine, well done
Are you putting the oil filter back on?

When in doubt I always refer to the parts book
There are 3 different plates

FX FJ.   7402030.  8 screws
FE and half way through FC.   7408289.    8 screws
Late FC to EK.   7414656.    10 screws

Oh, and just to muddy the waters some more, the 8 hole variety have a smaller diameter self tapping screw than the 10 hole type which has a machine screw

The inbuilt clips for the coil springs look like a certainty that the coils were factory fitted.
In the last picture showing the FB seat there is a possibility that the drawing does not include all the features of the seat. There could be coil springs in the seat but not shown in the drawing to aid clarity.

You will be lucky to get a grille to subframe rubber in place, it’s generally a tight fit and the thickness of the rubber plus the added friction doesn’t help. Guard to grille rubber no problem.

254  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Front Seat Differences on: April 28, 2020, 09:18:34 AM
I think the coil springs are added later by trimmers or dealerships to fix the sagging seat problem
Clearly no coils shown in this pic of FE seat in 1956

This pic is of a GMH fix for the seat it reflects the business sedan seat which was stronger than all the other seats. June 57

And lastly an FB seat once again showing fixes. No coils in FB seats.

255  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: '59 FC Fuel/Vacuum Pump, rebuild Kit. Help Req Please. on: April 28, 2020, 09:01:31 AM
Have you cleaned and checked the wiper motor.
In my experience the grease inside where the paddle moves back and forth goes dry and hard thus making a poor seal between the paddle and the body. This affects how well the wipers work. Clean out the old grease and redo with rubber grease and you should see some improvement. Also clean and regrease the switch on top of the motor which is also where vacuum leaks can occur.

The screws at the very rear of the guard at the top are the same as the ones that go down the guard along the door edge.
My method to get them out
Get a 3/8 socket kit and two long extensions with the 7/16 socket on it.
If you go straight up the gap between the dash and body the socket will go straight onto the bolt head and stay there.
It won’t work with a 1/2 drive socket set.

Yep, I visited this van when it was in the wrecking yard years ago.
On the ID plate it actually reads FC2104S10-7218-A
The S10 and the S8 refer to the modifications done at the factory to convert it to a mail van.
I think the S10 refers to body mods and the S8 refers to the special paint colour.

The body mods are:
Door pull handles
Ryco oil filter
Chain on petrol tank cap
Anti theft spring in fuel filler neck
Radio interference suppressors fitted

The paint mods are
Post office red paint on outer and inner panels
Wheels in black enamel

FC 2104 S8 has no passenger side door and custom made seat and rear trimming
FC 2104 S9 was special for Tasmania and had a custom made front seat and rear trimming. It had the door.

These are the guard seals or antisqueak. 1 goes down the grille and one at the bottom of the guard.

They are mentioned below in the workshop manual under installation
