221  For Sale and Wanted / Parts Wanted / Re: Floor cuts needed on: July 26, 2020, 02:02:41 PM
Darren in my experience the replacement floor panels always have ribs which are a little shallower than original. Nothing that a little panel beating doesn’t fix. The kick up at the front is just an average measurement of where good metal should be.  Maybe your van has slightly more rust than normal in this area. I would make up a piece to extend the kick up to how ever far you needed.

Regarding finding a donor car with the LHF floor pan rust free......If such a thing existed, good luck

I assume you’re thinking HKTG or Torana Harv?

The fins and the extensions are both right and left handed.
You have to be careful to get a LH and a RH fin and a LH and RH extension.

The rear fins for the first two styles of FC paintwork are interchangeable, but the rear fins for the 3rd model are unique by having a groove cut into them to locate the stainless steel extension.
You can make a 3rd style fin out of an earlier fin by filing in the grooves.
However using a 3rd style fin on an earlier style car leaves the end of the fin not touching the body and it looks odd.

I don’t think they come apart, I’ve never actually tried to get them apart though. Interested to see if you have any success

Darren, I think $5 for postage should be ok. You can do a direct deposit into my Westpac account number 609119 in the name of K and J McLean. The BSB number is 733695

Looked through the parts book and found reference to the screw in type. No reference to a change part way through FE. It’s a bit of a mystery.
Interesting to know what other FE vans or wagons have. (Assuming they still have an FE top tailgate and not an FC one)

I have these available. Does yours have Phillips head screws or slotted head. Slotted head shown which are NOS. I would have Phillips head screws in my tin of wagon tailgate parts.

$20 plus postage.

Rob, you just need a bigger hammer!
By the way, is that a drum retainer clip on the wheel stud?
They are rare things to find.

Yep rubber is complete as you have it.
I’ve not seen a tailgate with a spot welded rubber retainer strip. All the ones I had were screwed in. I will have a look in the parts book

Yes it is the same front and rear. Parts book lists both with the same part number.
They were only on the front of specials.
FE utes, vans and standards had the centre bumper bar with the holes for the guard, but no guard fitted.

235  For Sale and Wanted / Reproduction Parts / Re: FE to EK reproduction rear Mudflap brackets on: May 31, 2020, 12:35:54 PM
The rear mud flap brackets are cad plated from new

The plating corrodes over time leaving the appearance of plain steel

It’s a heat shield. FXFJ standard fitting. I think the 6v generator was larger than the 12 v one and suffered from overheating.

I’ve probably got a few globe holders here.

I agree with Fraze, I worked in the brake industry for a while and we sent out all cylinders for professional sleeping. From memory they were sent to ABS which is a trade brake component supplier.

Rod, there is a plate inside the A pillar at about floor level. It is not structural but rather closes the gap so that if you drop a bolt when you are attaching the mudguards then it doesn’t fall Into the sill. The plate is completely sealed around the edges with sealant from the factory.

240  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: Fuel Tank Repair on: May 28, 2020, 08:37:06 AM
All four corners of the tank are completely identical, no pressed in sections.
Wagon, van and Ute tank are all identical including filler neck.
