21  Technical Board / General Technical / Piston Advice on: August 07, 2009, 12:24:35 AM
Hi.

Have my motor in for a rebuild and was told pistons will have to be made at a cost of $700+
Questions.
Where to get pistons.
If bore to 149 what pistons fit
What alternatives.
Ideas.
I know its silly but want to stick with grey.
As always help greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the comments , don't think I'll bother.
Just ensure I change the oil a little more regularly.

Hello

Are there any negatives to fitting EOF ?
I have the housing and the bracket, what fittings do I need? (pictures would be handy)
Braided hoses or copper pipe?
Any help appreciated.

25  Technical Board / General Technical / Extension Housing Leak on: January 20, 2009, 04:19:51 PM
A lot of oil leaks from the rear seal I put a new seal in but still leaking.
The yoke is badly scored could this be the reason?
Has the brass bush  got anything to do with sealing?
Should I look for another yoke.
Sleeve the existing one (possible?)
Build up and machine existing?
Does the Rare Spares gasket kit have all the gaskets required?
Any advice appreciated

I can't open the spare wheel door , I made some adjustments so that it looked better  and was tighter ( too tight key won't turn)
Fresh paint so don't want to force, plus wooden floor has been siliconed  down.
Can I drop the tank from the outside?
Any ideas?Huh

33  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Compression?? on: April 09, 2007, 11:06:58 PM
To determine if either these motors are any good should I remove the head?
(then what)
The oil in both looks ok there is no build up on the rockers.
Anything else to do rather than fitting and hoping for the best?

Thanks

34  Technical Board / General Technical / Compression?? on: April 08, 2007, 12:19:59 PM
How hard/ easy should it be to turn over a standard grey?
I have 2 motors in the shed and both are very easy to turn by hand using the fly wheel.
Does this indicate a lack of compression or is this normal?

35  Technical Board / General Technical / Rebuild or buy??? HELP on: September 18, 2006, 04:15:16 AM
Here's the problem.
I have a grey motor of unknown condition, I think it will require a rebuild, I have been offered a motor that is reputedly "rebuilt" for $700(owner ex mechanic did the work and ran in the car for 6 months then changed to a red, owner now dead)
The person selling the car is an acquaintance of a friend.
I have a good modified head and cam with steel timing gear a rebuilt oil pump and a new water pump.
Should I take a chance on the rebuilt or use that $700 toward rebuilding the motor I have?
Thoughts,ideas,comments,costs.

36  Technical Board / General Technical / Final Chapter (Lump in sump) on: September 07, 2006, 04:38:32 AM
Pulled the motor apart I was going to use the cam, pistons, oil pump, head etc.
I have another block and will have it bored and fit new bearings.
Out came the pistons 6,5,4 all ok then the others!!!
I think I had 138 red motor pistons(STD) fitted in a +60 thou Grey block but cant seem to find any, only overbored grey? Any ideas .

37  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Shattered Main Bearing Cap on: September 02, 2006, 11:53:37 AM
Thanks for the offer Craig.
Live on the Bellarine Peninsular bit too far to drive.
Would like to keep gray but red more practicable and a cheaper option.
Like the idea of supercharged 186
Not sure what to do.

38  Technical Board / General Technical / Shattered Main Bearing Cap on: September 01, 2006, 08:58:41 PM
The caption say's it all.
A picture worth a thousand words.

Part of the bolt is still in the block but the block is also damaged.
Rebuild (possible to repair?) or start with another block, red motor?
Not happy.
Any help, ideas appreciated.

Thanks Brad
I'll crawl under tomorrow and see if i can take the sump off. I think I will have to remove the steering linkage as well (HR cross member and steering)
