181  General / General Board / Re: Anyone know the name of this trim kit please on: December 04, 2020, 05:44:08 PM
It’s the back half of a Detroit kit which has been rearranged a little

You can see how the upper and lower stripes come together and are not a good fit
182  For Sale and Wanted / Parts Wanted / Re: Wanting to buy 2 Front end springs FE Fc Fb EK on: December 02, 2020, 05:45:35 PM
I have a few pairs of front springs, from memory I have a sedan set and a wagon set but would have to check the part numbers. I’m in Hoppers Crossing.

I would have a set here. I’m in Victoria.

Original had a thin bituminous material stuck to the floor followed by a hessian like underfelt.
It was never really an ideal solution as it retained water and promoted floor rust.
Better products exist now such as Dynamat which adheres to the floor and has some thickness to reduce noise.
My opinion is to coat the floor well with a rust resistant paint followed by a quality adhesive matting which is moisture proof and sound deadening.

That’s really unusual as lots of country roads in the fifties were often only 1 lane wide meaning that cars had to drive off the side of the road to pass.
All my cars were worse on the passenger side than the drivers side.

I’ve not seen any for sale.
If you have access to a few sets of springs, usually the inner pads are not worn as badly as the ones at the ends of the springs.

Thanks Tex, looks like some useable parts there.

Vern, unfortunately the good old days of super petrol when you could tune your car by how grey the exhaust pipe was are gone. Unleaded fuel gives a very black exhaust. Hard to tell from a description, but an overly sooty exhaust would generally be a sign of burning oil. Be best to compare your exhaust with other older cars (Not modern cars with catalytic converters) to see whether yours is comparatively the same, better or worse.

That’s great information Harv, do you have any idea when the aluminium versions changed and which one was first.

According to parts book, in early FJ the rear bush was changed, this is probably when the casting changed and the shield was deleted. The earliest part book I have is FE and the metal shield is not listed as a separate part.
192  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: FE Holden gearbox extension housings on: September 28, 2020, 05:37:21 PM
The housings changed - I think the early ones have the metal shield. I’ll see what I can find in the parts book sure dates.

I agree, if the carb is that old since reco, then the fuel plunger will be dried out and not pumping correctly when you push the accelerator

The vic club no longer manufactures these decals unfortunately. There are some leftover kits which are held by the club, but I’m unsure what’s left.
You could contact the vic club directly for information

But I agree Rob, the circle is there in the rear shelf

I’m not 100% sure but I think it came in about EJ?
As you say, quite easy to retro fit.

I’m sure this is the one. Check the dimensions on your pump.

I have a few, there are two sizes. I’ll dig them up for you

First car is a Castle grey over Corsair Tan car, 3rd quarter 57

Second car is Terraglow over Adobe beige, probably a mid model car. Terraglow is a pretty rare colour.

Yes Tex, you’re spot on, the car I photographed had a handbrake light fitted
