finally, a rain free day, i got some welding done on the doors and tailgate through the week but ive been too scared to get into the bog and metal prepping with grey clouds over my head everyday but today i got started on a door, it should only need a little more filler in the morning and get some primer at lunch time, i also today got my oil pump and thermostat thingo painted but i tinted it a touch to dark. Man oil pumps are tricky, trying not to let oil out or paint in with just masking tape. if the weather continues good tomorow i will end up with another door leaving only 2 more. glad i dont have a 6 door. There was a bit involved in getting the doors ready becuase i radiused the square corners and made flush push button buckets, cut out speaker holes and the fronts are cut out for power window motors and switches, the rears will be getting power windows too but i will do them later. offcourse there was the rust repairs in all doors except the NOS rear door too. the old mig that always gave me hell has done hours of welding this time without jambing up once, I must have it all bodged up just rite now.
I hope this weather continues next week, i might get to get some visible progress done. next week i hope to get this door jamb sorted out so the front passenger door will fit, and then get some doors out of the garage and back on the car, maybe eventually the whole car will fit back in the garage. i will eventually get some pics up of some bog and stuff.

Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: Removing paint

I went through this when i started my car, how big is the area you want to strip, if its just like one door you can borrow my buff. after using electric sanders and 2 tins of paint striper i wasnt doing to well, then craig wilson brought a striping disc over and i never looked back. the discs goes on a buffing machine and cost $20-$25 and it takes 4 or 5 to strip a whole car with 50 years of paint on it. it is like a stiff scourer and is not too hard on the metal. in the edges i used a twist knot cup brush on a angle grinder, they are good for getting paint of small areas but you cant keep it in one area too long or it heats the metal and you need to wear eye glasses or you will have thick wire in your eyes. a buffing machine is a handy thing to have also if you want to keep a nice shine on your car.

not sure but most B&M shifters i have seen seem to mount the same as a hurst with the holes in the same spot, almost like they do it so you dont have to change anything when you swap your brand of shifter.

I am pretty used to this crap now, everytime i tried to start doingtoday anything i would take out to work on would get wet and of course its all bare metal. i had planed to get the over 3 doors in primer by monday night but so far i just have a power window switch hole cut out in a door, i had done this earlier in the project but the door was cactus so this is a different door, rest of the time has been spent trying to keep the tent intact as the tarp material has become very delicate and has heaps of holes and rips. here is a pic of my work area and all the work i have done, i also got the water neck in primeron saturday morning but i may have to use a VK one if this doesnt clear the pulleys. has anyone had luck asking a boss for a refund on holidays becuase it just rained the whole time?

Ed, it takes just over 9 hours to get there, we are now probably leaving at 4 am and dropping my step duahgter of at edgeworth(not far of the highway at 6 am) from then on it will be daylight and take 6 over 6 hours to get up their, i noticed there isnt a lot happening on the 7th so i am not so worried about getting their in the morning. I have found trips leaving from sydney at early hours of the morning much better than starting of in peak hour and arriving at the destination at the end of the day, the kids want to go inside the big banana this time so we also have to pass through coffs through the day, i was hoping to cruise around the gold coast a bit after getting set up in the room. i could meet up at thornleigh at about 4:30am.

2 days gone and its still pissing down, hopefully it will dry up tomorrow or the darn car might float out the friggin driveway, the tent thing it is in now has a lot of big holes in the roof but still kind off has a greenhouse effect inside due to the ground under the car being a average of 1-2" deep in water. I was hoping for a dry 7 days straight first up so i could get some parts on the car and eventually have enough room in the garage to squeeze the car in as i am now starting to get rust through some spots of the primer, this weather in sydney is bulls$#t, its near impossible to do anything without rain wrecking it and it takes friggin ages to save your holidays back up for another attempt at getting some dry free time.

Is anyone going up to wintersun from down this way around the 7th of june and heading back on the 11th around mid day, i am planning to go early, around 2-3 am from sydney on the 7th, i am hoping to finish the FC in time but if worse comes to worse and its not finished I will still be going. If you are after cheap accomodation becuase you are a tight arse like me and you dont mind staying in a lodge built around the 40's becuase you like old stuff there is still accomadation at the whitehall lodge wich is in the wintersun area and is amongst all the shops and venues. Unfortunately they have updated the bathrooms since i last stayed there and they no longer have 1940's toilets and showers. cost is about $90 per room per night with 3 single beds or 2 double, min booking is 2 nights and there is a beer garden! If you are interested in meeting to cruise up let me know.

Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Twin Turbo V8??

you better check with your engineer what size engine you can fit with a v8 becuase it is more restricted with turbo. It might be squeezy with FE-FC inner gaurds but these days you can probably stick the turbo at the back of the car.

i guess they may have been telling the truth when they said 50.9% of the market. I wonder if that is my FC wagon about to have a head on with the tram in the top pic.

in that case, to get 4-5 mm at the b pillar i think i might need to hire a porta power and push the a pillar a few mm forward at the bottom of the windscreen and file a little more of the door edges and drill out the hinge holes a little more.

what is the usual gap between the front door in the area the stainless mould ends (FC) and the door meets up with the cowl panel and top of the gaurd? my door seems to be a tight fit Also while i am at it what is the usual gap between the b pillar and the door? mine touches the b pillar with about 4mm gap at the front of the door.
