Hi There,

As for travelling over the Nullarbor and how much fuel to carry, as FE-Ute says, for a grey motor there's plenty of stops without worrying about having to carry fuel, a 10 litre container will suffice for extra insurance, if it makes you feel safer..

However, if you need 95 RON Premium or 98 RON Ultimate for your red motor or V8, there's no guarantees past Ceduna until you get to Balladonia.  On a return journey once, we pulled into Cocklebiddy needing Premium, they had it in the tank in the ground, but the bowser pump wouldn't pull it out.  I was forced to buy a small amount of Regular to supplement the remaining fuel in the tank in order to get to Caiguna (60 odd Km) and hope they had some there.

On each trip across, I carried 2 x 10 litre containers of 98 RON Ultimate which I filled in Balladonia and used as I went across and refilled at first opportunity, but still got caught out once or twice.  You might label me a nervous nellie, but with the red motor in my car, I wouldn't set off without 20 litre of Premium or Ultimate in the boot for the off chance that you need it.

Good Luck!!

Hi Surferboy,

Given you're going via Hyden for "surfboard" reasons, I reckon we could be in Ravensthorpe on the Friday night (7th March) and you could pick us up on your way through to Esperance and Norseman on the Sat (8th March)...if you're coming from Hyden, that means we can have a sleep-in... ;D

cheers, Brad

Hey Surferboy,

I think I am with Steve in that the Hyden - Norseman Rd is a bit too much of a challenge....

If you are looking to go a different way (than last time), why don't you come down past Bridgetown and we can go together via Manjimup, Albany, Ravensthorpe, Esperance to Norsemen....lots to see on the way....wineries, national parks, other stuff!!

We'll be towing our new van, so will be sitting on about 80 - 90 kph...I'm assuming you are not taking a van this time?

I was thinking of Ravensthorpe on our first day out from Bridgetown (we have a member there!), Norseman or Balladonia the second....then pretty much as you suggest till we get to Pt Augusta.....at which time we would head south to Adelaide/Mt Gambier to meet the VVanners from the 14th onwards....then the Nats from Thursday 20th onwards......

it puts you a day behind your schedule above....is that an issue?  ...because in your plan you are getting to Mt Gambier on 19th, a day ahead of most others....

whaddyathink???

anyone else from WA??

a convoy???  ....we often talk about how great it would be!!!!

Modification Help / Re: Supra 5 Spd

Thanks all for your input....I'll get hold of the gearbox (I hope) and have a closer look at it to see which brand/type it actually is.  Then I can ask the needed questions of the folks you've mentioned to see if I can get the necessary bits for the hydraulic clutch.

Modification Help / Re: Supra 5 Spd

Thanks Weddo,

Have looked at the Dellows catalogue and have seen that they "seem" to have a different casting for the cable and hydraulic clutch versions of the conversion to red Holden six...(is this correct, does anyone know for sure?)

I also looked at CRS catalogue and saw that their casting has two mounting points inside the bellhousing for pivots either side of the input shaft, with an extra kit required for the cable implementation.

I guess my problem is (at this point) that I don't know whether its a Dellow or CRS bellhousing on the one I have a chance of getting hold of.  All I know is that it has COMMODORE-SUPRA stamped into the top of the bellhousing casting and has a cable clutch setup pivot and fork.

Modification Help / Supra 5 Spd
August 05, 2007, 09:51:09 PM
Hi All,

I have a query about the various bellhousings available for fitting of Supra 5 spd to holden red 6.  I have a possibility of a 202/Supra box acquisition for implant in my FC Special Sdn.  The bellhousing has "commodore-supra" imprinted on top.  However, the clutch is cable operated (for the Commodore?), cable included.  I need to know, is this bellhousing adaptable to my need for a hydraulic clutch slave cylinder with off-the-shelf parts and brackets.....or do I need another more suitable bellhousing adaption for a simple, bolt-on trouble free installation?

cheers...Brad

Hi FC_UTE_BEN,

I'm not entirely sure but I don't think there is anything particular planned for the club during those dates...

We have a restaurant night tomorrow (Sat 7th), and the next club meet is Tues Aug 14th.

There's a potential go-kart outing late August...but nothing in the dates you talk about....sorry!!

However, there's been a few lookers at your post so suggest something and there may be a taker or two to go on a cruise with you or something.

As all my stainless was off the vehicle, I took it all to a Marine polishing place in Mandurah, WA (they do polishing of aluminium stuff for boats) and they did the whole lot of the pieces to a mirror shine for $100...too easy!

Hi all,

there's one of these beasties in a private museum here in WA.  It is a reddish coloured one...will try and navigate photobucket later and put up a pic of it....

General Technical / Re: Bleeding Brakes! (Part 2)
September 26, 2006, 07:57:29 AM
Hi Stinky,

your guess was correct, the brake shoes are different between the two types of slave cylinder...instead of having a recess in the web for the "forked" push rod, the web protrudes to meet the short piston n the slave cylinder.

the idea of a small spacer to pad it out seems plausible, but given braking is often an emergency-type activity, I know I'd always be wondering if they were gonna be there when I "needed them".

I guess that's why I have a spare set of HR rear brake shoes sitting amongst my spares....I found out they were different AFTER I bought the smaller slaves too!!

General Board / Re: whats with photobucket
August 20, 2006, 10:30:29 AM
Jimmys57,

you might find that its the size of the pics you're trying to post....it can take a while on dial-up for a large file (say 2 or 3 Mb) ....and then photobucket has to resize the pic to store it as it has a limit (64K I think)...so that takes a while too (but not two hours!)

If you want to try it again, reduce your pics to about 60K in a photo editor and try again....should take no more than a couple of minutes on dial-up

cheers....Brad

Hi Cat,

I've got a couple of good photos of the RACV van and the HR Divi van together, plus a couple of the RACV van alone....will send them from home this weekend...

Brian was kind enough to give us WA crowd some RACV goodies so it would be good to help him out with pics...

Hi Martin,

Surferboy and I saw those wrecks on our way over to Jindabyne last year.  I stopped on the way back and got some pics of them...very similar to yours...  :D

It's interesting how the crayon marks eventually show through the firewall paint as it fades...

Catch many fish??

Well, after the trip down south, I caught a lift back to the "big smoke"...

There's this place called King's Park, good views of the City of Perth....

Happy snaps....gotta love 'em...

Here's me comparing my flame to the "Eternal Flame" at the monument....who says size doesn't matter?  Anyway, a reflective moment, if you don't mind.....

There's this other monument on the hill as well, pretty impressive.

Oh, and by the way....here's why I don't like working in the city....those red lights aren't taillights, they're BRAKE LIGHTS...hahaha

After that close call with the wind thingy, I was glad to get back to Bridgetown and check things out...

The local Holden Dealer...it's almost like being HOME!

I found a couple of cool cars and their owners in the main street...

They said to me, "We know where there's another one, lets go see it!"

Then we went up to the lookout to see the view from there...

Then Daggy and Carrots took me to Albany where we saw the Harbour...

Then we went to a wind farm......say what!?

LOOK OUT DAGGY...IT'S COMIN AT US!!

WHEW.....that was close....
