Thanks to a few who contacted me about my health.
In trying to be clever I may have sounded a little morbid or terminal about my future.
Its just that my work is moving, everything but the shell has been stored there, and its NOT welcome at the new place.
Its all coming home, but the missus doesnt get it why the FE parts gets garage priority over her car worth over 10 times the FE.
So Ive been well and truly TOLD. Its a conspiracy.
If anyone is actually interested, please contact me.
Ive put it up on ebay.
I need a result pretty soon.
cheers

Hi all.
apparently its been 12 years since my last post here, where did that go.
I have an FE sedan I got about 15 years ago.
It was not running but fairly complete.
It has ball joint drum brake front end, a seized 179, with a yellow painted head ( possibly yella terra but ? ), 3 speed all synchro,  13x 7" jellybean mags.
Otherwise all fairly standard.
I totally stripped it, plastic blasted the shell and front subframe, undercoated all that.
Its currently on a rotisserie.
Theres some rust mostly in the lower areas but you can see it all due to the blasting.
Other panels are pretty good.
Then I got injured and its all been sitting there in a dry workshop all this time.
Also have front guards, 4 doors, bonnet and any thing else i could unbolt from an abandoned fc wagon.
Also have a 202 with 3 speed out of a driving HZ kingo, and an aussie 4 speed.
My future has been organised for me and so all this has to go.
I'm hoping to get around 3k for everything, I guess the resonse or lack of will tell me where thats at,
offers or enquiries for bits and pieces will be considered.
I have till July to get sorted so I'd prefer to move it all at once.
I'm getting together some current pics.
If anyone is interested just call or text me.

PM sent

Hi all,
hard to believe its been over 2 years, and no replies.
Except for all the pm's with good health wishes, much appreciated.
Got a bit better, thought i may get back into it, went backwards again, vicious cycle.
Bought some more parts, tools, plasma, MIG, rented oxy bottles unused for 3 years now.
Optimism can be costly.
Situation hasnt changed, looking for offers, suggestions, may separate, or else evilbay.
Under the pump to get sorted, looking to move and downsize.
cheers

Hi Everybody,
been away from the site for a long time. I've injured my back and so with all the time spent visiting the medical people, trying to still make a living and time out to rest the back theres been no time for anything that doesnt have to happen.
Reality sucks, but it seems to me that my playing with car toys is over. My injury hasnt improved in 12 months or so, I cant lift anything over 10 kg and cant work with my hands in front of me.
No welding, painting, sanding - you know all the fun stuff, and no real fun stuff either.
My FE project has been at a standstill for 12 months or so and I have resigned myself to selling it. I cant do it myself and cant afford to get it done, I have a medical industry to support.
The body shell has been plastic media blasted and primed. There is some rust under driver and passenger feet and the sills are gone ( new floor pans and sills included ).
The rest is fairly easy standard minor rust repairs.
All the hang on panels are very good and i have spares of most panels. windscreens, bumpers, grill etc.
Theres a HJ 202 approx 80,000ks, aussie 4 speed, couple of 3 speed synch boxes, HR drum front, HR disc front, original diff, LJ torana diff, 4 13x7 jellybeans, 2 14x8 jellybeans, twin carb setup, extractors.
Body shell is mounted on rotisserie ( also for sale ) for complete inspection.
I'm selling all my tools as well, compressor, spray guns, gasless mig, henrob oxy set up, sandblast cabinet but only when the FE is gone.
I will give the car buyer 1st option on all tools, especially the rotisserie.
Looking for offers around $2000 ish for the car and all parts. Still working on prices for tools.
Email me if interested tonyshanahan@optusnet.com.au or call me 0418 577 579 if you want to call around for a look.
cheers

Is that an FC wagon in the background of the front on picture of the fourdoor?
Cheers
Tony

Hi Nick,
pretty sure the truck is a 38 F word.
Ive been looking for a Chev truck of around that era.
Very similar roof line.
Very similar all round, but the grills are the main feature that distinguishes them all.
Looks like a good project for someone.
Nice hunting.
cheers
Tony

Hi Nick,
another background question.
Did you check out  the truck thats in the backgrond of the picture of the 4 door?
Must be parked just next to the ute I think.
Do you know what it is?
Did you get a picture of it?
Anything else in the background of that picture?

cheers
Tony

Is your mig a gas/gasless type?
Some bigger migs will run the gasless wire but dont have a polarity switch.
The polarity needs to be opposite for gas or gasless.
Dont understand why, just know to do it.
Sorry if I'm being too obvious.

I had a SPECO shifter like  that years ago as well.

One biggie though.
It has a gate in it that stops you selecting reverse unless the main shift is in neutral.

Not sure how you would do this with separate mechanisms.

Without that lockout, potential simultaneous forward/reverse selection would be very trick and spectacular.

Mine was on a saginaw, the aussie box may not allow this to happen, internally, but check it out.

Not wanting to hijack, Fatboy,  but i have a few related questions.
Does anyone here have a measurement of just how much a diff moves sideways?
So how far can you bring the wheels inwards before you need mini tubs?
Is there a tyre clearance regulation measurement?
Mine have about 70mm at the moment. I have 205/60/13s.
They just barely touch the outer guards now.
I  think i can fit 245/50/14s if i reduce the inner clearance to about 25-30 mm.
Mini tubs sounds like a lot of work to go to 265s.
Cheers

I was actually planning on keeping the original housing.
Just need to upgrade at least the wheel cylinders.
Thought maybe I'd go to a 10" drum, thats all.
Cheers

Hi All,
My car came fitted with HR discs but no booster and original fe rear end.
I need to upgrade the rears and put in a booster.
I was thinking about using hg rear setup.
I'm going to run 14" rear wheels anyway.
Even if i wanted standard hr rears ive got to get the bits from a wrecker, so no cost difference if i get hg instead.
It all looks like it will go together and same effort required either way.

Just wondering if anyone has any opinions or experience either way, particularly if my theory is wrong.

The Rod Shop one is about $1500, fibreglass shell, no paint, lights or shiny bits.
Theres another mob called STREET MACHINE FURNITURE in Newport Victoria, 0417 351 421.
He has 56 custa, 57 chev, xy gt, hq. All fibreglass. All around $2k finished.
I guess the $2k figure is the benchmark unless you can diy.
For Joe Average ( not a car resto type ) any kind of out-there couch is in that price bracket anyway.

Thanks for that Harko.

After I did a fair bit of research, my mate picked up a fabulous orange retro reco sofa from an upholsterer. Gotta love that.

I had seen your candy red one in an earlier post.
It looks awesome.
Dont know about your hairdressing gig but  the couch looks like you didnt go overboard. Very tasty.

Tony

Howdy,
a mate is keen to get a mid 50's car couch for his shop.
Does anyone have one for sale, in Melbourne or nearby.
I guess interstate freight would kill.
Or does anyone build them to order?
Heard  there was a Customline one in the Trading Post recently.
Any leads greatly appreciated.
thanks
Tony

Thanks Phil,
spoke to Colin there this morning.
Certainly knows his way around old holdens.
Told me he's been to vic club meeting to discuss issues sometime before i joined.
Thanks for the tip.

Tony

Hi guys,
can any Victorians out there recommend an engineer for rego purposes.
I live in Bentleigh and work in South Melbourne, so local would be fantastic if possible.
I'm still months off ready, but i need a plan now.
I'm tossing up between 179 & RB30 and would like to know if it makes any difference from the engineers view.
Thanks
Tony

Thanks for the replies.
I called METALSTRIP, thanks Geoff.
They said that a subframe is a bit large for their tanks.
They have done them in the past with a bit of stuffing around, but they're a bit busy for awkward jobs at the moment. I totally get their point.
They referred me to PAINT STRIPPING in Yellow Pages. Found a place in North Rd Murrembeena. Est $120 for dip and phosphate coating. Sounds good.
Just got to work out how to spray something into the box sections. The guy reckons the posphate is not much chop long term.
Any comments.

Tony

Hi guys,
does anyone have any photos of a CRS chassis kit.
Bare chassis before fitting, mounted to the car, how it fits to original floor etc.
Ive read a lot of posts, but still just cant visualise the whole thing.
Theres nothing on the CRS site, but thats probably understandable given the extent of possiblilities they offer.
Thanks
Tony
