Title: The Last Monaro and the last FE & FC
Post by: REDMR2RED on February 10, 2006, 03:01:18 AM
What is the last FE and the last FC to come off the assembly lines worth?

Check this out:

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4611976689

It reached the reserve of $105,000 in an hour,   :o  and with 9 days 22 hours to go who knows what it will bring.

Having a read through the "GoingGone" T&Cs it looks like a retraction will cost you $250.  Expensive game of silly buggers ::)

Well I'll be damned. THAT much for a Monaro (even if it is the last one)?? ::) ::) Looks like my dad has been right all along with his favourite saying .... "a fool and his money are soon parted".

Wonders shall never cease.

hmm if i had $250 to donate to charity, i'd bid it up to a cool Million!!

of course.. then I'd ruin my 100$ positive feedback rating.

wonder how much a one of a kind FE wagon fetches....

Cheers

Seems they got sick of the silly buggers and retracted a ton of bids, one for $6,000,000.00!  :o

Yeah, back down to a more realistic $152,000 ::) (still double the price of the second last one off the line...)  How about some of those retracted bids?  There's one in there for $15M !  That's equivalent to about 200-250 base-model Monaros.  You wouldn't need as much storage space though.

what was the total number of Monaros built?

and would it be more desirable to have the first or last?

Cheers

Ed

Around 45,000 built, but only about 12,500 sold domestically.  Apart from roughly 3,000 sold across NZ, UK and UAE, the rest were sold as Pontiac GTOs in the US.  Far more were produced LHD than RHD.

The first one is presumably "Marilyn", that stole the '98 Sydney Motor Show.  Can't see it coming up for sale any time soon - probably the same time as Efijy...

Having put up with one for 12 months, I'd say neither the first, last or any in the middle were particularly desirable.

Correct me if I'm wrong....but I thought Holdens stopped making Monaros some 30 years ago.

Must be stuck in a time warp.

If these bids are genuine, I wouldn;t give a stuff about warranty cards, I'd be asking for a Lifetime Guarantee from GM, that they WILL NOT EVER MAKE ANOTHER MONARO !

Thinking of the last Monaro... Who has the last of the FC's that we know of and who has the last of the FE's that we know of.
I think that Ken will have the numbers but who has the vehicles... Could be worth a fortune!!! ;D

Jason.

I guess that last FC could have FB colours or vynil inside

Dont HSV have the rights to buy "Pontiac GTO" bodies off Holden and sell them locally as a HSV coupe?
Surely that would put a dent in the "Last Monaro" Certificate, although they would be badged differently

 ???
Just looking at the VIN on the "Last Monaro" consisting of 17 letters and numbers, kind of makes you wonder what a car with 3 letters and 4 numbers would be worth,  FE217 S4 as an example.

I see FC Cool that you mentioned that the last FC may have had FB colors and trim? Well far from the last my FC Sedan August 59 has FB colors, Corona Grey and Artic white with red FB interior and 1960 Chevy headlining!!!! thats a bit different HEH!!! It will be at the Nationals at the island for the first time since adelaide in 1999.
Cant wait.

I never thought of that, do any other 50's chevs share a hoodlinning material like the FC, I probably would have spotted it by now but I might have a look next time I see a 54-56 chev.

If you think that the last monaro auction is ridiculous, ask yourself how much would somebody pay for this? -
(http://i1.tinypic.com/nleyv4.jpg)

Over $8K and the reserve has not been met ???

 :o :o :o :o :o :o :o WTF :o :o :o :o :o :o :o

thats a pretty expensive dog kennel cause i cant see it being used for anything else, but i'll bite is there anything special about this apart from looking like it was in the middle of a tin worm feeding frenzy :-/?

As far as I know there was no ceremony for either the last FE or FC and whilst I have some very late numbers for bothe models, there is no way of telling whether they are the last one.  They certainly were not FB colours or trims as Brett's car shows - his is a styling exercise from September 1959 and was made along with a short run of other FC's to test FB colours .  All the very last FE's and FC's that I have numbers from look just like all other FE's and FC's.  For instance I have the numbers of an FC registered on the 29th of Dec 1959 and it is obviously very close to the last, it may even be the last, but there is no way of knowing.  I also have the details of an FE which was registered just AFTER the release of the FC which is probably not really surprising as dealers tried to get rid of old stock.

Sorry, I should have pointed out is was a "Bathurst" Monaro. I would say people are bidding on the compliance plates more than anything else.

Well, well, well so the auction has FINALLY come to an end for the so-called 'last Monaro' with the winning bid at $187,600.00. ::) Christ Almighty, with that kind of money one could have scored themselves a true king of the muscle cars, something along the lines of a 1970 Dodge Charger Daytona or Plymouth Roadrunner Superbird (and yes, I mean a 426 Hemi-powered version), 1969 Ford Torino Talledega or a Shelby GT500 Mustang. Or to be patriotic, 2 HK GTS 327-powered Monaros, maybe 1 or 1/2 Phase 3 GTHO Falcons (yuck) :P or even better and more humble .... a garage full of restored FE's, FC's (and EH's for good measure). 8) 8)

Hope the (un)lucky final bidder chokes on his purchase if Holden decide to recreate yet ANOTHER Monaro in the near-future. ;D

Pete

Why?  Has it cost you money?  Affected the value of your investments?  There's really no need for the sour grapes.  Don't forget ALL the proceeds of this auction go to charity.

Whether or not you think it represents value for money is really neither here nor there.
