Title: seat surrounds
Post by: Jonno on October 13, 2005, 06:18:26 AM
Here are some photos of FE vs EK seat surround mounts, in response to this thread in 'Parts Wanted' (I thought it more appropriate now in this section):
http://www.fefcholden.org.au/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=pwntd;action=display;num=1128921577

I should start by saying that I 'think' my FE seat is an FE seat. I was a little confused by the fact it has a rear ashtray mount and I have a ute....but folks seem to think this in just a mass produced item. Anyway, as far as I can tell, the only difference between the two is that the EK seat is about 4cm lower in height and has slightly different mounts for the seat surrounds.

The front mounts are identical:

The rear corner mount is slightly different:

and the mounting point on the rear vertical is in a slightly different place:

All you would need to do to fit a metal EK surround to an FE/FC seat would be to grind off the tab 'A', fabricate a tab 'B', and then add an extra plate on the vertical to screw into. Here is the EK surround fitted:

hope this helps.

thanks Craig,

I should probably add that I haven't actually DONE this mod myself as I'm thinking about using the entire EK seat set-up. But I have looked at both fairly closely...and can't see any reason why it wouldn't work fine.

Thanks for the heads, up as I am fitting EK metal surround to the FC seat. Now I know to do the tab before it goes to the trimmers.

Cheers

Here's the project, from the tabs on my seat seems the metal surrounds are not as wide along the seat edge where the tabs are. Some have suggested removing or shortening these tabs and screwing into the frame at the back top edge.

and the back, which I imagine will be the one I will modify - have to more precisely check out the fit of the front tab to the metal surround in case both will need to be done.
