Title: 2006 Nats Torch Relay - TORCH's BIG DAY OUT
Post by: Kathy on July 19, 2005, 12:53:40 AM
Torch arrived in Canberra aboard flight FE 215 from Melbourne ready for his big journey around Australia.  This is Torch's first time away from his Mum, 48-215 and Dad  FJ.  Torch is being put up by GP & Kathy and has already made friends in their garage with EH George, EH Rex, HR Austin, FC Jean and of course SS Jeniii.  On Friday night he got to meet and make friends with their Canberra cousins, FE Roary, FC Marilyn, FJ Shaggin Waggin, HR Louie, EJ Shaggin Waggin, the Brindi Boys and their wild Turkey.  Torch also met the local constabulary (shhhhh, more on that story later) :-X.

Torch's weekend in the ACT was full of fun and frivolity visiting lots of the usual touristy sites such as, Old Parliament House, Fyshwick, the War Memorial, Fyshwick, a Ford Dealership (oops!…… :o more on that story later too), he even travelled to Goulburn stopping briefly to check out the Big Merino (but he forgot his gumboots and velcro gloves!!) and Crookwell to pay his respects to some of his deceased relatives now resting in peace on a cattle farm. :'(

Torch is staying home today to recuperate from his very busy weekend.  8) He's also going to download some of the photos he took so he can post them up on this site for all his extended family to see.  He is hoping to have his photos ready to post in the next day or so, so watch this space.  Oh, and please, Torch has asked that you don't tell Mum & Dad what he got up to in the dark hours…….. :-/

Stay tuned…... ;D

Hi Kevin

Torch told me all about the so-called swimming lesson you guys gave him.  He's "NOT HAPPY KEV" to say the least.  He'd like you to share the story with the rest of his family on the forum so everyone else knows what you did to him….

Kathy

Post by: Kathy on July 20, 2005, 12:11:01 AM
Hello Everyone

Torch has asked me to pass on his apologies for not being able to download all the photos he took over the weekend.  You see he had a really really big headache and stayed in bed for most of the day.  He says he knows what you're all thinking - "that it's probably a hangover",  8) - but he said "truly, honestly, it was a headache - please believe me"……hmmmm….. ::)

So, here's a couple of photos taken over the weekend with his friends from the ACT Club.  These photos were taken early on in the weekend, before Torch decided to sneak out the bedroom window and meet up with his new found mates for some Canberra action…. and that's when things turned sour….. (more on that story later)… :-X

From left, Julius, Baydon, Colt, Andrew R, Torch, Maddie,  and me standing in front of FC Marilyn.  This was taken at the Woden Food Van (our once a month Friday night haunt).

More photos to come.

Cheers
Kathy

Hi Cathy
The torch was set up, ???
There he was just minding his own 8) 8) 8), relaxing on the beach as can be seen on pic 10 of the Melbourne shots.
The beach is directly opposite the Continental Hotel at Cows, Phillip Island,

'Anyway as most people would know" surf beach waves are unpredictable and you can guess the rest.
Next thing Ken had to do the surf rescue routien on the torch.
Torch then had to under go a full resto, paint and decals

But truley Kathy it was not I who gave torch the swimming lesson.  :-X :-X :-X :-X

Here's Torch outside gp's work in Braddon.   As you all know, Braddon is the place to go on a Friday night leading up to Summernats if you want to check out the local cars.

Well, it is here that things turned sour with Torch.   :-/

We found Torch!!! :o

We had a call from the Victorian Police to say that Torch had been deported from the ACT due to his drunk and disorderly conduct.  The ACT didn't want that sort of riff raff causing havoc in the Territory.

Soooo, the ACT guys decided to jet off to Melbourne to pick him up, after all, we don't want everyone picking on us for losing the Torch....

After picking him up from the Police Station we decided to do some touring of the Melbourne area.

Not sure if you all remember, but this new ACT member (who closely resembles Tailshaft Tim), made an appearance at the karaoke night at the Jindabyne Nationals.  He is of scottish heritage, walked 500 miles, and goes by the name of Haggis McTailshaft.

Well, Haggis got hold of Torch and thought he might get in on the drink and downed a few at the Trivia night.....

Well, the ACT Club has finally managed to get Torch to spend his last days in the ACT visiting some of the top Canberra sites without managing to get into any more strife with the police.

Here's a few more photos with gp and Tailshaft Tim (that is definitely Tailshaft - not his elusive cousin Haggis)...

Here's the Official Handover of Torch from the ACT to the NSW Club at the NSW All Holden Day yesterday.  This is proof that the Torch wasn't lost and it is now in the hands of NSW.  And we even had the Police with us as witnesses.

Good luck........look forward to the photos of Torch in NSW.

Of course, Kathy's photo and description gild the lily somewhat.  Yes, NSW are now in possession of the torch, but the involvement of NSW finest was greater than she lets on.  Her photo shows the Torch (and Graham) after they were subdued.

Earlier images tell the real story....

[box width=420]

Graham and Torch are read their rights (which are very few)

Graham was deported back to Canberra that very afternoon.  The torch has been bailed on its own recognisance to appear before y'all shortly ;)

It has been a bit quiet on the Torch front, but hopefully that will soon be corrected.

The Torch came out to on our club run last weekend for the Shannons Eastern Creek Classic.  Here it is with a few of our members:

The NSW Club had an impromptu Torch Relay Run on the weekend just gone, with a small group of us hitting the Sydney sights and sites to get some photos of the Nats Torch.

[box width=100](http://tinypic.com/dpg19j.jpg)
As you can see, it was a beautiful day for a cruise
[/box]

[box width=100](http://tinypic.com/dpg1er.jpg)
We met at the Sydney Olympic precinct, home of the 2000 Olympics.  From front to back, we have Geoff & Margaret's "Gertie", RustyT's modified FE-217, Graham Fuller's stock FE, RET's FECOOL, and DickT's modified FC
[/box]

[box width=100](http://tinypic.com/dpg1mx.jpg)
Here's Geoff with the Torch.  That water-feature in the background is the Sydney Olympics Torch - picture Cathy Freeman standing in the middle of it.
[/box]

[box width=100](http://tinypic.com/dpg2z8.jpg)
We moved across the way to line up in front of one of the stadia.  Here's RET's daughter Rachael doing her bit.  Fortunately the photo is resized sufficiently to hide the scowl: Little Miss Five was not happy about this gig. :-[

[box width=100](http://tinypic.com/dpg0w1.jpg)

From here we headed into the City.  More pics to follow.

According to the schedule, Qld was supposed to send the torch on in the last week of November.

I know for a fact the torch arrived in Qld, has anybody up there actually seen it?
was any attempt made to photograph it with club members at club functions etc?
Vic committee have neither heard or seen anything of the elusive torch since it left NSW into mid North Coast and its subsequent journey into Qld.
Hopefully the good folk in SA will rectify when they get it

Ken

Gday Everyone,

Firstly i hope everyone had a good christmas!

Secondly, the torch has been sent to SA, I am not sure of the exact date, but I will confirm.

There were many photos taken whilst it's stay in Qld, this are apparently being passed on to RET. Unfortunately I never saw the torch, I was not aware it was here until it was gone again.

Hi all,
I have just been informed today that the torch has shown up in SA, it was sent on the 5th December by registered post, but only just arrived.  Only the torch himself really knows where he has been.  Maybe a xmas break at the Whitsundays, lying on the beach.

Well done guys - I especially like the shot at the Isle of Palms.  It appears everyone who was at the Christmas run saw the torch and had the opportunity to be in the photos.

Good stuff

Congrats on the photos - I'm very pleased to see a good contribution from the QLD guys and girls.

What an awesome collection of pics from NSW, Queensland and SA. :) To me, it reinforces the beauty of how strong the old (classic) Holden movement is and that it is here to stay, no matter what. I couldn't stop drooling at the sight of the SA club's two black FE's, looking at them only reinforced my long-term ambition to find me one of those!!! (naturally once I have replaced my 1-car garage with at least a 2-car garage) ;D

I know it's a long shot but does anyone have any records or recollection of how many factory black FE's were produced in total??

Cheers ...... Pete

What a great turn out to a January run - 14 cars AWESOME.
We want to see more photos with the torch :D

Congrats to the SA club - top effort - looks like the club is really going along well over there.

Regards  Ken

Pete - literally thousands of Black FE specials were made - they were the preferred car for all government departments - Sort of the like the company car of the fifties.

I have records of many black FE's but like company cars of today - they were not treated well and most have gone now.  Because of the "company car" tag, they were not really popular amongst private buyers either.

Torch was in Adelaide over Christmas and decided to throw a party for a few relatives and friends.  Unfortunately this upstanding Victorian citizen over-indulged somewhat, as the following pictures show.

Here is Torch with some of his guests - a few of South Australia's "leading lights":

During the gift-giving, Torch decided he was the "Christmas Angel" and climbed the tree.

As the night wore on and more booze was consumed, the party became a little untidy:

Eventually, Torch really disgraced himself and headed for the garden for a yodel.

But it was a hell of a good party and Torch and his mates really had a great time.

Elizabeth

Torch tries to get in through the main doors

before seeing the sign and realising that it's Saturday

As they are about to leave Elizabeth, Torch asked Hot Lips (Kathy ) to take a photo of him infront of the sign

But Torch had an ulterior motive and really wanted to leave his own flame-coloured tag on the sign, but it's too late when Kathy notices what he's doing and drags him away.

A Day At The Beach

On a beautiful summer morning (typical of Adelaide) Torch decided it would be fantastic to take a swim at the beach.

Ready to go for a swim

The ever-vigilant Torch sees a damsel in distress and rescues her, applying mouth-to-mouth resuscitation (I think)

LOOK OUT, TORCH - BEHIND YOU!!

In an instant, Torch whips around to see what everybody's shouting about:

Not to be intimidated by a cruddy little fish, torch ducks and eye-balls the shark

Seeing the fierce looking Torch, the shark turns and flees, chased by our hero

After all the excitement, Torch relaxes on the beach to tan up a bit (something he can't do in Victoria as he tells us the sun only shines for 5 minutes each summer).  Unfortunately he attracts a crowd of big-arsed groupies

my newest bestest mate Macca just before he went out and scored about 50 goals against the victorians. those footy playing tips I gave him came in really useful.......tying your opponents bootlaces together always works well.

The Big Trip South a couple of weeks ago...photos just come through...

Headed south from Bridgetown where I met up with Daggy (Chris).   Came to this sign, think we know which way to go!?

Yep, think I can see the ocean now...

Came across the Bibbulman Track...a walk trail between Perth and Albany...who'd want to walk when you can drive an FC?

Found Walpole, must've made the right turn....

Valley of the Giants???

Oh......giant trees....sheesh, they grow them big over here!!

Next stop Albany!!

Next stop was West Cape Howe, the most southern spot on the WA coast...apparently!

Then Daggy and Carrots took me to Albany where we saw the Harbour...

Then we went to a wind farm......say what!?

LOOK OUT DAGGY...IT'S COMIN AT US!!

WHEW.....that was close....

After that close call with the wind thingy, I was glad to get back to Bridgetown and check things out...

The local Holden Dealer...it's almost like being HOME!

I found a couple of cool cars and their owners in the main street...

They said to me, "We know where there's another one, lets go see it!"

Then we went up to the lookout to see the view from there...

Well, after the trip down south, I caught a lift back to the "big smoke"...

There's this place called King's Park, good views of the City of Perth....

Happy snaps....gotta love 'em...

Here's me comparing my flame to the "Eternal Flame" at the monument....who says size doesn't matter?  Anyway, a reflective moment, if you don't mind.....

There's this other monument on the hill as well, pretty impressive.

Oh, and by the way....here's why I don't like working in the city....those red lights aren't taillights, they're BRAKE LIGHTS...hahaha
